The dates for OnSTOC2008 :biker: :04biker: :03biker: :07biker: :policeST: :06biker: are Thursday Aug21-Sunday Aug24 and I have blocked out the entire motel complex at Jocko's Beach Resort in Calabogie as OnSTOC central. This place really suits the bill with 11 motel efficiency units with two queen beds , a kitchenette in each several BBQ's and to top it off there is a fire pit with a nice view of Calabogie Lake . There is also a campground just down the road and the Calabogie Motor Inn just down the road in case we need additional rooms. The units rent at $89 per night at both places so it is reasonably priced. I hope the dates work for everyone as it is really tough finding accomodations this time of year and this is the only weekend available in July and August in this area. We also checked out some fantastic roads today within a few miles of this place and I promise you won't be disappointed. Please let me know if you can make it for these dates so that I can call the motel owner and confirm. Once that is done ,the rooms can then be booked on an individual basis and shared as needed ...booking info will be supplied later. Room deposits will be required in January to confirm.
This place is so nice that Sam and I are booking one of their chalets for a week in July so that we can do some pre-riding in the area.

You are right Bob ...one of the better sportbike roads in Eastern Ont is the 511 up to Calabogie and then there is the 508 and 65 along the Madawaska River:D I guess if we can get some rodent carcases it will be the same:eek: and we can officially call it Animal House II.

The original plan was to book the lakeside house but they only rent the houses and chalets by the week in July and Aug. as did all the other resorts I contacted and you do not want to be in this area in May due to the blackflies.

Hey Ray, I took that ferry back in the nineties. I was in a cage with the family. It was nice. I didn't know why it was stopped. Now I do. See you at ONSTOC II!
Chris, I was only kidding, no need to explain. I figured it was some kind of deal like that.
Riding around town now just isn't the same. I am truly spoiled by all this. But I'll get by until the STOC events get going next year.

Looks like this event is really shaping up with lots of familiar faces and some new ones too. Its great to have Cape Breton represented as well and I just hope our Ontario roads can measure up to the Cabot Trail.
I spoke to the owner of the Lodge to discuss reservations and we will need deposits early Jan. to hold your rooms. I will post a reminder early next year to start the process and also details for the campsite and the other motel just down the road.

Don't worry, I will take Eddie aside and explain the reasons why he doesn't need one, for the power & torque are just 2 cylinders more, and the main reason for not getting one is the requirement for a huge chrome & accessory budget. Oh yeah, and the pegs scrape a lot in the corners when you're pretending to be an ST or a Triumph.........

Steve, Everyone is looking after their own rooms and we will decide on the food costs once we get a bit closer. Do you need a room or are you sharing? All the rooms at Jockos are booked up but there are still rooms at the Calabogie Motor Inn a mile or so up the road, if you need one. Contact info is in the OnSTOC2008 lodging thread.

It'll be great to meet you in person Jeff. Calabogie Motorsports Park is just around the corner from where we are staying so that is probably the track the BMW riders are using. It is a really nice track and only a year old and there might be some options for track time there.
Shannonville is about 15 mins from our place in Napanee but about 2hours from Calabogie.

Anyone ever been here? http://www.diefenbunker.ca/ I think its on the Calabogie side of Ottawa - maybe a hour.
If a ride gets close to Ottawa and its time for a break I wouldn't mind seeing it - as long as a tour could be done in about an hour. I'd rather ride.
No worries really - just a thought on what might be an interesting diversion. It's something I've always thought I wanted to see - & will someday.

Bob, let me know what you are planning. I'll meet up with your group on Wed for sure.
Space is available at the cabin for anyone else who would like to get this started early.
I've invited Carl and Dawn to stay with me for the week but I think they need some convincing. Come on guys, you know you want to do it.:D:D:D

John, work just won't let us accept this time, even though a lake, friends, a bike, exploring, some extra time lounging, some swimming, a book, maybe a campfire if they let you, a couple beers at night, that's our idea of the best of times. :) Maybe we could plan for it next year.

I'm changing tires for PASTOC right now, fun fun fun. :( but it will actually be fun when it's done :) Looking forward to seeing you and Sam, Chris.
John, if it's going to be nearby "the" (or "a") lake next year, we'll have to plan on a lake cabin and some extra time next year for sure. You'll be scoping it out this time and can report whether the cabin and lake was good or not. We'll be thinking of you by the water while we work:mad::)

I'm in the same boat, my PR's are at about 5500, and not enough left for much more than a real healthy day ride (6K seems to be the limit of everything I've tried on the ST13 except the 021's which turned to total unevenly worn crap at about 4500)... a relatively dry one at that. I'm checking to see if I can get the Stradas, if not I'll probably go with the PR2's. Stradas have been great on the Sprint, and holding up surprisingly well for a single compound that offers as much grip as these do.

They don't make the Strada in the ST sizes or I would have tried them already!
Steve, they make them, but have yet to offer them in North America from what I understand... just hoping for some good luck.
My general route plan (http://www.grouprider.com/routes.php?action=viewroute&routehash=c53ecea1f0b3d62a25beb5afa3f03471) to and from ONSTOC is listed in my "shared Routes" in my profile on GroupRider if anyone is interested in hooking up along the way... I worked Tracey road into the mix :D

I'm glad I'm not the only one who can only get 6K out of a set of tires.
I've got almost 4K on the PR2's and they are wearing fast on the sides but lots of meat in the center so I will have to ride more slab... not.
I will probably be in for new rubber after ONSTOC.
See you in a few weeks.
Chris - I should have had PR2's this time around... 2500 miles of slab (more than I have done in the last 10 years combined) to Moonshine and back really killed the center of the PR's. I have tried to be a bit ginger with them on shorter day rides and strait line accel to stretch them out, but to no avail. With single compound tires I usually get thin on the sides first, about 1/3 to 1/2 of the way from the center to the outside edge, which is why I'm a little concerned how the PR2's are going to hold up... the last set of dual compounds I tried (021's) wore real funky in the density transitions, to the point where I replaced then at about 4500 because the handling went deeply into the crapper, especially the front.
The roadsmarts seem to have a progressive transition of compound density, which might work well for me. One of my concerns for those, as well as the PR2's, is the grip of the higher density compound on center... Carl has put them both to the test and has had traction failure that he didn't expect during hard braking... more so with the fronts on the roadsmarts which is why I'm not even considering them at this point.
I may give the Storms another chance... they wore funny on the Sprint and had to come off early due to it adversely effecting the handling... I don't know. I wish the darn Strada's had sizes to fit, they have been awesome on the Sprint, and look like they will outlast the 020's and Storm's that have been previously run... :(
Sorry for the :th1:... this isn't a tire thread :)

I was just wondering that if there was a few people interested in the Diefenbaker bunker tour, maybe we should coordinate a time with everyone and go together instead of possibly separate. Is anyone interested in going? On what day? Maybe those interested could go and do the same ride route too. Or, should we just leave it for everyone to do on their own. Just thinking out loud! :)

Although I'm largely ambivalent about seeing the diefenbunker, I'd go along with a wee group so we could all admire, or mock it, together!
We'll have to wait a bit to see if there's any further interest.
I think Saturday would be the better day, cause Friday folks'll be fresh and just want to ride. Also, some "better late than never" types won't arrive at our magnificant rally until Friday.
By the way, when is it we all storm parliament hill? Saturday midnight?
