Room Update:
Rooms ARE AVAILABLE!
I've made reservations at the Holiday Inn Express (snagged the last 6 rooms) which I'll hold until Oct 29th. Rooms at the Howard Johnson are not on my card, just blocked out for us. They'll be held open until Nov 1st.

Holiday In Express: (352) 304-6111 "Shuey Wolfe, FLSTOC"
(some previous posts had one digit mis-typed, this one is good.) This is a brand new hotel although a little pricy, but 4 star quality. Reservations made with JoAnn. Includes breakfast.

I've reserved 3 Queen Suites (2 Queen beds + pull-out sofa) for $109 + 8.5% tax
I've reserved 3 King Suites (1 King Bed and 1 Pull-out sofa) for $115 + 8.5% tax.

To reserve one of these rooms, call direct to the hotel, give them my name (Shuey Wolfe) and that you're with "FLSTOC." They'll transfer the room to your name and off my MC (thank you very much).

Note: The OLD Holiday Inn (now called the Inn and Spa), just down the street, has plenty of rooms available for $69/night but ALL reviews online are that it's a nasty place.

Howard Johnson: (800) 262-8358 "FLSTOC"
For those looking for something less pricy, but still nice, you only need to go 8 miles away to the Howard Johnsons: Lots of parking and amenities and good reviews. They get the HI Express overflow. Reservations made with Mark. Includes breakfast.

I've reserved 10 rooms and can get more if needed should they go quickly. Rate is $54.99 for Nov 15th (Thur) and $69.99 for the 16-17th (Fri-Sat), plus 8.5% tax, regardless of King, double Queens, etc. If you want a room with jacuzzi, it's $20 more.
Call hotel direct at (800) 262-8358 and ask for an "FLSTOC" room then pick what kind you want.

Silver River State Park: (800) 326-3321 for reservations
Park direct number for info, NOT reservations: (352) 236-7148
As far as I know there's plenty of campsites still available. Sandman and motomac are at Site 14, Sites 13, 15 and 16 are still available.

Looking forward to meeting some new people. If you're attending, please note it in the Home Page Events and make a note here as to your accomodations. I'll try to stay ahead of the room and camping needs.

PS: Side note regarding - food. "Dickies" in Wildwood has been recommended as a good BBQ spot. FWIW

Snagged one of the reserved rooms at the HoJo. One of the things I need to do is sit with the campers and get an idea of the gear needed. I could have bought camping gear for what I paid in hotels and bunk rooms for NATSTOC and FL-STOC.

I'm heading up Thursday from Miami.

Hi, I'm new here and wondering what these STOC's are about. Is there a lot of riding or do you all just meet to camp out? I live in the Tampa area and looking for folks to ride with for day trips or longer.

You have come to the right place Rick. Jeannette and I are coming over Friday and going home Sunday. We plan to meet everyone and ride the area, eat and kick tires.

A thought just came to me. If we are going to be in a campground and multiple motels how are we going to hook up?

Here are our cell phone numbers:

Jeannette Hughes 321-537-5026

We are at the Holiday Inn Express.

Good Question. I'm heading down to the FLSTOC area to recon a little next week and try to identify some breakfast places to meet up. That way we can all gather in the am since we're spread out and some riders are local and just coming in for a day. I expect to have more information for everyone by the end of next week. Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.

NOTE: Anyone planning on coming or thinking about it, go to the "Home" screen, then the "FLSTOC" "Attend" page and sign in. It will help with the planning to be able to size up the group at one place. :)

If you guys are looking for day trips from Silver Springs I'd suggest any roads in Lake County which has some of the the best biking roads in this part of the state. Lots of hills and turns, but heavy traffic in the metro areas of Leesburg, Tavares and Clermont. 561 from south of Tavares all the way down to Rt33 noth of the Polk County line is a good run. Also strait North from Gainesville on back roads to lake Butler and points north into Georgia and winding down to Jacksonsville Beach. From there down to Palatka and back through the Ocala Forsest to Silver Springs. That would be a nice run. Its would be a full day for sure. I've only done that one once and it was several years ago so its not etched in my brain, but maps are a beautiful thing. I'll try to hook up with you guys for a day or two of riding. I live in the Tampa area so its less than 2 hours to Silver Springs.

Update Info after a 3 day recon:

Campsites are nice. On the way from the check-in gate to the sites (about a mile) saw 4 turkey hens cross the road in front of me and two small deer on the side of the road. Walter "the ol' bearded ranger" says the park opens at 8am and gates close at sunset, HOWEVER if you're arriving late, call the park direct and they'll put your check-in information in an envelope taped to the office door so you can let yourself in. (352) 236-7148

Holiday Inn Express is very nice (really brand new) and only a mile from the park gate. They have "found" some more rooms for us at a lower price of $85/night for double queen beds. Call the hotel to reserve or change your reservation if you want the lower price, (352) 304-6111. Reference "Shuey Wolfe" and "FLSTOC."

Howard Johnson is just fine, but it's over 25 minutes away in the morning from the HI Express and campgrounds.

A better choice is the Inn & Spa. This was discussed initially and discarded due to some bad PR on the web. I went there twice, night first (checked 2 rooms), then the next day and talked to the manger and visited 5 rooms - it looks great, all new interiors, carpet, furniture, the works, and less than a mile from the HI express and park. New owners took over in January'07, current manager started in March. All personnel were courteous and friendly and the new manager, Allison Melliinger, couldn't have been more helpful. They have guaranteed me that all STOC attendees will get completely refurbed rooms, blocked on the ground floor with parking in front of the room. Every effort will be made to keep us all together. Our rate is $49/night plus 8.5% tax for rooms with 2 double beds. Reservations can be made online as follows:
Go to: www.innandspaatthesprings.com
Select "Reservations" far right, top menu bar.
Select "Group Reservations" (don't pick dates yet)
1 LOGIN: Enter your Attendee Code "STOC", select Login
2 DATE & ROOM: Pick dates select room type, select # of adults
Pick "Contact Information"
3 CONTACT INFO: Complete the information and go to Step 4 to finish.
If you want a different type of room, call them up (877) 236-2575.
Rooms are going to be manually assigned based on reservations so we can get great rooms, ground floor with door front parking. Best offer going.

Breakfast meeting spot: I recommend the Bob Evans in Silver Springs, 8am Fri and Sat. Everyone can eat whatever they want. Hotel breakfasts consist of hard boiled eggs, dry cereal and stuff to toast at the HI Express and Howard Johnson. Inn & Spa does NOT include breakfast with the room as they have a Denny's in front.

Anyone have any ideas, comments, I'll be lookin.

Thanks for the appreciation Del. When you get a moment, update your RSVP info at the FLSTOC, ATTEND, page. That way everyone can see at a glance the count and where people are staying.

I switched from the HI Express to the Inn & Spa, door front parking plus lower cost.

See ya there.

Note to all: Rooms are being held until Nov 1st. After that the group rates expire and left over rooms will be released.

I don't mind at all... it would be great to have you. My camp spot will hold 2 tents and 2 vehicles acording to the reservation guidelines. Me and Todd will be staying in my tent and that still leaves room for another tent on our site #15. I have already offered it to Jeff, but as of yet he has not committed. Maybe what you should do is book another site at the campground just to be sure. But, if Jeff lets me know that he does or doesn't want in I'll let you know.

It's about 500 miles from Ocala to Key West and the last 120 from Florida City to Key West is mostly 45 mph, with a few spots at 55 mph, so plan that into your trip if your thinking about heading on down. You can blast down from Orlando to Florida City on the turnpike and make it smoothly in about 8 hours if you don't take too many breaks.

It's definitely worth the ride if you've never been there. Don't miss sunset on Mallory Square!

I think that it is about 6 hours if you don't stop a lot. 3 hours highway and 3 hours of US1. Everything in the Keys is measured by mile markers so you will see an Outback Steakhouse at mm57 or some number like that.

Go to "No Name Key" and see Key deer they are really small, you should be able to see gators and the like if you look for them out there too.

You need to walk Duvall St to and if it's lesbian week or fantasy fest or whatever you will want to have your camera ready.

Hey Shuey, have you developed any ride routes? If so, can you post them or a map or something? I imagine a lot of us would like to get them loaded into our GPS units asap.

Bill - sheesh, it's only Oct 8th and you want the routes to load ASAP? I'm work'in on it. Several people indicated a willingness to work on routes in the original thread, and anyone whose familiar with the area who wants to work up a route - then jump right in. I'm working on one route and hope there will be several more.

It's looking like a good turn-out with maybe 20 bikes or more. My very limited STOC experience (NaSTOC and EaSTOC) has lead to a tentative conclusion that smaller groups are more enjoyable than large ones that get too strung out. So maybe a minimum of 2 routes are needed and if the number grows 3 or 4 would be better. I'd like to see separate routes on the East and West side of I-75. Groups ride one on Fri and the other on Sat, after meeting up at Bob Evans for breakfast at 8am'ish each day.:chef3:

Again, I'm new at this, so any voices with experience . . .

Lots of STOC events under my belt. As far as groups, 6 or 7 is manageable. You don't necessarily need separate routes, just have a 10 minute or so lead time for one group. That way all the stops, lunch, breaks etc are pretty much still a group. We'll talk more about the intracies of group riding when we get closer. It is definately a different skill/approach...

Sounds like sage council. I see advantages to both strategies. Separate rides on Friday provides for good conversation Friday night as groups switch rides the next day. First day riders might identify a better lunch spot that the second day riders can enjoy, or suggest rerouting due to some new construction along the route, etc. Still plenty of time to work this out, and as long as the weather cooperates - it'll be a great time.

If you or someone wants to step in to organize the riding aspect of this gathering . . . it'd be helpful!

I'll be riding over late afternoon of the 16th and staying until Sunday. Will camp. Hopefully someone who has already reserved a camp site will have space for me to pitch my tent and I'll pay my share for the site. Anyone?

Bill,

Between Brian "et al" on site 15 and me and Mac on site 14 I'm sure we'll be able to fit another tent in there somewhere.

Thanks, Gordon. I'll look forward to it and if it ends up not being enough room, the extra spaces get taken up before I get there or no other camp sites available, well, the park is only a little over an hour from my home in Palm Coast, anyway and I can commute pretty easily. :D

It's just a straight run down SR-11 to SR-40 and across 40 to the park on CR-35. While I've never been to Silver River SP, I've done the 11 to 40 and across to Ocala many times.

Hey Shuey, sorry, I wasn't trying to push and I think my message did not come out as I intended it to. Like you, I don't have much experience with STOC events--I've only been to the one that was quickly planned as FL-STOC 1 last December (but the Saturday ride was great!).

I don't have much experience on the west side of I-75, only been over there a couple of times, but I have ridden quite a bit east of I-75.

Being inexperienced with STOC ride events, I'm not sure how long a ride should be in hours and/or miles. Do you or others think there might be an interest in a longer ride that would, say take in St. Augustine (oldest city in the USA and a visit to the Fort), then down A1A (one of the most famous roads in the USA (although not the best of roads to ride unless you like lots of ocean views) or at least in Florida, to Daytona?

I'm not sure if attendees want lots of twisties (not exactly easy to find a lot of these in FL) or would prefer to see "things", like historic and/or famous areas.

This is my .00000002 cents of course.

I think those going to FL-STOC understand that this is not the most twisty part of the country. I lived in Plant City, near Tampa a few years back for about 6 months and it was cool to see that part of the Gulf and also have a chance to see the other side of FL as well.

I think you have some good ideas. As far as ride lengths it's tough to say but I'd shoot for something between breakfast and lunch - maybe a 4 hr span then something afterwards, another 3-4 hrs... If it's a hot day, that last couple of hours will take it's toll on some.. I don't have a good way to gauge what's too much or too little...

First, Bill, I didn't feel "pushed," thought message was timely and on target. We've got time to put something really fun together, appreciate your thoughts and help.

Second, there's plenty of campsites available last time I checked. If 14 and 15 are full, start another.:)

Finally downloaded some pics from my recon trip. Here they are: HI Express, Site 14, Site 15, Inn&Spa sign, Inn&Spa front office. I had some of Ho Jo, it's nice also, but I think it's out - to far away. Anyone still booked there, let me know and I'll put up some pics of it also. Let me know anyway, otherwise I'll cancel the block of rooms to free them up.

Shuey, et al:

Attached is a rough map of a proposed ride I've put together. The ride takes us over backroads from Silver River SP up to St. Augustine, down past the old Spanish fort, then down A1A through Marineland and Flagler Beach before jumping off for a few miles to ride part of the famous "Loop" (we did part of this last year) then back to A1A and south through Daytona Beach then west past the Daytona International Speedway and on out to Deland, then up through the country to SR40 and back west to Silver River SP.

Mapsource is telling me that it's 287 miles and will take just under 6 hours of riding, not counting stops. There are plenty of places to stop along the way for refreshments, food, photos, etc. This would be an all day ride, of course, with lunch somewhere along the way; however, we could easily cut it short and head back to the park anywhere along the way. I also have the Mapsource .gbd file and will be happy to provide it if anyone is interested in this ride.

What say you? Anyone interested in this? Suggestions?

ParkerBill,
That looks interesting. Heres one I put together. Its 282 miles and goes on back roads through some of the hilly areas north of Gainesville, then down along St. Johns river and back through the Ocala forest to Silver Springs. It should be pretty scenic with little traffic and there should be places to eat around the half way point in Green Cove Springs. I'll program this route into my new gps which I havn't figured out how to work yet or even installed on the bike. I'll try to run the route before STOC just to verify it beacuse I havn't been on some of these back roads.
I plan one being there Friday morning for breakfast and staying at the inn and spa Firday night. I'll probably head back to Tampa after the Saturday ride. We don't have to do this run but I know Shuey is looking for suggestions.

I had offered a while back to put together some ride ideas but my thoughts have been more on BamaStoc than FLSToc so far. I see a couple of good rides already offered for the FL event.

This website has a number of good north central FL rides with several passing very close or through Ocala <http://s154.photobucket.com/albums/s274/Roader06/ I would use some portion of these for a Saturday ride.

I led a ride last year but it was one way 300+ miles as the goal was to get Brian and Todd over to Panama City. My problem is I don't like to plan to the ninth degree. I wait until the week of a ride to take into account weather if it impacts whether I ride north, west, or south.

Dave,
Appreciate the consideration and effort. I'm sure whatever ideas you have will be appreciated by other riders and it looks like we've got a good size group showing up. The more routes available, whether planned in advance or decided closer to the event, will increase the likelyhood that we can have smaller groups. Thanks for the photobucket ref.:)

I'll be heading up to BamaSTOC on Thursday and departing on Saturday. Hope to meet you on Friday and maybe share a ride. Have a breakfast spot picked out (I'm not camping, staying in Pelham HI Ex)?

That was a great ride you put together at last year's FL-STOC, too!!

By the way, I was out riding yesterday and ended up at the Silver River State Park and it's as good as you said, Shoey. I talked with the gentleman with the beard at the entrance and mentioned we were having an event and he told me you had been there a couple of times checking it out and even said, "gee, you have a bike just like his"!! I kind of laughed and told him he was going to see a lot more just like it when the event is held, since we are an ST owners' club. He was really nice and told me to go on in, free, and check the place out, which I did.

Oh yeah, on the way over, going west on 40, I was about half way between Astor and Wildcat Lake and noticed a few cars and a motorcycle pulled over on both sides of the road. I slowed down to see what was going on and noticed a woman taking pictures. Then I saw the black bear foraging around between the woods and the highway.

I pulled over and stopped about 50-60 feet from the bear (left my motor running in case a hasty retreat was necessary :D ). I'd guess the bear was around 300 pounds or so and looked to be in excellent health, its hide was very sleek and black. This woman taking the pictures was about 20 feet from the bear and was so engrossed she didn't seem to notice the bear starting to amble her way until some guy in an SUV opened his door and told her she needed to back off, which she sort of reluctantly did.

Traffic was flying by us at around 60-65 mph and I was trying to slow them down because I was afraid the bear might bolt out into the road, but it finally wandered back up into the trees so I left. Since my motor was running and I had ear plugs in and my helmet on and couldn't hear all that well, perhaps one of the guys hollered and scared the bear back into the trees.

So boys and girls, you should probably heed those bear crossing signs you'll see all over the place in the area of Ocala National Forest--there are, in fact, bears there.

Sorry me though--it was the one day I didn't have my digital camera with me!!!!!!! :(

I guess you now know why the bear was in excellent health.. LOL

Doesn't anyone watch the discovery channel? The grizzly outrunning the deer-like animal in Yellowstone....

Just a reminder for those camping... don't sleep anywhere near any food. Toss it... or bring a bear bag... don't hide it in your bike either.. are there metal bear-proof containers at the campgrounds?

I don't mean to scare anyone, information is your most powerful tool. They really don't want to eat you, just your burgers and hot dogs....

Hmmmmmmmmm, you know, I rode through the Silver River SP campground and saw sites 14 and 15, but I don't recall seeing any bear-proof containers. Doesn't mean they weren't there--maybe I just didn't notice them. I know the day-use area right beside Wildcat Lake has bear warning signs and bear-proof trash receptables, but that's around 20 miles or so east of Silver River SP.

Your warning is very sound, Joe. I've lived in and camped in bear areas almost my entire adult life and it is always wise to take precautions.

1. Never take any food into your tent.
2. If you have cooked food, your clothes may retain those smells, so should not be worn into the tent. Stored food should be in bear-proof containers or hung high enough that bears cannot reach it.
3. Strong cosmetics should be avoided inside the tent.
4. I'm not sure how to say this delicately, but it has also been noted that women having their period need to take extra precautions.

Having said the above, I have for the most part been pretty lax over the years and never had any problems--'course I do normally sleep with a .44 mag loaded with my special "bear rounds" handy when I'm in bear country (just in case). :) Not that I think I'll need it, but I do tend to sleep better and so does my wife.

Also, I picked up a brochure at the park and I just looked at it--they make no mention whatsoever about bears, so I assume they haven't had any problems with them in the park. However, their web site does mention that black bears inhabit the park, but "are not normally seen".

I've already got the invite out to Jeff for the second tent on our site, but he hasn't let me know yet, and also I told John he could have the second spot on the site if Jeff declines. So, anyway at this point I can put you third in line for it, but I think if I was you I might reserve another site before they are gone. Here's the CT group prelininary plan. A late afternoon on Wed the 14th departure from Todd's place. We can pick you up along the way. We then sleep Wednesday night somewhere in New Jersey, possibly at Steve's, but that's still up in the air. If we don't sleep at steve's we can stay anywhere along the way. The more miles we get in on Wed night the less we'll have to cover on Thursday. Then we get an early start on Thursday and do the remainder of the trip on Thursday..... possibly a 1000 mile day.... and get there and tent there from Thursday night through Saturday night. On Sunday morning we will depart the campground and head west over to Port New Richey and spend the night there at Todd's parent's house (won't they be proud)! Then we leave on Monday morning for half the trip home. Then the remainder of the trip home on Tuesday so we should be home by Tuesday night.

All of this is still up in the air and subject to change, but it is the plan as of the moment.

Jeez!! You guys are hardcore.:bow1:
I wish I could be there all 4 days but doubt I can spare more than the weekend. I live 320mi south so it will be a great ride up on Friday night.
I better get out and buy a throttlemeister or some good duct tape for the trip.
Has the thread moved somewhere else, I haven't seen any postings for a month?

Brian, thank you for the tip. I just joined and intend to return to the idea which first attracted me to long distance riding.

There is also some good camping info at the CalSci site.

BTW, the CalSci site also has a great suggestion (worked for me) for a throttle lock. I use a large o-ring to snug down my throttle. Adjusted correctly, it takes all the load off your wrist and still returns, slowly, to idle.

Spencer, I sent you an email. I usually just ride local 5-20 miles, so a gel-seat adjustment will definitely be needed for the 320mi ride.

If you're camping, AgSTreak has room at his site, and if not camping there should be room at the Inn & Spa and maybe the Holiday Inn Express. I'll check in the morning for the current status. Look earlier on this thread for the phone numbers and how to request the room. :shrug1:

Look forward to seeing you there!

If you're looking for a place to stay, there's plenty of room left! Make a reservation and join the FLSTOC crowd. I'll be heading down there again on Thursday for two nights at the Inn & Spa to check it out first hand, recon some area eateries and check out a route I'm workin' up. :07biker:

Lodging Update Info, 22Oct07:

Campsites: Silver River SP is now booked up. So, you can share with someone already in, find another campground or get a room. If you're arriving at the Silver River SP campground after sunset, give them a call for late arrival check-in information at (352) 236-7148. :)

Holiday Inn Express: Very nice (really brand new) and only a mile from the park gate. Blocked rooms still available at a special rate of $85/night for double queen beds. Call the hotel direct to reserve (352) 304-6111. Reference "Shuey Wolfe" and "FLSTOC" to get a room. :)

Howard Johnson: Blocked rooms have been canceled. Nice place, just a little far from everyone else. Inn & Spa is a few dollars cheaper.

Inn & Spa: Block rooms still available, 4 rooms already reserved.
If you want a different type of room or just don't want to do it online, call them up (877) 236-2575.
Rooms are going to be manually assigned based on reservations so we can get great rooms, ground floor with DOOR FRONT PARKING. Best offer going! :)

Breakfast meeting spot: I recommend the Bob Evans in Silver Springs, 8am Fri and Sat. Everyone can eat whatever they want. :) :)

Hotel breakfasts consist of hard boiled eggs, dry cereal and stuff to toast at the HI Express and Howard Johnson. Inn & Spa does NOT include breakfast with the room as they have a Denny's in front.

Anyone have any ideas, comments? I'll be lookin.

Greetings,
For those planning rides through the Daytona area, do they include a pass through the Tomoka State Park? It is unquestionably the prettiest ride in the entire area. It's in Ormond Beach and could easily be added to an Easterly run. Unspoiled marshlands with all the usual inhabitants and miles of smooth tree tunneled roads. It has been the highlight of my Bikeweek since the bands, beers, and booths all started to look the same a few years back. If this is a no brainer, been there done that thing, my apologies, but It amazes me how many longtime Bikeweekers are unaware of the best thing the area offers to those who come to ride. The only problem with a poll like this is it won't account for those bringing friends.. so, the RSVP in the calendar along with this will give you not only who is staying where but if they are bringing anyone.

Hey FL guys..

Great work organizing this event. My and my CT brothers are really looking forward to coming down. I believe as it stands there are 4 of us making the journey south. (Remember you all must return the favor and come to CT SToc next Sept! :D)

Now onto some business..Looks like this puppy is really growing and will have a big turnout. Some food for thought here and some experience to lean on with these STOC events. In the Northeast we usually get together in groups for STOCs, Pre-rides and RTEs quite often and most of the events have us with at least 20 bikes. Generally speaking it is good to keep groups down to 6 or 7 bikes. And then allow a 10 minute or so spread between groups. That way all the rest stops and food breaks are done in a group but the ride group numbers are a little lower for safety and plain logistical reasons.

The reason I go into the above rant is to begin thinking about group leaders and people that are willing to take on groups that know the route and area. This way it is not all done haphazzardly the morning when everyone is done breakfast looking at each other scratching their heads. It also avoids putting somebody in an uncomfortable position of not wanting to lead a group and putting them on the spot in front of everyone. Not wanting to lead a group is no big deal and a perfectly honorable and acceptable view IMO. However with 20 to 30 bikes, we are going to be at least 3 or more groups..

Something to think about.

I'm thinking that we will prolly be rolling through there early on Thursday morning. The plan is to leave NJ at about 4-5AM and head south for the 1000 miler to Silver Spring Sate Park.

BTW, anyone going to be bringing their FMRS Radio? I'll have mine. I just got my PTT button so I won't have to screw with the VOX settings anymore.

Another 3 day recon completed - I'm really start'in to like the Silver Springs area.

Some quick notes:
Kempo-STer - good points regarding group size / organization, we're of a like mind. We'll see what can be developed beforehand.

Spent the last two nights at the Inn & Spa, no problems. Woke up this morning and there were over 100 Corvettes in the parking lot, in town for a Corvette show across the street today. Awesome.

Inn & Spa block rooms are still available at the $49 rate. Follow the directions posted previously or just call them up. Reference my name "Shuey Wolfe" and "STOC" to reserve the room. They're going to manually assign our rooms as a block to keep us together, ground floor, door front parking.

I haven't seen any responses regarding the proposed meeting time of 8 am at Bob Evans on Fri and Sat, so that's where it still is. I have the Managers number and although they don't allow "reservations" they'll block out a section for us if I call an hour in advance. Sounds a lot like making a "reservation." Nice people.

Friday dinner, for anyone interested, found a great Italian place with huge made to order salads, pizza by the slice along with lots of other stuff, almost across the street from Bob Evans - Pronto Pizza. The name sounds like a delivery place, but it isn't at all.

Still working on Saturday night gathering spot for food and . . . "P R I Z ES" Would ya'll be willing to ride 20-25 minutes to get "home" for the night (and have those beers you've been thinking of all day)? If so, then maybe Alligator Joe's of Ma Barker fame might be a good spot. Otherwise I'm still working on a spot closer in.

SHIRTS: So how much would someone be willing to pay for an FLSTOC 2008 shirt?

Last year for FL-STOC Todd and I used our radios all the way down there and back using VOX and all went well. But sometime between then and now the VOX on my autocom is so touchy that it's a choice between either having to scream and only half of the transmission is loud enough to transmit, or having to hold your breath so as not to trigger it. The PTT is going to make it a whole lot better.

BTW, we usually use 4-1 but we can change also.

Here is a link to a FRS/GMRS brand - number - frequency chart from a board member. We just need to pick a channel.

http://stwiki.notonthe.net/twiki/bin/view/General/RadioReference

I think channel 1 would be a good choice since it is the same on all radios except Icom (channel 1 is channel 9 on Icom) and it is both a FRS and a GMRS frequency so the GMRS radios can use full power, or would the radio switch to low power because it is on an FRS frequency?

First come means you better get there by Thursday at 8am. I personally am riding in from Miami and should also be there for dinner on Friday.

You did a great job last year. I am really sorry I did not have my video setup on the bike. I hope to have that all in place this year.

Todd, thanks for reminding us that Dave originally pushed hard for this event last year and it has set up the base for this year... kudos to Dave!

Picking on yourself is not a bad idea, just watch the nose area.

Also, there won't be any XXL shirts but maybe we can sew a couple L shirts together for you.. :nanner1:

The routes are looking good, Dave. I received your emails but am out of town teaching a training class for work and for some reason I can receive your messages, but my replies are not being sent--perhaps because I am not hooked directly to my cable internet provider.

Room Update: Inn & Spa agreed to hold open the block rooms until 13Nov when they'll close it out so they can assign rooms to keep us together.

Fri and Sat breakfast at 8am - Bob Evans
Fri dinner, for those who want, 6'ish Pronto Pizza
Sat Dinner, Denny's, 6'ish, PRIZES, PRIZES, Prizes

Several of us coming in on Thursday, hadn't picked a spot for dinner, but it's a good idea. How about some Mexican food, 6'ish at El Toreo in Silver Springs? 3790 E Silver Springs Blvd, Silver Springs. :eat2: My mouth is watering already! Good idea BlaSTr!!

Good for me. I'm heading up early on the 15th and staying at the Holiday Inn (which still has room at the STOC rate as of this writing) after realizing that I didn't want to be 8 miles away.

This is shaping up to be better than the last one. And posting the routes was a great idea. Now I've got to get them into my Garmin 276.

Just got a response from Spencer that he expects to be up for breakfast Sunday morning. So . . . adding another meal for those on the schedule for those who are interested: Bob Evans, 8am'ish.

How does he do it? You might ask. ;)
(Guess what, no Bob Evans' anywhere near Niceville, FL!)

The nearest Cracker Barrel is 18 miles away in Ocala. :(
There is a Bob Evans at: 4985 E SILVER SPRINGS BLVD, OCALA FL 34470 (352) 438-0230 and that's about 1 mile from the Holiday Inn Express 34488 zip code. :)
Denny's is at: 5751 E. SILVER SPRINGS BLVD, SILVER SPRINGS, FL 34488 (352) 236-1500 and about 8 miles away.
IHOP is at: 1124 Southwest Pine Avenue, Ocala, FL 34471 (352) 629-2727 about 13m west of 34488.

Or we could find a non-chain place for eats.

Hey you live very close to us, look forward to meeting you. I assume you are out at Patrick AFB or at least play softball there, we are at the Holiday Inn and I see that you are camping :tent3: so I will see you at a meal or on the road.

Sounds great, I have done a bit of group riding with cruisers and wings, it's a lot of fun but you will want to watch your butt until you figure out which of your riding buddies will be a threat to your life,, then give them a lot of space. Group riding being different and all.

Hey Joe,
As I was reading through all the latest posts on FL-STOC I came up with an idea that I think would be very helpful and useful for any group event like FL-STOC, etc.

Seems to me like instead of having all the routes, eating/meeting places, etc., scattered helter skelter throughout 23+ pages of discussions, bantering, comments, etc., of one thread it would be nice to have a few other threads under the event sub-forum; say one specifically for GPS routes and mapping; another for hotels, campgrounds and eating places and perhaps another for the scheduled meetings and such. Even more if appropriate.

Then, anyone interested can go to a specific thread under the sub-forum and get the specific information s/he needs instead of having to read through several pages of posts to find what they need.

Obviously, these specific threads should not contain a lot of discussion or other extraneous posts, etc., but be limited just to the specifics.

What do you think? Good idea? Yeah, I'm some what anal about information organization. :D
