September 2007
Member Of The Month.

From Biran himself:

Firstly, I'd like to say thanks for being chosen ST-Owners MOTM. I love this site and spend very many hours browsing it's forums and PM'ing with friends I have made here. Probably too many hours.

I started riding when I was 8 or 9 years old. My twin brother Bruce and I shared a dirt bike that my parents bought for us. It was a Honda XR75. I loved that bike. At the time you could ride in the Connecticut State Forests. So when the family went camping we always took the bikes. I say bikes because my dad had a Honda XL125 and my grandfather had a Kawi 80 and a Kawi 250. Bruce and I would alternate between the Kawi 80 and XR75 so we both had rides. Eventually Bruce and I outgrew the XR75 and took over dad's XL125.

In 1983 my parents and grandparents rented a seasonal site at a private campground and so our riding days on the dirt bikes were over. Bikes got sold and then the girls came along to take up our time. This is where I met my first wife. We eventually got married in 1988 and had a little girl in 1990. Then divorced in 1991. I still don't know what happened, but she just walked out on us when my daughter was 6 months old and we've been on our own since.

Rewind back to winter 1984/1985. My parents and grandparents got tired of camping under someone else's rules so they bought their own! Water's Edge Campground. It's now the home to CT-STOC each September. If you've never been to CT-STOC you should try to make it one of these years. We have great time around the campfire with great friends and get to ride some great miles through CT.

In 1992 We had a seasonal camper at the campground who was selling his 1984 Yamaha Seca750. I decided I wanted to ride again so I bought it and got my MC License. I rode that bike for a couple years, when I could get my mom to babysit for me. Well, not me, my daughter(who's now 17)!!! It was hard finding the time to ride though and after about 2 years that bike got sold with only a few thousand of my miles on it.

In 1995 I decided to try again. I wanted something larger so I bought a 1988 CBR1000F Hurricane. I loved that bike. The ST really reminds me of that bike in many ways. Size, weight and power were very similar to my current ST1300. I always said that bike rides like a Cadillac. So does this one. After putting about 4000 miles on that bike in 2 years(I know!) I crashed it. I was on a transition ramp from one interstate to another and took it a little too fast. I hit the sand on the left side of the lane and then hit the guardrail. I wasn't hurt too bad. Knocked me out for a minute but...ATGATT! Even with the helmet on I popped my right eardrum and bruised my right rotator cuff. I still have limited motion on my right shoulder today. Anyway, I rebuilt the bike using junkyard parts. $1900 worth! Considering I only paid $4600 for the bike it was a hit. I sold the bike after about 6 months of riding again. I needed money to completely rebuild a house I just bought early in 1997. I didn't want to sell it, but I had priorities to live by.

Fast forward to January 2003. I just got married to my second wife after dating for 2 years and she knew I wanted a bike. She told me to start looking for one. I decided on a ST1100 and started looking for one. I couldn't find one to look at, but a few dealers in the area had a NEW ST1300 on the floor and I fell in love with it. I brought my wife in to see it and she gave me the OK to buy it. The rest is history. I no longer have the wife, but I still have the bike!!!

http://www.st-owners.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=22898&d=1190037603

n Feb.2005 I put my first long distance miles on the bike taking it to our timeshare vacation in Fort Lauderdale, FL. and then to Eastoc in NC in June of 2005. Once my wife and I separated in August of 2005, I decided to ride my mind away. I put 18,000 miles on the bike in 2006 riding to Texas, North Carolina again and most recently FL-STOC and I hope to put many more miles on it this fall.

And now this past May I decided that I wanted a second bike. One that would serve a completely different purpose that the ST. I wanted something that I could use for short rides around CT and get a little wind in my face during the summer months. Something that I wouldn't spend a fortune on but still looks great. The bike a chose is a 2006 Hyosung GV650.

So that's it. That's all I got. Thanks for listening..... er reading.

Brian is the reason I am on an ST.

Since I purchased the ST a couple of years ago we have become good friends..

We shared 2 magnificent trips south last November and December..Deal's Gap, etc and FloridaSTOC 1.. They are great memories and awesome times.

Brian is an awesome friend and is always there for me. He was a saviour in my house move.
Just to show you what a great guys he is, He moved his Motorcycles outside and gave his garage up to have his trailer packed with my house goods be inside for 2 months.

I only wish he can get out more with us in the summer to more events but business comes before pleasure I guess.

He is a terrific member here and a good friend.

Congratulations my brother you deserve it.

I am happy and proud you are my friend.:bow1: :03biker:

Well Done Brian.
I'm honored to know you.

I'm sure you will still make the traditional Dec 1 rendezvous with the CT group.

We won't tell anyone where, or they might impeach you, but please take comfort in knowing that I have, at long last, forgiven you for telling that stripper that I was your father............................................ ....

Congratulations Brian. You deserve it for your commitment to this site and the CT-STOC event, as well as the campground. If it weren't for the site, the campground, you and your partner in crime Todd, then I wouldn't be here either.
And I agree with STeve, let's raise a toast to Brian, AND get Brian toasted. It's a tough job, but somebody has to do it.

Congrats Brian.

We first met at the FLSTOC (or CrocSTOC, depending on who you ask). Brian was one of a group of 10 that showed up to ride the Ocala National Forest - a great ride and story too.

I always thought it was cool to have a member who owned a campground. Learning even more about Brian makes knowing him even more pleasant. I'm looking forward to seeing him at the FLSTOC in November.

Doug-STer,
now you must return the favor and make it up to CT. I am hoping to get down to FL stoc again with Brian this year.

With all that movin fur and snow on the horizon, until I get my Gerbing gear it may be a while.

On the other hand there are 3 tropical depressions forming out there in the Atlantic and since the last time a hurricane hit New England was 1930, it might be a good move. ;)

When does the campground close?

Looking forward to meeting you folks again. And this time, I've actually booked a room so no repeat of that 950 mile day. :D

Very well deserved!!! I met Brian at last year's hastily thrown together first annual FL-STOC held the weekend before Christmas. He and Kempo rode all the way down from CT. He is a really friendly guy and eagerly answered questions about his ST, farkles and that neat little trailer he was pulling.

Congratulatons, Brian. I'm looking forward to seeing you at this year's FL-STOC.
