Is there an internet site that I can navigate to find details on an accident that happened sometime last night?
I just found out a friend of mine was killed and I wanted to find out what happened....
The accident happened sometime last night or early this morning on his way home from work in LA.
:(
Thanks,
<D>

I find the best way is to google the newspapers in the area and then go to their site and try and find the story..usually smaller papers carry the stories and these days most papers put all their news online..
just google for instance...MODESTO NEWSPAPERS..
Sorry to hear about the accident..be safe..

Thanks for the thoughts Raven and Geoff, Mashal, et al.
Yeah, it sucks. I worked with this guy for 3 years and he was about the nicest, kindest person you could know.
I work in IT and as some of you know, most of the maintenance an IT deparment does is after hours and around production schedules - IE: Weird hours!
I would always need other people in other departments (Programmers, etc) to verify that the work we performed didn't break other parts of the production network.
Anyway, my buddy Scott would *always* volunteer to be the "test guy". He would sit around all hours of the night essentially "waiting" for us to be done, just so he could perform a few simple tests to verify everything....
Such a cool guy.
We spent some social time (clubs, music, etc) out side of work also. He never drank, did drugs, etc and always volunteered to be the designated driver...
I have a fond memory of him following a group of us (on motorcycles) in his new mini cooper. It was a great day.
Here is a link to a few pics of our group that day off of Sunrise Highway. Scott's the guy in plain clothes, on the left in the first pic...

Anyway, my crew and I were pretty floored when we got the news today.

Dan..this is really ironic....for thirty years all my boats were named
HALCYON..
in reality it means a seabird that can land on the water and make the water calm no matter how rough it is..
hope you find your articles......Geoff

Sorry to hear about your friend. Unfortunately there is not main internet site you could check to get official information. The previous suggestion about googling with keywords including the city it happened in and the date is a good one. Also check websites for the local newspapers. I sometimes get information that way as well. The official information on what happened, i.e. police report, can be obtained but it can take anywhere from a couple of weeks to a couple of months or more depending on whether there is a criminal case to go forward from there.
If I can be of any help, let me know.
Ride safe,

Ride safe,
Thanks Jim. I really appreciate the offer.
It's more curiosity than anything. I was just wondering "what really happened".
Gonna wait for the official announcement to circulate and see if it contains that info. Otherwise, I'll go dig.
Thanks again for the offer.

Dan, that sux!.. very sorry to hear it... Life isn't very fair sometimes..
I'm not good with words when it comes to this kinda stuff, so just know our hearts go out to you as he sounded like someone we'd all enjoy meeting and calling a friend.

Damn, that's harsh. Godspeed Scott.
You might just try calling the CHP if it happened on a freeway or highway. Surface streets will be covered by the local police or county sheriff.
