Anyone have any experience installing LED replacements for the original brake lights? Just looking through the lens, it doesn't look like the stock bulbs have a standard base so I'm curious what the bulb number is as well as how much bang for the buck I'd get by replacing with an LED cluster.

We compared LED lights to our stock bulbs on our work bikes (Road Kings) and the LED's did not put out the light that the stock bulbs did so we did not switch. LED's seem to be more directional also.

Just my 2 cents.

Yeah I tried it. I'm not even gonna waste my time gettin ya the numbers cause it's not worth doin it. The bulb itself is bright. The problem is that when lit all the light is directed straight out in one direction. On an incandescent bulb the light radiates in all directions. The housing that the bulb is in then reflects all of the light out the rear in effect lighting up the whole lens. With the led, that just does not happen. The only light you see from the rear is this little dot (2 of them). My wife was behind me one day after I put the LED's in and she almost hit me. She couldn't even tell that my brake lights were on. I thought she was nuts so I looked at it and she was right. Very unsafe! In my opinion you would be better off mount auxiliary led brake lights like the hyperlites to add to the rear lighting instead of making the situation worse.

Thanks for the insights. Makes the decision to add just the hyperlites a little easier.
