A few years ago, I started leasing a server at a data center and split the expenses with a couple of other people. One of the founding members has decided to pack it in, and I'm looking for someone to replace him. (Multiple someones would be cool, too, because it reduces everyone's monthly cost.)

The system is housed in a data center in Miami, has redundant power and network, a nice fat pipe to the outside world and a pretty large usage quota. (I think we've bumped 7 or 8% of it on our busiest month to date, and I pull a lot of data through it.) It's a dedicated server, which means we only share it among ourselves, can do pretty much anything we want with it and have nobody to answer to but each other.

Members of this co-op must...

Be willing to split the expenses evenly with the other members every month.
Have a solid knowledge of some flavor of Unix. (The server runs Fedora Core.)
Be someone who can be trusted with root access.
Be willing to chip in and help with the administrative tasks, which these days are minimal.

PM or email if you'd like more specifics or are interested in joining in.

Emacs - Bah Vi rules :) . How much? I could be interested. What apps are on the box now?

My res (http://tdeboese.freeshell.org/resume)

I'm currently running, Ubuntu on my workstation - with beryl ( beryl/compiz is so cool.).

Thanks,

Tom

Emacs - the editor that thinks it's an OS. The single app responsible for the abomination of ^H changing to ^? because the dipsticks who wrote it wanted to use that for Help.

That's nothing a good dose of (global-set-key "\C-h" 'delete-backward-char) will solve the problem. How do you do that in vi again? :)

not sure how it is these days, but waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy waaaaaaaaaaaaay back, vi was mandatory in certain run levels of most flavors of unix. admittedly, i never gave emacs an opportunity to change my mind. once one obtains a cursory knowledge of vi (which only takes a few minutes), no other simple editor is warranted. i wouldn't use it to manage code/projects, but for simple edits it's still the right thing to do.

i wish i could take you up on your offer. i'm still waiting on the server i built eons ago to die, but it's still purring along without so much as a hiccup. probably shouldn't have said that, but then i just bought a hot spare for a 5th of the cost to build the original.

DAMHIK: Don't use rm -irf in any berzerkley based OS (*all* the linux are btw)...
In AT&T based it is an interrogative based rm.
In berzerkley they figured that if you said 'f' you really meant 'f'... even though there are situations when the 'i' was useful...
