"For those of you that have any idea about going to any SToc events next year, get you brightest crayon/marking pencil/magic marker, whatever and put this one on your calendar!!!! Going, spending two days and coming home have been the best four days of my year so far. It had been a long time since I spent any quality time in NE, but I must say GRN and company put on a fabulous show. The two days I rode, Greg was the leader of my group and I had blast (if that's possible for someone as old as me). If you haven't ridden to the top of Mt Washington yet, that is something else to put on your calendar of events!!! Thanks Greg for everything!!!!!!"
:bow1: :bow1: :bow1: Motomac 09.07, ST-Owners 2007 MOTY, and 'Banner Boy' at 14 '07 STOC events!

Not much new for '08... same great place, same great time! Unlike previous years, we're going to stay put and keep home base at the Kanc Motor Lodge in Lincoln (http://www.kancmotorlodge.com/)... nice facility run by nice folks, and the food is FANTASTIC! We're also going to stick with the 4 day format.
Lodging
There is a large block of rooms being held for us until August 4, any reservations made after that will be at regular rates. If you want to come, pick up the phone, the lodge was sold out last year from Thursday night through the weekend. Our discounted group rates (make sure to mention NNESTOC):
Wed. & Thurs. (weekday) standard room rates including tax $79.92/night
Fri. & Sat. (weekend) standard room rates including tax $90.72/night
Grub :eat1:
There are quite a few eateries in walking distance... the best two of the group you can basically fall into if needed :beer2: ... the kitchen at the lodge is very good, and food can be ordered in the Cafe dining room, or the sports bar downstairs. There is also "The Common Man" next door, one of my all time favorites with great food and atmosphere. The lodge offers a nice convenient meal plan that includes anything on the regular menu for breakfast and dinner for $38.40 (includes tax & gratuity) per person per day.
Camping :tent6:
More info to come... mac liked this one (http://www.countrybumpkins.com/).
Fire pit :cf1:
The fire pit will be again available for our use. :cop2:
Bike Cleaning Station
We will have a bike cleaning station set up complete with hoses, rags & kick stand rests for our convenience.
The only 'official' activity linked to this event will be the Saturday Evening gathering for dinner, prizes, etc. If a whole bunch of you show up several days early and choose to kill time riding motorcycles all over the country side, more power to you, you will most likely have an absolute blast... I am certainly looking forward to it. There are no group rides or ride leaders officially associated with this event.
There are some 'unofficial' groups forming up to ride together, that info is in a separate thread - http://www.st-owners.com/forums/showthread.php?p=534047#post534047
If you go to my profile (http://grn.grouprider.com) on GroupRider.com, I will have a list of shared routes up by the end of July that show routes I have previously ridden and enjoyed for their scenic and/or riding quality. These are not direct recommendations, as I have not ridden many of them in some time, and can't qualify their conditions. Anyone who chooses to take note of these routes does so as responsible adults, at their own risk. New England roads can present a great deal of variability/hazards, including but not limited to:
- A variety of wildlife ranging from small rodents to larger deer and moose
- Varied surface conditions from winter/frost damage
- Downed trees and large debris from logging trucks
I highly recommend that when riding unfamiliar roads, here or anywhere, that you do so at a speed that doesn't exceed your ability to stop within your sight line. Now that I have covered my ***, come, ride, and have fun... there is fantastic riding in every direction from Lincoln... it's actually pretty hard to find a BAD road. Tourist traffic is almost non-existent this time of year, best time to ride up here IMO :D

Tell them to get WiFi so that I don't have to seat outside to steal the deli's signal. Hey it doesn't hurt to ask.
Other than that it was great. :)
When should we start booking the rooms?

Sounds great Greg....Put Sam and I down for a spot and let us know when we can book at the Kanc. We dont need no stinkin' WiFi...besides all the other necessities leave no space for the laptop anyways.
Un-interrupted caveman TV would be much nicer if it can be arranged.
Uninterrupted cave man TV and the crazy beyoch is already a hot topic, have you covered bro :D
We'll be working on lodging details in November while Leo & Nicole have a little down time between seasons. I'm going to try and work some kind of deal that gives a better discount to folks who can come earlier and spend more nights there, maybe even a package to incorporate a meal plan... I think everyone was impressed with the house eatery :clap2:. I'm even going to suggest that a nice big tent down by the fire pit would be a great addition for all of the group things they do... anyone up for a :pig1: roast?

Lodging/dining info is now plugged into the main post of the thread... still trying to work out some better deals for longer stays and meal plans, will have that wrapped up soon.

Thinking about and remembering times like these make getting through the winter possible.
Now Greggy, I take it that this four day event means getting to the lodge for Wed. evening and then :beer8: ,
then riding all day Thursday and then :capwin: ,
then riding all day Friday and then :capwin: ,
then riding all day Saturday and then:beer2: ,
then we all go home  .
Please correct me if I am mistaken ;)

I just can't wait to get the wheels rolling. This winter seems so much longer than last year. I have cabin fever so bad that I'm looking into what it takes to install the Audiovox cruise control. With the kind of traffic we have here, I think that it is probably not worth the trouble.
Is anybody thinking of heading out to PA Grand Canyon STOC?

Why don't you ride up here and I will help you with the cruise install once all this crap melts that is. I've had the audiovox cruise for a couple of year now and I would have to say that it is by far the best farkle for the money.
I guess you guys were just on the other side of the freeze line for this last storm that dumped another foot on us. I wont be riding for while yet and we are off to Puerto Vallarta in four weeks to get some sun so hopefully all the snow will be melted by the time we get back. Hope the roads are clearing up for you guys down there.

Yes, this winter seems to be dragging. We didn't necessarily get a ton of the white stuff here in CT, but winter just seems to be dragging. Visited my bike last weekend @ it's storage unit, and as I feared, my battery is dead. Unfortunately there's no outlets there so I can keep my battery tender hooked up. Oh well, it's the original battery, and could use replacing anyway. Lets hope it warms up and it will be sooner rather than later!!

03-16-2008, 03:43 PM
Jeff... just grab the battery and take it home to charge it up. It may be OK and not need replacing. Being original, you might want to replace it anyway, but who knows.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. If it were newer, I would have pulled it out and brought it home, but I figured I'll just pick up a new one......assuming it gets nicer out!! I didn't ride enough last season, so I've got to make up for lost time!

The Rosendale/New Paltz, NY contingent would make an effort to wrangle a way to do the ride up to NH instead of NESTOC if you do end up having this in June. I was dropping the Motel expense and only going to hook into the Saturday ride if you all went to NESTOC this year anyway.

Hi Jon,
Welcome to the family. :)
I've attended the last two and I'm going for my 3rd. Everyone has a good time. The KML motor lodge is a perfect home base due to it's location and the food there is very good. There's also the Common Man Restaurant next door for excellent casual fine dining. - This year GRN, and a few others will probably do some pre-rides to check out most of the roads in the state and post up routes for everyone's availability to use. During the event, it's left up to every individual to decide or plan their own day. You'll have no trouble finding people to ride with or to ride with you, if you know the area. If the weather cooperates, there'll most likely be many grouping up to go to the Mt Washington summit on the auto road. - The lodge has gone above and beyond to setup a large fire pit just for us where many usually hang out in th evenings for some beer and fun. - As for the people, you can't find a better bunch than this. There'll be husbands, wives boyfriend's, girlfriends, mothers, fathers, children and singles. Everyone gets along and everyone has lots of FUN! :D
Hope you can go. It'll be nice to see more ST1100's in the mix. :)

Corry, thanks, just got a note from Mark (ulyrider) to the same effect re: 125. Guess that just means we'll have to run 17 in both directions :D, oh, the pain!
The Rangeley detail of the Thursday ride isn't set in stone, but I'll be up for a good long roll regardless of the direction chosen. Thursday will be the best (weather permitting) to knock out a long one while we're good and fresh and have a small group. Friday & Saturday will likely see larger groups congeal with a bit more priority on the social interaction during the ride. I need one day to just unwind and go ride like the wind... :D
Is anyone interested in meeting for some :bow1: Curtis Ribs on the way in Weds?

Bob,
I think things will gel a bit once everyone gets there... a lot of folks coming to Lincoln have their heads in leaving this week for ONSTOC, myself included. I'm not planning anything this year... just gonna get up in the morning and pick a direction and go, and probably not at the pace you are looking for. I'm sure you'll have no problem hooking up with others of like interest once we get there.
Hi Gang,
First ride with the NNESTOC. Traveling with my Wife (passenger). Arriving Friday night and looking for adventure on Saturday. Any one interested in riding up Mt Washington?

We did Mt Washington last year on Friday. Its worth the experience.
You just have to hope the weather cooperates.
BTW, I have a room with double beds reserved. I was hoping Dave Thompson might be riding with me, but this is the same weekend as a VFR get-together that he is committed to. So if anyone needs a bed, just let me know.

I'm counting on Mt Washington Sat for Jenny, she missed it last year - it was like a hollywood special effects 3d movie, awsome.

Looks like 125 is open again:
VT 125: Road work cleared.
Between US Route 7 South and State Route 100. The road work has been cleared, the normal traffic lanes have been restored, the normal road layout has been restored, the roadway is reopened to traffic for a long period.
Comment: Rte 125 has now Re-Opened to 2- way traffic its entire length from Hancock to Middlebury. There are places that have yet to receive pavement, and further work is to be done in the comming weeks. Please use CAUTION still while traveling over this road as some of it is still gravel. Kindly slow down, and be aware of changing road conditions.

Looks like 125 is open again:
Cool... if we can only work in one to get to the west slope to run 17 east, I'm actually liking 73 through Brandon gap better than 125. Ran it twice getting to/from Ontario... once during early morning fog through about 30 flocks of Turkey , then on the way home conditions were ideal but I was spent and rode it pretty conservatively. It will find it's way into a ride next week for sure! There is some nice stuff along the river on 73 west of Brandon too.

Ken, there are a bunch of folks who are on the fence who have not made reservations so you should be able to fill the room.

Hey Greg et al,
I finally managed to get myself an old ST a couple months ago. I've been putting it through the paces and sprung a coolant leak last week while on Vacation is Whitefield.
If the parts come in on time and I can fix the bike, I plan to head up from Nashua on Thursday afternoon (anyone heading north thursday that wants to skip the slog up 93 and ride backroads is welcome to follow me), meet some folks thurs night then head home. Then ride back up Saturday AM in time for breakfast and a good ride !
I'm really looking forward to meeting some more local (New England) ST riders.
BTW... last week I was up in Errol, there's about 6-7 miles of fresh pavement on Rt 16 between Berlin and Errol (and the rest of the road was in decent shape) ! So if I was going up to Rangley I'd plan on hitting that for sure...
Hope to meet you soon,
Chris K

North of Rt 26, Rt 16 it is still on the rough side, a bit better in Maine. I rode up that way on Sat. had lunch at the Gingerbread House in Oquossoc. My friends I was riding with went up on Friday, I couldn't get the day off, making it a 500+ mile day for me (Whew!). We stayed at (well only one night for me) Mountain Lake Campground in Lancaster.
Corry
I'll probably do a lunch run to Rangeley one day of NNESTOC, I'll take the Kanc to Passaconway, to Hurricane Pass, then up through the notch and over to 17 up to Oquossoc. On the way back I'll either come down the Andro., or over the pass and down the CT on the VT side then back across if time and :butt1: allow ;)
Hope you can make it Chris, let me know if there's anything I can do to help. There are some folks looking to share a room, and my family won't be joining me until Saturday if you need a place to crash Thursday and Friday.
In thinking about what I'm going to do ride wise... I would like to know:
1. who's going to be up in time for an early AM departure on Thursday morning? I'll probably run a long loop to the west and nail some good stuff in VT, would love a little company.
2. who's coming who has never been in the area and would like to do a moderately long ride (300 ish) on Friday... a good mix of great roads and good local flavor/scenery?
3. who's interested in visiting Curtis' in Putney, VT (just off exit 4 of I-91) for some DAMNED GOOD RIBS either on the way in Weds., or on the way home Sunday?
I'm not going to have any set routes... will be improvising all weekend.... "hey, what's up that road?" If a few of you want to follow me, you're welcome to do so at a pace you are comfortable with, I'll wait for everyone at the next turn.
And just to emphasize the point:
There a no pre-set routes or leaders... there will be a set of master maps of NH, VT and ME with good roads highlighted, and some freebies of at least NH and some highlighters available for everyone to make their own. Please utilize the social environment to connect with other riders who are grouping up ahead of time, preferably the night before. Please DO NOT just come ready to ride in the mornings as a tag along with a group that has put together a ride without having made prior contact/arrangements, as most leaders will not want their groups to grow beyond 6-8 bikes, some maybe even less.
At PASTOC some folks created a little friction with the organizer for also structuring it this way, which I personally found not cool because he made it a very clear point ahead of time as well... and we ended up with some larger than desired groups, and even had some folks who came with no intention of leading step up to break them to manageable numbers (thanks, Billy!). I'm going to do my best to not let anyone put me or other guests in that position. This detail has been covered several times now in this thread, so if you show up unprepared, you are on your own. I'm not trying to be unfriendly here, but I'm not up for finding out after breakfast that my nice tight group of 6 has suddenly become 14... it doesn't work for how or where I ride. Thanks in advance for understanding.
Hi Folks,
Sent along a note the other day about a Mt Washington ride on Saturday. If the weather holds, we are looking for other folks who are interested. Otherwise we want to "Play well in the Sand Box" and see what other groups we can tag along with? Up for most anything. We arrive Friday night around 8:30. This is our first ride with the ST group so we are looking to learn the ropes and make some great riding freinds.

Jon, I believe you won't have any trouble getting together with folks for a trip up Mt. Washington. I will suggest that those who are interested in this don't set the day in stone though... if you're there and Friday is clear and the wind is reasonable, go for it when you have the window... it can close fast and tight. Friday is likely to offer up much lighter traffic on the auto road as well, which is a big plus on the top few miles. If I were planning it I would shoot for Friday and use Saturday as a back up if the weather is problematic.
When are you rolling into Lincoln?
Still wondering if any rides planned for Friday or Saturday with other couples or slower pace groups.???
Bob, maybe you should plan one and let others fall in with you? :D
I'm rolling in Friday afternoon and happy to try and hook up with a ride group that night. Having only attended one other STOC event, I'm looking forward to meeting more of these great folks. Understand there are no preset routes or leaders but perhaps there are people attending that are more familiar with the area and roads that we might try and check in with?
Ken, I'll be happy to sit down with maps and a highlighter and hook folks up with some direction based on what they want to do. I have 20 maps coming from VT, will swing into Maine on Weds and pick up 20 of those, and the lodge has plenty of NH maps. You're also welcome to join me on whatever ride I end up taking on Saturday.
The Saturday night dinner will be held at the lodge... 7PM should leave plenty of time to get back in from rides, shower, and get primed :wine2::beer3:

Sounds great Greg... Sam and I are getting excited and I am starting to pack for the trip down on Wed. already.... I know its still a week away
We are looking for few nice relaxed rides this time allowing us to see and photograph some of the sights.... Do you have a list of sights ( covered bridges, scenic overlooks etc) that you would recommend?
See you on Wed night.

I've been scouring Google maps and MapSource but they sure don't beat local expertise!
Have never ridden to Vermont or New Hampshire and excited to be headed into new territory! I'm riding in from western New York and looking for feedback, construction warnings, detours, bridges out, route advice or any other tips. :)
I'm likely going to scoot across New York via Thruway / Route 90 just to get out of NY quickly :), off at Amsterdam, over to Rt 87 and up to Fort Ann and pick up Route 4. Take Rt 4 all the way across Vermont. From there, maybe pick up Rt 91 up to Orford and then a scenic ride in to Lincoln via Rt 25A and Rt 118 at Wentworth through the White Mountain National Forest.
Thanks for any comments guys! :4is:

Just some ideas from last year for the newbies
Mt Washington Auto Road (http://www.mountwashingtonautoroad.com/)
Castle in the Clouds (http://castleintheclouds.org/)
White Horse Press (http://www.whitehorsepress.com/) closed Saturday
Thanks Bill, I was getting to that...
Ken, I wouldn't take 4 across on Friday PM... way not fun. Once in VT on 4, hang North on 22a, to 144 East, to 30 North, to 73 East through Brandon and over the pass to Rt. 100. South on 100, east on 107, East on 14, North/East on 132 which takes you over near where you want to be to get 25a and stick with the rest of your plan. :D You'll like it.
Is anyone interested in a run to White Horse Press on Friday? We could order in some pizza (ahead of time) and make it a lunch stop and cruise the warehouse full of gear much like we did last year. That worked well before, but is somewhat weather dependent due to having to eat outside on the picnic benches.

Sure, sounds like fun, there's always stuff over there that I can find to "lust" over
BTW: I'm up for joining the "slow" group also. I'm just getting "friendly" with the Wing, so I don't feel real comfortable yet pushing it out to it's limits. It's a good bike and I've pushed it a little, but not yet up to your standards Greg - LOL.
Plus I just came off a 2200 mile Nova Scotia trip, so I feel more like just riding around and seeing some sights more than I do racing thru the curves for this trip. Maybe scoot up thru Dixville Notch and take a look at the Balsams, etc.
So, if anyone is putting together a slow group for the weekend, let me know and I'll "fall in" with you guys.

Steve, if it's a small enough group we could also swing over to Cafe Noche in Conway, cool place and great eats for reasonable $.
Your a wise man to take time getting to know your new ride... my personal feeling is that it takes a real 3000+ miles of relatively active, deliberate exploration (practice) to get to know a bike well enough to ride it proficiently above 7-8/10ths. I didn't really start reaching beyond that pace with the Sprint until after I got the feel for the second set of skins, around 4500 miles. Now at about 11K I'm very comfy with the current set up (Diablo Stradas are a great match) and regularly let the rear slide a little on very aggressive cornering exits... in very selective environments. I like being very familiar with where that point is, and comfortable enough with it as to not react poorly if I have to go there unexpectedly.
I don't ride the ST13 that hard anymore... I used to, and decided to explore the Sprint as a more capable (safer) tool for selective exploration of my limits. I'll be riding the ST13 next week and keeping my pace to no more than 8/10ths for the most part... with an occasional reach when the perfect curve and set of conditions to do so are presented. :D
I'm betting you're already pretty familiar with the area, but glad to offer some suggestions. Have you checked out my shared routes (http://www.grouprider.com/profile.php?action=viewmemberprofile&memberid=3077) on group rider yet? The NNESTOC I '05 route (http://www.grouprider.com/routes.php?action=viewroute&routehash=d4dedf17d012345a7d832c010ff71f2f) is a very scenic run along the rivers split by a westerly run through Dixville Notch, and a good full day at a moderate pace... maybe just the ticket! If you are interested in leading or gathering a small group I'm sure you will get some takers for that one.

Yah, yah - Cafe Noche - I forgot all about that when you said Whitehorse  You know, you get visions of "farkles" dancing in your head and everything else disappears :). Sounds like a plan and if we're still on for Putney VT., we'll work something out Wednesday depending on the group size that wants to go.
Getting to "know" the new ride is part of the fun ;) Even though I like to "push" a little at times, I really got the Wing so I could "slow down" and enjoy the ride a little more :) We'll have to see if that philosphy works out or not ;) Besides, I haven't figured out how to shift my weight effectivly in that seat yet - LOL
I don't have access to that site your rides are on, but I was thinking 112 to 16, 16 to West Side Road to avoid N. Conway and then back to 16, then up 16 to 26 thru Dixville and back down 3 would make a nice run. It's about 200 miles and should allow time to do the Mt. Washington auto road if we leave early (those who want to drop off there could) and if the weather co-operates. Maybe even lunch at the Balsams if we're feeling "fancy" - LOL.
I've never been lead on a "ride" before, but would certainly try if there are people up for it. I'm usually the "sweep" guy to help out those in distress on these types of runs, but the new Wing has "Nav" so I can't get too lost and I'm game for anything that makes for a great weekend for EVERYBODY - LOL.
Anything else I can do along the way, let me know.

Steve,
Putney is in the air... and if it tanks it's just another excuse for us to get out again in Sept! :D Oh, the pain! I may need to scrap starting out in a southerly direction to get to Maine to pick up maps for the group - which will still be a great ride... but I also may hammer that out on the Sprint Tuesday... weekday after the holiday ends on the Kanc... limited enforcement, hmmm... WHEEEEEEEE!
I can coach you on the leading process, it's mostly common sense which overlooking the Wing thing ;) (and IT begins... :D) I'm quite confident you posses an abundance of. Let Mark ride your 6 as he's real solid and will ride a safe ride with his bride on pillion and be a great pace metric for you to use. Having a GPS on group rides is a lot like having a truck when one of your friends has to move... :please1:
You should register on grouprider, there is some good stuff there... registration is painless and has no bad after taste.
I can also spend some time coaching you on some different ways to explore shifting your centerline, on larger bikes I tend to find the rotational approach is often a more workable and less physical method than a more hung off position... I'll have to see how you fit on the bike. At the very least we can get you flowing your upper body and maybe even exploring a subtle flop in your entry to quicken up your turns a bit. That bike will turn, no doubt about it.
I'll try to make a PDF of that route and post it... similar to yours with a little twist to get you around N. Conway, and then down the west side of the CT to 2, and some other cool stuff below that. If not I'll show you on a map.

I'm interested in what 105 is like west of Lake Memphremagog from Newport to Sheldon. Anyone been there and is it worth seeing?

Just go into my shared routes and look at 'too long loop'... I scouted that area pretty hard two years ago.
My VT atlas has 105 from East Berkshire to Newport marked in blue, meaning not bad, nothing real special, but not bad. 242 and 109 to the south a wee bit is lined in green, means DO IT AGAIN, and a small note to the effect of WAHOO! Hope that helps :D

Maybe Doc... shouldn't be too much traffic that weekend, but still maybe more than a weekday. I'll probably do a big west loop, 400ish miles, on Thursday. Then I'll probably do a big northeast loop (Rangeley) Saturday. Friday is the only day you'll be up that WHP will be open.
As long as I don't overstuff the group count me in for WHP ride on Friday.

Greg, since it looks like we're not meeting in Putney on Wednesday for ribs :( , I think I'll leave the house in Northwood early and run SW down Rte 9 to have breakfast somewhere near Keene, then head up Rte 5 along the Vermont side of the upper valley to Lake Memphremagog. From there I can catch the Eastern end of Rte 105 down to Rte 3 in North Stratford and then run Rte 3 down thru Lancaster and Whitefield into Lincoln.
I haven't been up thru the Connecticut River Valley since spring and it should make for a nice peaceful ride to get up there if the weather is good. I like going thru all those little Vermont towns along the way and traffic shouldn't be too bad on a mid-week day.
Besides that, I might even find a D.Q. or two to stop in along the way for lunch and a mid-ride snack

Just go into my shared routes and look at 'too long loop'... I scouted that area pretty hard two years ago.
My VT atlas has 105 from East Berkshire to Newport marked in blueGreg - :hun1:  :shrug2: Maybe I need more coffee or something. :coffee1: I'm don't see your shared route covering anywhere on 105 west of Newport.
I'm thinking of incorporating that western portion of 105 along with parts of the "West Loop" If anyone is interested in the same, that would be great.
Greg - Has Bear Notch Rd has been re-paved recently?
I know that last year it was heavily cratered and full of large frost heaves. Riding it was more like skiing slaloms. If it hasn't been recently re-paved then for anyone planing on following any of your shared routes should consider staying east on the Kank and taking Passaconway Rd. then north on West Side Rd instead. Passaconway and West Side Rd is nice and smooth and scenic. - Just a suggestion.

Greg - Has Bear Notch Rd has been re-paved recently?
I was over it earlier this year Al (around June) and it was still a mess and I don't think it was re-paved this year. I was already planning on using West Side if I went up that way to Mt Washington or Dixville. I haven't been on Passaconway this year, but I was on West Side a couple of weekends ago and it's in nice shape.

Al, my point was I have ridden it and didn't bother to include it due to there being much more enticing opportunities just to the south.
I haven't been on bear notch in a while, don't know... Passaconway is OK though. At the time I did some of the routes, the system (google/grouprider) kept telling me bear notch and passaconway were dead ends. I pretty much always use passaconway to west side, and then hurricane over to 113 and up through evans notch to get north. That stretch of 16 up to 2 sucks, too many cages and LEO's.
As long as I don't overstuff the group count me in for WHP ride on Friday.

We are going to do the White Horse on Friday but we may just make a very short day of it.
So don't add us to the count. Maybe find something local to do or even go back and use the pool.
Saturday I'm looking at the Rangeley Loop. I gonna shorten it but this year Maine is a must. I'll post my routes later.

Steve,
I have got to go up to the gringo center in Fryburg and pick up a pile (20) of ME maps... I think I'm good to go Tuesday which will give me a chance to check the condition of a few roads and offload some building hooligan steam finishing off my rear Diablo Strada on the Sprint before I have to be a responsible adult... uh, group leader :D If it looks like I'm going to get jammed up, I believe there is a gringo center in Kittery too, so if your available to back me up on Tuesday, that should keep us clear for Weds. :clap2:

- coming down the west side there is a cool way around Lancaster that takes you over an old covered bridge onto 135
- south of that there are some nice ways to cut the corner and see lots less traffic, DO THE SPEED LIMIT through Sugar Hill...
- off the kanc going east put you on passaconway to west side with the intension of taking you over Hurricane Mtn., but friggin google won't let me plot a point to take the route over that way :cus:
If your going to run east of 16, 26 is only so-so for riding and/or scenery from what I recall (which is going mach 3 down the lower stretch to get it over with :D). Consider hanging further east and going up 17, then west to Errol on 16. Or, just hang a left on 2 and take 16 up the west side of the river.

26 through Grafton Notch SP is pretty nice, but you're right...the part between Sunday River and 113 ain't so great. I'm thinking of running it CW. So, if anything, I'll cut it short and hit 16 in Errol like you suggest and maybe hit 110A which is a fun little road.

Thinking about a 9am start Friday. Hit White Horse via the Kanc-Passaconway-Westside-HurricaneMt-WhiteHorse.
Then lunch. Maybe Cafe Noche not sure how Mexican food goes with riding :)
Up Westside to 302-3-116-112-KML maybe see that Flume if time permits.
Posting my route in gdb and gpx.
Its now 150 miles for the day. This should leave plenty of time for stops.

The original Rangeley Loop is 298 miles gps calcs at 6:43 without stops.

I won't hold that against you :) My late wife's old family farm is in Raymond just outside Pawtuckaway on Rte 156 - in fact I go right thru there on my way to work everyday as I go from Northwood down to Windham - LOL
Rte 156 is a nice little "bike" road and I like Raymond. My step-son went down there a couple of years ago to re-dedicate the Civil War monument in the town square. His great, great grandfather was the one who raised the funds to put it up in the first place.
Small world sometimes - LOL
Alright... we have some groups gelling up and offering some good variety. So far it looks like this:
Thursday:
GRN taking a longish west loop through the Green Mtn. Gaps, across the Northeast Kingdom, and back down along the CT river ending up on the westernish end of the Kanc one way or another back to Lincoln.
Friday:
GRN taking a full day ride to the east that will include stops at White Horse Press and Cafe Noche in mid ride for some shopping and lunch. If there is time and interest we could even swing by Castle In The Clouds.
billxp will be taking a shorter ride that will also that will include stops at White Horse Press and Cafe Noche in mid ride for some shopping and lunch.
northeastrider will be riding up Mt. Washington (weather permitting) with destinations beyond that yet unknown...
Saturday:
Ulyrider will be taking a nice scenic tour of the CT River valley, Dixville Notch, and Grafton State Park encompassing a nice mix of NH, VT and ME. He'll be two up and keeping a moderate pace for those looking for a relatively relaxed pace.
GRN will be riding to Rangeley for lunch via Evans Notch and ME 17... then back into NH and over Dixville Notch and back down however it works out for time... it's a longer ish route, and the pace will reflect that when the appropriate environments present themselves
billxp is working on a shorter version of the ride above.
For those looking for a nice half day twisty ride through rural NH, check out the "short west loop" in my shared routes (http://www.grouprider.com/profile.php?action=viewmemberprofile&memberid=3077).

I am thinking about an Erol route for Friday and possible Mount Washington if weather ok. Slower pace with picture stops if we see any. So far Kim and I and possibly Strep. We are meeting up on Thursday night to map things out...

H2OSKIER. I'm leaving Tuesday heading all the way to Canada/New York border. Cross over to Maine. Head to Baxter State Park.
My question is What has the temps been at night? Plan 25 degree bag. Bring liner.
Weather something you deal with on the road.
Might see you there. Thanks BoB :04biker:

Just called White Horse Press.
They are open Saturdays. They extended it for fall foliage season.
I may be switching plans now. Rangeley Loop 290 miles on Friday and the short 150 mile route on Saturday.

25 degree bag and long johns as a addition if needed should be more than enough unless you are going to hike to high summit altitudes. Here's the 10 day for Millinocket (http://www.weather.com/weather/tenday/USME0249?from=36hr_topnav_undeclared), I would be real surprised to see below freezing temps... even the Mt. Washington summit forecast doesn't suggest anything extreme in the near future. Hope to see you in Lincoln, have a great ride.

Good call, bro :clap2:... I took the info on the web site as gospel, almost called and then didn't bother. Saturday is the better day for the shorter routes for sure. I'll be flopping my plans for those days as well. I'll update the list... maybe start a 'routes' thread to keep that piece as isolated and easy to follow as possible.
There is now a thread (http://www.st-owners.com/forums/showthread.php?p=534047#post534047) to keep all route and ride info consolidated...

Greg:
My wife Judi and I will be leaving tomorrow morning for a 1700 mile tour of Northern New England. We are heading up to Fort Kent, Madawaska area, then on to Moosehead and Jackman. We will be visiting my brother in West Swanton, VT then accross to NNESTOC, then to Bethel. We will be at NNESTOC on Thursday afternoon. Unfortunatly we will only be staying for the one night. We are hoping to sit around the campfire on Thursday night, and maybe ride with some ST people for a little before heading to Bethel on Friday. We will be at the New England Riders birthday bash at the River View in Bethel, ME for the rest of the weekend. It is too bad both of these events are on the same weekend.
I'm suddenly on hold for this ride :hun1:
I was headed out to the lake house for a long weekend yesterday afternoon. Fifteen miles into the ride, the red FI light lights up and the trip odometer starts flashing FI. The bike loses power and start spittin' and sputtering. Badly. Pulled over and shut her down for a minute. Turned the key and had a heck of a time getting it started.
Luckily, I was only about 5 miles from the dealer where I bought it. Limped it there. Had all the characteristics of a bike running very rich. Sounded and ran horribly. Almost no power turning nearly 4K at 40MPH. Got it to the service shop and handed the keys to the Service Manager. He had a tough time getting it started. Not likely a bad batch of gas since this tank had about 50 miles on it.
So, they are tearing into it now. The first thing he asked about was the TFI box, of course. We'll see what they say. He said it seemed like one cylinder was flooded. I'm hoping they call this morning to tell me it's all set and covered under warranty! They had an '09 on the floor and the owner told me he'd cannibalize that one for parts for me to get this resolved ASAP. My fear is that I have a hardware failure in the Stage 1 mods, in which case Ken is left holding the bag and ordering replacement parts next week.

Ken - Wow! I feel for you man. I wish you the best of luck and hope it all works out in the end.
The ECM showed an error code for the #2 injector. The #2 cylinder was flooded and the plug was fouled. They replaced the plug, put it all back together (with the TFI box) and it's running fine. They took it for a 10-mile test ride, brought it back, let is sit for an hour, and fired it up again with no problem. They are pretty certain the TFI box caused the problem but now I'm faced with an intermittent problem from a piece of electronics. I've left a message for Dale Walker to inquire on having it replaced while it's still under warranty. Hoping it can be replaced this week, but the holiday may make that challenging. I'm just not enthused about doing a 1000 mile ride with an intermittent electronics problem :)
BTW - the dealer charged me $100 for the diagnosis, and replacement of the fouled plug. They spent about 90 minutes on it altogether and I'm thankful they were so good about the whole thing. It helps that I've bought 5 bikes from this shop!

Phil, I'm riding to Oquossoc on Friday... over hurricane mtn and up through Evan's Notch, 2, ME 17, etc. if you want to tag along until you have to peel off.
Yeah, there's a big VFR group meet the same weekend down in West Leb too (an odd location if you ask me...). It's a great time of year for an event.
Ride safe, dude :)

Weather, Nice Friday, rain Saturday and Sunday!!!!!!! Darn......
Here's what NOAA has to say, although I don't put too much stock into a forecast until we're 24-48 hours away. It looks like Hanna may be determining the chance of precipitation.
Thursday: A slight chance of showers before 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 79. North wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Thursday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 62. East wind between 6 and 8 mph.
Friday: A slight chance of showers. Partly cloudy, with a high near 87. South wind between 9 and 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Friday Night: A slight chance of rain. Partly cloudy, with a low around 64. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Saturday: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a high near 78. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
Saturday Night: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 59. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Sunday: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Hey, it wouldn't be a STOC event if we didn't have rain!
See you folks on Thursday!

Well, I've killed a tank of gas since it's been back from the dealer. No problems, knock on wood. I'm going to roll the dice and go for it. I'll have some tools on hand in case I need to bypass the TFI and let the ECU take over the FI duties, and some Suzuki dealer POI's in the StreetPilot. Dale Walker has been tremendous. He sent an email last night with a few things to double check before the ride, and I'll tend to that tonight.
If all goes well, I'll be heading out at 7AM which should get me into Lincoln at about 4PM.
And the latest forecast courtesy of NOAA doesn't look too bad!
Friday: Partly sunny, with a high near 83. South wind between 5 and 11 mph.
Friday Night: A chance of showers. Patchy fog after 2am. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 54. South wind between 5 and 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Saturday: Showers likely, mainly after 2pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 71. South wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Saturday Night: Rain likely. Cloudy, with a low around 52. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
Sunday: A chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 67. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
So I went through Dale's checklist tonight which included pulling the plugs for inspection. Number 2 is fouled again. The universe is working against me and I'm afraid this ride is just not in the cards for me.
I have a room reserved with the Motor Lodge and was splitting it with STrep (Anthony). He is camping tonight and were going to room together Friday and Saturday nights. I will call him on his cell phone but if anyone sees him ahead of time, tell him the room is all his. I will still pay my half though, unless someone else needs a bed. I think I'll get dinged for the room if no one uses it though, so put it to good use as needed! :)
Sorry gang. :(
Hi Gang,
Will be up Friday night around 8:00 pm, riding solo. Rode thru the area last week with the wife and the thought of rain is just not for her. So, have room for a bunk mate for anyone needing a place to stay.

Well, you guys are likely in or rolling in by now. Got dumped on with rain all day here, but I think you all escaped it OK for the most part, so long as you stayed in NH or headed towards ME. You'll be wet for a bit heading home but it should be clear south and west tomorrow. I've been working on the house thinking of everyone getting to ride NH, sigh. I'm looking forward to the photos though.

Talk about the weather cooperating, I caught a little drizzle when I started home but the rest of the weekend was just about perfect. It was great meeting up with old friends and meeting new ones. I just got in around 4:50 pm after riding down the Western side of NH.
112 to 118, to 25, 25A, 10, 12, 123, 202, 122, 56, and then home. Around 870 miles total.
Greg,
I said it before we left, but thanks again for setting this up. I'm already looking forward to Vermont next year.
Steve:04biker:
btw. I stayed on NH on the way home, and you were right about some of the traffic and stuff. Hanover wasn't a problem, but a bit South of there was some stop and go traffic. Also crossing under 89 for a mile or so. I found 123 and took that to 202 and found that to be a nice road. No traffic, nice turns and decent road.

Home safe and sound... 1058.4 for the weekend (not including the 250+ on Tuesday to pick up maps :)), not bad for living the closest ;), never got wet.
Organizing an event near good riding at a fitting establishment is all I did, which has very little to do with the quality of the experience. The folks that come and share that time together are what makes it what it is... year after year, event after event, you folks that come to this and other STOC events that I attend and you humble me, you're the best :clap2:
NNESTOC V '09... let's just say the Green Mtn. gaps won't be a full day ride next year :D.
