Very sorry to hear this. Hope she gets back on the horse that threw her but if not, that's her choice and either way, one I'm sure we support.
Heal fast and just remember, you can guilt Steve into or out of anything now for at least a year.

Very sorry to hear about this. Broken bones suck. Please pass along to Ahnna my wishes for a speedy recovery and return to riding. I can't make WisStoc but I hope to see her again at some future event.
As a side note, I've got about 20 of those Wisc. Rustic Roads documented (but not submitted yet) including several of the gravel ones. Yes, some of them are RUSTIC. Gravel on the curves is a very common occurence on Wisc. back roads, rustic or not, that's for sure.
Wow I'm really sorry to hear this bad/good news.
Bad because I can see it happening from your description; good because it sounds like she's already well on the way to recovery.
Ahnna is in my thoughts and prayers (you too Steve)....
My only comment on riding again: if Ahnna ever wants to ride again I would suggest lots and lots of parking lot/around town riding before getting out there on the open road.

Just wanted to add... Steve, I know you feel responsible but it's gravel... that stuff takes out the best riders and it's a tough thing to learn how to handle... the survival instinct of hitting the brakes, assuming that's what may have happened, is a tough one to overcome.

Hey Ahnaa and Steve,
It looks like you were able to take care of a bad situation without a lot of trouble but I can understand the pain from it. I'm really sorry to hear about the accident because I've been in the same situation with new riders behind me and wondering if they will negotiate hazards that I see.
That's one of the hard things to learn when riding is where to watch for hazards and be prepared before you get to them. There is so much gravel on the back roads of Wisconsin that it isn't even funny. It makes riding them always a challenge. You can never really enjoy the sweepers and twisties because you are always looking for gravel or worse yet sealcoat.
It is going to happen. There's no avoiding it. You will go down at some point. It's an unfortunate truth of riding. However experience and training will help minimize accidents and minimize the damage if it does happen. You can't let this shake you from continuing to ride but that is a decision that everyone has to make for themselves. I learned on dirt bikes because dirt hurts less than pavement but I didn't learn very quick so dirt was the better option.
I hope Steve is taking care of you and I hope to see you both this weekend for dinner. I'll be spending most of Saturday at the dealership in Richland Center, unfortunately, but I should be able to make dinner.
I'm glad to hear that you are recovering and getting up and around.
See you soon Glitter Britches :D

Unbelievable!:o4:
Ahnna, glad to hear that you are ok and sorry about the injuries! Slow speed and gravel!! YIKES! Not a good mix. Sounds like you are a motivated person and I'm glad to hear that you're not letting this get the best of you! Like Mellow said, hop back on that horse as soon as/if you feel safe to do so and the next time let Steve show you how it's done instead!
Actually I'd rather he not go down either. Been there, done that, not fun and I feel for you!!! You have my prayers for a quick recovery!!! At least the riding season is coming to a close and you won't miss a terrible amount of riding!!
My wife had been down on her bike much like you did. (maybe not quite as fast?) She is a go get-er, like you, and was determined not to let her spills get the best of her. Now she's a fairly accomplished rider and I'm very proud of her!! I'm sure that if you chose to keep riding, you too will become quite adept at it!!!:hat1:
Steve, keep up the spirits and I commend you on your support for your wife!!
(Silent prayer:bow1: )
Ahnna get well soon!! I hope you don't get grounded for crashing!!

Sorry to hear of the crash. Best wishes for a quick recovery.
Ahnna,
Sorry to hear about your accident. Glad to hear you got by with fairly minor injuries. I know it hurts! Hang in there and you will be back to chasing Steve around in no time! Until then... I guess you'll have to let him catch you.......

Steve, sorry to hear this. Ahnna, hope you recover to ride again. As Joe says even the most seasoned rider has a tough time with gravel in a curve. Get well and get back on the horse that threw ya!!!!!

1. take advantage of the opportunity to have steve do everything for a while!!!
2. learn whatever lessons necessary from this and get back on as quickly as possible.
3. don't doubt yourself as everyone reacts to the sudden sight of gravel with some degree of instinct. i did almost the exact same thing several years ago with similar results.
4. good luck and best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Ahnna,
The best thing that you could do, is to take out all your anger and
frustration on Steve!!!!! Throw things at him, pound him on the shoulder, etc.
It will make you feel a lot better..... :)
Just trying to help, Steve.....

Steve,
please tell Ahnaa I hope she recovers soon and glad she is in good spirits. Rich also did the rustic roads this weekend too. I will be in my van this weekend also with my daughter if Ahnaa would like to ride to dinner with me, she is more than welcome.

Ahnaa and Steve:
I'm hoping all resolves quickly and without any complications. My best to you both. Riding in gravel, regardless of the machine (including 4wd), is always iffy. I'm glad to hear that the injuries were no worse. Take care of your selves.
All the best,
Bob

Ahnna,
Sorry to hear of the accident and like everyone else, I hope you recover quickly. My wife is also very athletic and has a lot of spunk. She'd be PO she took a tumble more than anything.
Steve, please keep us posted on Ahnna's progress. In the mean time, we'll keep her in our prayers.

Ahnna,
So sorry to hear of your "mishap." Heal quickly and strong.
The very first ride for me this year was to Jacksonville, FL in March for the IBA dinner. Successful 2500 miles trip until I hit the gravel less than 150' from my house on the way back. Tigress still has the scratches on the left saddlebag for that one.

... and I was there :( . Broken ankle, broken wrist, some road rash, lots of aches and pains, pretty scratched up 2007 Ninja 250. Thankfully she's hopping around and in good spirits. She still plans on going to WISTOC dinner on Saturday w/ me, but by car. Jury's out on whether she wants to ride again. Here's what happened....
Wow and Youch! Sorry to hear this Ahnna and Steve. I met Ahnna at the last MoonSToc event. I didn't know she'd taken up riding, but regret to hear this. Hopefully, it won't deter here from riding all together, but that would be better than trying to ride and being afraid IMO. Rest up and heal quick Ahnna. Hope to see you guys again at MoonSToc and perhaps the next BamaSToc sometime in the future.

Jeeze.
1st and foremost. Seriously glad that Ahanna isn't hurt worse than she is, and that she is healing well and fast!
I don't guess she needs to hear anymore gravel get off stories, except to know that it can happen to any and all...and she shouldn't feel badly about getting it:)
Prayers and meditations, for certain

I am glad that you got Ahnna talking to us about why we wear gear at Moonshine! It paid off some but obviously not enough!
I hope she feels better soon and if you get a chance to get her to read these,
Ahnna,
We all have been there or will be there someday. It hurts like hell for a little while and then you just get better one day....then you start thinking about riding and you go on, just a little more wiser than before.
Woulda, Coulda and Shoulda will be with you for a while, heal fast, get better, se ya at Moonshine next year on your own bike.

Don't tell Steve this, but I think she's a little tougher than him. He'd be milking it. lol IN all seriousness, I give credit to anyone who digs snow out from in front of the garage so he can go on a ride. :bow1: Again, heal fast, and I second the milking it for all it's worth Ahnna.

WOW!! Just settled in for the evening after packing for the WiSTOC trip and found this tread!
Sure am sorry about your get off Ahnna. Gravel and motorcycle mix like oil and water.
No amount of experience can save you all the time. Heal well and chalk up one for experience.

Glad ya'll are still going to WiSTOC, cage or not! We'll see ya there.

Sorry about your mishap. Glad to hear you are still making it on Saturday. It will be a good time.
For those making it to WiSTOC, bring warm clothes and good stories for the campfire. We will be all ears.
Heal fast and get back on. Many years ago I went down on a left hander, no appearant reason, just had the front end wash out. I still like right turns better.
See you and Steve on Saturday.
