Click here to Attend (http://www.st-owners.com/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=154&day=2008-9-11&c=1)

Plans are starting to be formed for WiSTOC 2. It will be held the second weekend in September 2008. Starting on Thursday the 11th and wrapping up on Sunday the 14th. We will be staying at the same motel as this year - the Spring Green Motel. Many suggested a Thursday start and we listened. Rich and I will again plan some routes for Friday and Saturday. One thought was to set up a route to ride some of the designated Rustic Roads. Not enough to get 10, but a good taste. Another plan is to have a cookout at the motel on Friday night.

Saturday night will be a sit down dinner like this year. For those that attended I would like to get an idea if you would like to eat again at Arthur's or should I find an alternate spot. We will cover this in better detail next summer, just looking for feedback from this year.

Rich and his family and myself enjoyed putting on this event this year and hope we have more attend. At least 27 different riders or members showed up this year. Not bad for a first time event by two rookies.

More to be added as feedback is received.

Kevin

Tentative Schedule of Events:

Thursday arrival for those who want.

Friday rides will be up to those who make it early. May route a nice easy one if enough people want.

Friday night will be a cookout at the Motel. There will be a donation can to help defray the costs of the food we will be eating.

Saturday will have 2 or 3 routes to take. Rich will lead one and I another one. Will try to talk someone (Curt :>) into leading a spirited route.

Saturday night a sit down meal - at The Shed. It is a casual place offering Pizza, sandwiches and they have a banquet room. For those that want you can always pick up some food and have a second cookout at the motel..

Stopped at The Shed and the banquet is reserved already. They can put tables together for around 20 people sit as a group. I am thinking that once you get that many together you can not talk to the people at each end anyway. I will post to get some input as September is fast approaching. Input received - we will take what is available and be in smaller groups. I will set up reservations for 6:30 and make a guess as to how many.

WI STOC 2

I ran into the motel owners and was able to get the 2008 rates.
They are holding to the same rates as 2007 for us.
Great people to deal with.
In the spring I will contact them and reserve some rooms for us.

I stopped and am holding 4 Single rooms, 5 Doubles and 1 Triple.
These are reserved for Thursday through Saturday night.
Please make sure you tell them that you are with ST-Owners.

1 bed 55
2 beds $79
3 beds $85

The above rates are for the room, no matter how many you squeeze into it. Camping will be around $7.00 a night. They have a shower room for the tenters. If enough people tent they will set aside a room for them to use. We had 3 tenters at the 2007 event and they found the grass to be of the highest quality around  . Plenty of room for more.

The ride we took was FANTASTIC, great twisties and scenery and the latter part was my favorite :D . I have heard of group rides breaking into seperate groups based on how spirited folks like to ride. Just something to think about maybe.

I vote for a different sit down restaurant next year if possible pretty please. But I will go wherever y'all decide.

I can only hop KC BBQ STOC goes as well as WISTOC did. It is our first time too (be gentle), but I didnt help. I think you guys and gals did GREAT!

Sue - Thanks for the suggestion of different "levels" of rides. Maybe I can recruit Curt into leading the spirited ride. I know it is way too far off for a commitment, but planting a seed may help.

I will look into other restaurants and throw out those places for a group "vote".

We have 51 weeks to go and the wheels are already turning.

I was really bummed when I had to miss WisSTOC (1) so I've already put this on the '08 calendar. Looking forward to it.

I'll probably camp (partly 'cause I'll procrastinate until all motel rooms are taken and partly 'cause I'm cheap). What does NO FEE "This one is private! - NO FEE!http://www.bobsriverside.com/camping.htm" mean? The website says $21/night for tent camping. I'd call that overpriced unless they're serving a full breakfast

I like the Friday night cookout idea. Actually I was one of those who stayed at the fire and wolfed down Rich's fabulous chili (sorry if it was really the SO who did all the work.) I just couldn't see riding 11 miles to the gathering spot that night and not being able to drink a few beers. ;)

I'm going to also bring up a few route options that have already been perfected by riders who know that area well (hint, no gravel). :D

Viggo It was meant that there was no State Park Pass needed. Camping at the motel is basically pick a grassy spot and set the stakes. MotoMac was one of the campers this year. HawkeyST also camped. If you need any more info you can PM me and I will get back to you or any one else wanting more information.

ya can't ride WI WIthout gravel. Even the paved roads have it. Those double-wide duelies can't make it around the corner without dropping a wheel of the edge and kicking up the dirt. :D

Gotta figure a way to make this one. So far for 2008, DesertSTOC, Moonshine, CampSTOC, WeSTOC, 666STOC. Prolly a couple others I'm forgetting right now. I did the first six(?) TWISTAR's (The Wisconsin Sport Touring Association Rendezvous) for HSTA from the Spring Green Motel. Great folks there. That event has since moved to other environs. Anyone even close ought'a plan to do this one. I'll make it if I can.

Paul - in response to a change in weekends. It is unfortunate that they (INDY) scheduled their event on the same weekend as WiSTOC. Rich and I briefly talked this over and no matter which weekend that we try to have it, some one will not be able to make it. The intent is to hold WiSTOC the second weekend in September till no one shows up. It is neat to see people posting again.

George - Hope you can make it in September. The folks at the motel remember you well. You were a great help in 2006's event on using them for our home motel. It went so well with them.

Lets hope for an early spring so I can route a nice ride for those in attendance. Rich will also be doing a route or two so there will be a few chances to get together and do some scouting this summer if anyone is interested.

Come on warm weather.

I'd even volunteer to zip over to Sheboygan and bring back about 20-lb. from Miesfeldt's to grill over charcoal Fri. night, along with the beer-butter-onions sauce to simmer them in. I'm speaking from experience here--helped the Sheboygan jaycees fry up 13 tons of sausages one Saturday in August many years ago.

BTW, I'm now "permanently" in Muskegon, MI, so I guess I have to change my handle...no longer in Hurricane, WV. So those of you in WI that want to come across the pond, I'm not far from the Lake Express (http://www.lakeexpress.com/) Muskegon, MI terminal if you want a place to camp or stay on a journey.

Kevin and all,

First, Kevin, thanks for putting this together. While it probably won't get as big as WeSToc, that area is great for riding. I got my first bike while at the UW and I've ridden all the roads within that region, many, many times. I haven't been there since, oh, maybe 25 years ago when I left Wisconsin for a better job.

I will be attending and have a 1 bed room reserved. See ya in September.

Lastly, for those taking the tour around Devil's Lake and Merrimac Ferry, be sure to spend a little time at a place called Parfrey's Glen. It's 2.1 miles east of the intersection of Hwy 113 and County DL. If you take the ferry north across the Wisconsin River, it's on your way to Devil's Lake by way of Bluff Road. Wi DNR has a web link for it, http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/org/land/er/sna/sna1.htm

The hike to the head of the glen is short and well worth the time.

Ride Safe,

The rides tend to keep all riders in mind so "spirited" might not be in order but I do tend to try and stretch it out in places where people want to let loose a little. However I still give time for the leisurely riders to catch up at their own pace.

We all ride a little different so I like to keep that in mind so no one feels pressured and everyone can enjoy the ride.

Dave. Thanks for the offer. When I first posted for WiSTOC2 I asked for suggestions based on last years event. Brighteyedsue suggested maybe different routes base on riding styles.

Right now I am working on a long loop of about 300 miles for those that want to do this. I rode the first half a week ago and need to find roads that are less traveled and with character. These tend to be a little less aggressive due to the type of roads I am looking for.

Right now it is headed NW including Wildcat Mountain and points west and south of there. I have work to do on this route and it seems like it might take some doing to get it fine tuned.

Rich will be doing the short route this year and I have not contacted him about any ideas he might have. I am sure we will discuss this at the RTE next weekend in Richland Center.

Any one wanting to scout routes and give suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hope to see some of you next weekend at the RTE.

Glenn I hope you do make it, friday is the cookout, but I have no problem with burgers all weekend really don't matter to me, whatever kevin decides for Sat is fine with us. We are just going with the flow....

Hmm,, I think they have plenty of seating Kevin,, just unsure about the quality of the burger now. Maybe Rich could roll on down for a sample?

Kevin,

I want to camp. Where is the largest crowds going to be?

Dave

Best location to be near the after hours festivities will be the motel. The grassy area is behind the new addition to the motel so you are a little protected from the highway. It can be windy any place you camp out in the open like the motel is. Regardless of the campsite, if it gets cold it gets cold. At least the area is FLAT and grassy. If I were camping this weekend I would do it at the motel. Ear plugs and you will think you are in the sticks.

+1 on the camping at the motel. If I were going to camp for this event it would be behind the motel. I did it last year and it wasn't too bad. The wind made it a little rough setting up, but once I got a stake in my ground cloth, everything went ok.

OK attendees - I am trying to finalize the Saturday Night dinner. There is a restaurant in "down town" Spring Green called The Shed. For those that were here last year it is kind of like Rookies as far as the menu selections go with just one room of tables.

Menu attached :eat2:

33462

33463

There is the minor problem though, the banquet room is reserved already. They do take reservations so we can have tables set aside for our group. They can put tables together for around 20 people to sit as a group. I am thinking that once you get that many together you can not talk to the people at each end anyway. If the weather is good they have outside seating also. They can seat over 50 inside if we were the only ones there. I went mid week and they had plenty of room, but we are doing this on a Saturday.

Any comments from the attendees will be appreciated.

Thanks for your help, Kevin

Hey Kevin,

TIA

Rich

Rich and all not yet registered. I will be contacting the motel after I get back from my trip :D to Colorado on Thursday and the following week. I will then find out how many rooms are already being held and how many are still available. I will give them time to fill their rooms if we do not have the ones we are holding taken. I am thinking that August 15th will be a good date to release the rooms not taken. Last year even though they did not have rooms to stay in there were last minute cancellations. If you are camping then there is NO need to hold a site as it is group camping and we will not fill the spacious yard anytime soon. One other option is to ask for on this thread to room share. I have room for one body but earplugs will be needed by that person. I offered to share the extra bed already and once I get a nay or yea I will post if I really do have space for one.

More details to be filled in later.

I'm thinkin this will be a fine place to dine sat. night. there will be so much socializing at the motel, we don't all need to be sittin on top of each other at dinner do we??? if we all have to sit in differant spots, oh well so be it, we will just be in small dinner groups instead of one big massive blog .

NOTICE.

I stopped at the Spring Green Motel and the rooms that are reserved for ST-Owners, will be ending September 1st. After that you will be at a small risk of not getting a room. A few last year got one the last minute due to cancellations. There are still several rooms available to stay in. Come on now and get your rooms so we can top last years attendance.

1 month to go.

I took advantage of the great weather today and did a pre ride of part of the route. A few spots of gravel due to the early summer floods. Have one county road that would be GREAT, but gravel in almost every corner :( I will evaluate that section for an alternate route. It was that way in early June and I was hoping the summer rains would wash it away. I would rather run a state highway than crawl around those corners.

See some of you in Anamosa next weekend

Just a thought, my opinion, the social part of the gathering is better than a sit down dinner, brats, burgers, and hot dogs or bring your own steaks to grill along with some chili or bbq. would be fine. nothing better than beer brats on a grill. :biker:

Danny, the Saturday night dinner will be VERY casual. It will be at The Shed. Seeing how we are all friends and have our own minds (some even can think) where you eat or what you eat is always up to each off us. I am sure others may want to hit the local grocery and join anyone that would rather stay back and eat light, heavy and toss a few down. In fact a cookout for Saturday night that is "eat what you bring" is now an unofficial event. Let the games begin.

Funny, real funny Sally.

2 weeks to go and for those that do not have a room reserved - MONDAY is when the ones being held for the ST-Owners will be released for others to take. Do not wait.

I have a very nice 280 mile loop from Spring Green to Wildcat Mountain down and along the Wisconsin River over to the Mississippi and south to Potosi and then back to Spring Green set up for Saturday's ride. Can you say plenty of twisties and enough straights to set back and either relax or let your legs stretch a bit if you want.

See you in 2 weeks.

Notes of interest - Post #47 has the list for those that have said they are going to be at the cookout on Friday. If your name is not on this list please post or PM me so we can get you added to the list (No ACL is not doing the list). You DO NOT have to be on the list to come to the cookout. We just need a head count so we have enough food. I am figuring a brat and hamburger for each person. You do not have to eat one of each, I am just talking out loud. There will be turkey and I believe chili and a tuna fish dish.

Curt has said he will lead a ride on Saturday if anyone wants to follow him. I believe around 2 -3 hours. Rich will lead one or more depending on interest and weather. When these shorter rides leave will be determined at the motel.

I will lead the long route of about 280 miles. I would like to leave at 8 Saturday morning. This will allow for several stops to break up the ride.

Saturday night will be a casual meal at The Shed in downtown Spring Green. Just got off the phone with the restaurant. We will need to split up how many go to it at a time. It is a small dining room. We would take every table if we went all at once. I told them we would send 12 or so starting between 5:30 and 6 and then more every 20 minutes or so. Saturday church gets out at 7 and he said that is when they get real busy. They have a banquet room but it is taken. I am hoping that the food will make up for this platooning of folks. You can tar and feather after the meal. We have all weekend to talk at the motel. Some have mentioned about cooking up some meat at the motel Saturday night. Any one that wants to do this is on their own for what they eat. If there any leftovers from Friday night I am sure it will be out to eat. DO NOT want anyone to go home hungry.

Look forward to seeing you at WiSTOC.

Kevin, as of now I still plan on attending, depending on my left ear, I noticed some soreness in it on the road prior to tentstoc. I has some blood on the foam ear plug that I use, and the soreness got progressively worse. I rode the weekend at tentstoc without the hearing protection hopeing that it would heal. As of now its swollen enough that I cannot get a Q tip into it to apply any kind of ointment and I am hopeing that it isn't something serious. Time will tell I guess. Danny

I'm not going to let the weather stop me and I don't even have decent rain gear at the moment. My rain suit jacket bit the dust and I dare not run out and get a replacement because I'm pretty sure my wife intends to get me a new Tourmaster Defender suit for my birthday (or Christmas). I have a cheap vinyl jacket that will have to get me through this trip and some old heavy duty rain pants that are ugly, dirty, and not very comfortable but they keep the lower half dry.

Sounds like I'll be camping in the rain too. Oh well, I've done that before and it's not a lot of fun but the camaraderie of the event will make up for it.

WiSTOC is officially started. One camper is already set up and out exploring. I put my rain gear on and that made it not rain on my trip here. Try it, it might work for you. At least it is not suppose to be cold this weekend. Mid 70's for highs and around 60 for the lows. Other than the forecasted scattered rain, what more could you ask for.

See you this weekend.

well we made it back home, we were the last to leave. Van and bike are all unpacked , everything is back in it's spot at home, and of course, Rich is nappin now. We had a great time, even with the weather of rain, it was fun, rain did hold of every night for a great fire. Cookout went great, turn out was awsome and people were nice , cheerful and friendly. Every year is great at WiStoc. Kevin, I think we all did an awsome job, and Thanks to all that were there for makin WiStoc 2 a great time. See you all next year

Kevin, Rich and Sally, thanks so much for putting WiSTOC together again. The food was great and those were the best mozarella sticks I've ever had.

Scout 17 and I made it to Madison for P.E. pictures. I'll get'em all posted soon. As we were mounting up for the run south, I said, "Let's look for a road house and maybe get some eggs."

Five miles later, on US 12 east (really south) out of the haze and rain appeared:

THE ROAD HOUSE!

No breakfast, but a pretty darn good cheese burger and fries. With drinks, the total was $10 for _both of us!_ Glad the food was cheap cause gas not. When I rolled into Illinois, it 's all well over $4. I saw under $3.50 last week in Minnesota. Ike has'em running scared.

Anyhoo, more thanks to Sally, Rich, and Kevin for a great weekednd in spite of the rain. Also Tammy and Fred at the Spring Green Motel. I've been going there for 14 years and it's better every time.

Scout and I split at Route 12 qnd Route 67, he headed on east and I went south. Rained the whole, right into Adam's garage. Things ought'a start clearing up tonight.

Good to see all youse guys and meet some new friends. Dave, keep yur boy on the road.

Next week, Tex/NatSTOC.

Solo's mind is in the gutter...again. :-).

Kevin, Rich, and Sally- You all did a great job hosting, planning, and coordinating this event.

Rich and Curt did a great job on their route choices.

Rich- The chili was awsome.

Sally- Thank you very everything you did, the tent was setup great. :bow1:

And last I would like to thank WI DOT for putting just the right amount of gravel on the side of the roads. :D

Edit: George you forgot to mention the covered reserved parking at THE ROADHOUSE.

Kevin

It was waaaaaaay too easy. I couldn't resist.

Solo's mind is in the gutter...again. :-).
..........

The use of "again" entails that at some point my mind was out of the gutter and then returned......not sure when that happened.

A quick epilogue to my travels... I received word early afternoon Sunday that the Lake Expres1s ferry wasn't running last night due to weather.

So I made the trek around Chicago only to discover that there was flooding that affected I-80 and I-94. The detour ran at stop and go speeds for hours. So to make a long story short, I pulled into my driveway around 2:10 AM this morning.

Always an adventure!

Oh, and would the person that asked me about the 12V USB adapters please message me. I ordered one and received 3 in the mail, so I have 2 spares and we can split the price.

Kevin, Rich & Sally, thanks for all the effort the three of you put in making this event happen. Had a great time. I lost a pair of Held Gloves someplace around the motel or at least I think that's where I lost them and was wondering if anyone happened to find them.

Thanks again for a great WISTOC

Curt, thanks for letting me know about my gloves. Yeah, figured I would miss a good ride, but after two nights of not sleeping very well it was probably for the best.

Bob, Sally has your gloves, see this post: linky (http://www.st-owners.com/forums/showthread.php?p=545708#post545708)

I told her at the event that we should give them out as a door prize!

I was hoping to run into you on Saturday after seeing your picture posted on Friday night.
