Does anyone know of a loud horn to replace the stock horn that just goes where the stock horn goes with no relays or any other complications? Just looking for a one for one replacement.
Anything louder is going to require more current. More current means running a larger set of power wires and a relay. It's really not very difficult and well worth the effort.
Many are using the Stebel horn. It's almost as loud as a set of dual trumpet air horns. There is easily room for either in the same general location as the stock horn.

I don't think you'll get very loud without at least putting in two horns and a relay. Louder means more power and the stock wiring is barely enough to power the little beep-beep horns that come with the bike. I have dual Stebel Magnums mounted in the stock horn location with a relay. They produce about 129 db (same as the Stebel compact air horn) and have the advantage of fitting (barely) in the stock location. However, the stock wiring made them sound sick.

As said above, there just isn't enough juice in the stock horn wiring set up to power anything loud.
It's really not difficult to wire up a relay with a real horn. I'm using the Nautilus Compact and am very pleased with it.

The steble magnums are less then half the cost of the compact air horn so I think I'll give them a try. What kind of relay do I need?
There are many threads about installing the Stebel inside the tupperware. One of the threads had photos of the installation and the wiring. I am no electrical engineer by any stretch of the imagination, but I installed my Stebel in May after following the directions on one of the threads. You MUST use the correct gauge wire and a relay or you will toast your horn button.
The member who had the great directions was Dano.

I'm going to get the relay kit from Eastern Beaver 39.95 + 5.00 for shipping and unless I can find them cheaper the Stebel TM80/2 Magnum Twin Horns from Horns Plus for 18.95 + 7.50 shipping

For longer term reliability, go for a reputable brand name 40 amp relay, rather than the 30 that many kits come with.
You can go smaller, but I like using a fused 10 AWG wire for the battery feed with high current draw items like these. I do know others who have no problems with 12 or even 14 AWG in similar applications.
Mount the relay up high, away from any water spray paths, or alternatively, go for the more expensive marine grade relay. (I just use quality auto relays and mount them out of harms way - works well)

Ok I wasn't gonna jump in here but no one has warned you...If you get the STebel Horn DO NOT use their relay that comes with the horn...it is a P.O.S.It is cheap and it is not sealed to prevent water from seeping in.There is a thread all abt the problems ppl here(ST-Owners.com) have had.Read the thread...if you cant find it do a search for it...once you read this..it will open your eyes! ++1 on the Eastern Beaver Relay and wiring harness.

I bought the PIAA horn from CycleGadgets.
No relay. Just bolts in.
It's a lot louder than stock but I don't know if it is as loud as the Strebel.

Having to run extra wires for BIG power to the relay and horn are a minor pain, but you will be pleased with the final result.
I have had very good luck with the Stebel compact and included relay.

Did you take the stock horn off or just leave it and use the wires from it to go to the PIAA horn? Did you mount the new horn near the old one and if so where was the location?

It's a bolt-in replacement for the stock horn.
I did cut a slot in interior cowl to allow more sound to get out.

It looks to be a bit quieter than the Stebel, and one guy on another forum used the PIAA horn with a relay. I kinda like the simplicty of using it without anything else except to just bolt on. I may give it a try since the cost of the Stebel and then a wiring harness gets up to about $80 or so. I've gone through about 3-4 stebels since two of them either quit working on my V-Strom and a part of one horn fell off. I like the stebel when it works right but not crazy about the reliability of them.

I"m installing the Stebel Magnums not the airhorn. They were under $20 for a pair high/low and are just as loud as the air horn 139db. You could use one of the magnums and not need the wireing harness. I got them from http://www.hornsplusauto.com and I think the single horn is $12 and is 136db

I love the sound of the OEM horns on my WING. So much so that I had a set installed on the VTX1300. They really make a nice sounds. Almost like Honda cager horns.
They may be a bit more pricey than some other alternatives, but they are HONDA and will last virtually forever. I think we used some sort of relay, but can't remember ... Cyclegadgets?
Anyone hook up cager horns (from a recycling yad) or OEM WING horns on the ST?

Hey Bagger,
I know what you mean about the stock OEM wing horns. Would love a set on my ST1300. Here in New Jersey it is not legal to use air horns in residential neighborhoods so if you wire up an air horn such as the stebel, you need a way to blow the original horn seperately at least for inspection. Otherwise you'd fail inspection, possibly get a ticket on the road.
I second your question about hooking up a set of OEM GL1800 wing horns. Anybody do it? By chance would they just plug in?

Early in '07 I got the relay kit (dual horn)from Eastern Beaver too, and installed
TWO Fiamm Hwy Blasters on my Vulcan750 cruiser.
I tied into the OEM horn button. Now I have 4 horns sounding.
