My wife recently, was in DC visiting our Daughter. On her return flight, while waiting at Reagan Airport, to board her rplane , they announced the flight would be delayed 30 minutes for security reasons.

Sure enough, about 30 minutes later, a gentleman appears at the gate. (Which was the reason for the security delay)

Janet recognized his face immediately.

She approached him and said "Excuse me, but were you ever in the military?" (only my wife would approach a stranger and ask this kind of question)

He looked at her and responded, "Yes, but I am retired now"

At that moment my wife took his hand proceeded to tell him what an honor it was to meet him, and how proud she and the rest of the country were for his service to our country.

By the time she finished, this gentleman had tears in his eyes, and he simply replied in a very soft voice "Thank You". Upon seeing his reaction, my wife teared up as well, and she started down the ramp toward her seat.

SO WHO WAS THIS PERSON !

The person she spoke to was Retired General Richard Myers who was, (as I expect most of you recognize) Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff
(the US military's highest ranking officer).

I think it is amazing that a person, who undeniably was one of the most powerful men in the world, can be brought to tears by a few simple words. It is the little things like this that reinforce what a magnificent country we live in.

This occurred last Sunday morning.

Excellent story. Your wife should be commended for approaching General Myers, thanking him for his service to our country, etc. I would say that you have a jewell of a wife and a true patriot as well.:bow1:

Hey Stumpy!
I was just thinking about you..Wondering how you were doing...
Glad to hear you only have 3 left!

When I finished Chemo, I was 14 years old, 77 pounds. 30 days later I was 103 pounds. That was a long time ago, but I suspect you will feel 100% better once all the chemo is done.

Best wishes to you!
(sorry to hijack the thread!) :)

Good for her and thanks for sharing. We too often forget that simple acts like this when they come from the heart regularly have a very profound affect on others.
