I was having problems with Bunions and achilles tendon so had to stop wearing my Alpinestar boots. Loved those boots and used them for 6 years. Found I needed wider boots and had to start wearing custom orthotics. Most of the motorcycle boots never felt wide enough so I have been wearing hiking boots. I always wanted to see a Cabela's Store and finally had a chance while in Phoenix. They had some good waterproof boots, but the ones that really grabbed me were Danner Striker Goretex boots. Supposedly used by Police and look like something a Swat team would wear. They came in EE width and were really comfortable, laced up, and had zippers on the sides. Used them last month on a ride through Montana and have never had such comfortable boots. Getting into them is easy with the zipper sides and the lace up front allows you to make them as tight or loose as you want. See them here:

I will take you up on that. I usually go to Phoenix at least once in the winter. So I'll contact you next time I head that way. I retired from Alaska Airlines so get to fly free, and I usually head for Phoenix, Tucson, Las Vegas and San Diego every winter to get some sun. Also I have to dry out from Seattle to prevent permanent webbed toes. :)

Webbed feet... So I've heard...
My brother moved from Santa Barbara to Ferndale WA and his children followed him and are in Bellingham. But whenever Chris and I show up they are always complaining about how hot it is... :nuts1: :)
Let me know...

Ahh ... someone else with duck feet !
I have 10 EEE feet.
I found a pair of Altimate riding boots. They are so confortable. I bought them when I was riding my Hayabusa , and STill wear them today. I have worn them through all weather without a complaint.

Fat feet here too - 11.5 EEE. I have worn Red Wings and another logging-type boot. But my most recent purchase has been Cruiserworks. They are mostly the Harley-type boots, but they have a couple of models that are pretty normal looking. I wear them to work every day, and they blend pretty well.
One of the reasons I went with them was that I was convinced about their customer service if something went wrong. The model that I really wanted only came in EE, but I tried it out. Too narrow. They replaced them for me, no problem at all. I have the Men's Side Zip.
They are all waterproof (I have not really tested that feature yet), and some models come in EEE.

They were expensive at $189. You can buy them on the Cabela's website using the link I included at the beginning.

Don't know what part of Jersey you're from, but there's a Cabelas in Hamburg PA, a little north of Reading on Rt 61, maybe a nice day trip for you? Little advice though, if at all possible, go on a weekday, they get awfully busy on the week-ends. And with fall hunting seasons coming on, probably the worst time of year to go.
I got a pair of their own brand boot, Gore-tex, insulated, leather and nylon, basic black for $60. Great for riding in, not a walk-all-day boot, but for the money a good deal. And I take a wide boot too.
Good Luck!

Depending on size they are going $100 to $120 on ebay and you might save $60 plus

I purchased those exact boots (Danner Stryker GTX) this past spring for riding. I love em! I got them a bit wider than normal for wearing thick wool socks when winter riding. The side zip is great for on/off quick!
Some Danner boots are made here in Portland, OR. These particular boots are not, they come from overseas. Anyone in the Portland area can find them at the Danner sales warehouse on Airport Way. They have a huge selection of styles and sizes, much more than retail stores.
For anyone that may want to contact them for orders, their info is........

Hey George I went to their website and found the Hamburg store..its abt 106 miles from me.I already have a rte planned and if the weather holds tomrw I will head up there. In 2008 Cabelas is planning to open Huge store in Rutherford,NJ as part of the new Meadowlands sports complex known as Xanadu. For now though it looks like Hamburg is it.I am undecided on if I will buy their brand or the Danner's.
Imrubicon...Thanks for the heads up..I generally do not like e-bay but I will look anyway..couldn't hurt....but in general I like being able to try things on in a store.Nowadays with things being made in other countries the sizing is all wrong. What used to be a size 9.5 is now a 10.5 so you cant just order stuff like the old days.:(

I've got to say these Bates that I bought from the Working Persons Store have been great. Maybe not 100% waterproof, but comfortable, long lasting, and a great price.

Unlike motorcycle boots I've owned the Danner Striker GTX boots are comfortable for long walks.
