I wonder how comfy this new seat is and did you see the cool rear seat/trunk? I can't use the trunk, but it looks nice.

I wonder if the smuggler trunk gets in the way of a topcase. Specifically the Honda case.

From this picture, you might be right. I'm not interested in the trunk anyway, but that front seat is nicely priced.

A farkle I could settle into  I also wonder if the back would fit under the brkt of the Givi top box ? Guess someone should call Corbin and get the scoop . If it did fit that would make a sweet combo on or off :D Very interesting .

Even if it fit with the Givi plate on it (or the Hondaline one), it would be hard as hell to open with the key hole facing rearward like that...besides, I like being able to strap things to my back seat if I need to.
The seat on the other hand does look like it would be comfortable (and no taller than the stock one from what it says)...and priced pretty decent.

What about the heated option? Is that something that you consider important? Most of my riding is in the South (Louisiana) but I have family in Canada so I plan on some long trips. :money1: :hotpepper

Really nice looking but think you guys are right that from the photo it doesn't look like it will work with a top box.

All I know is a front seat for 239 is a great deal... But, how does it look with the stock rear seat? I don't personally like the trunk, if I want a trunk I want one that will fit a laptop.
If they'd also provide a rear pass seat for maybe $50 more.... they would probably take over the ST1300 seat market... :spank1:

I'm not a fan of corbin, but thats a good looking setup. The Trunk is expensive tho. Anybody know how does the seat feel when your leaning hard compared to stock? And does the heated seat really help?
Thanks,

With regard to the heated option cheHEATED SEAT??? (http://www.st-owners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2550&highlight=heated+seat) ck out this link.

If you look at this animated gif it appears to look ok with the stock rear portion. If I decide to get one and it doesn't look good, I'l just take the rear to an apolstery shop and have them put a new cover on to match. They wouldn't need to do any foam work, so it shouldn't be too expensive.
As far as the heated option costing $200 on the full size version of their seat, your probbly right I wouldn't think it would be worth it. But, on this version it's only $50 more so if I get one.....It's gonna have heat!

Anyone know if that Corbin trunk will fit with either the Honda or Givi bracket in place?

Unless someone beats me to it I'll post a pic of the Honda Top Box mount without the Top Box once I get home from work. Should be able to eyeball it from looking at the Corbin ad pics... It looks like it will fit....

Well let's see, $239 no heater or $299 with heater.
It's only $60 dollars more with the heater.
I'd have to be :22yikes: crazy not to get the heater.
Even if I only use it once or twice a year it would be worth it.
Yes indeed it's the front seat with heater for me. Time to call Corbin.

A nice backrest would make riding more comfortable but it looks to be too far rearward to be of much help. I don't have that fat of an *** to make use of it. It may not be as far back as it looks. Has anyone sat on it?

The seat looks like it is tilted like the stock seat and thus have a sliding forward issue like the stock.

I wouldn't get the heated seat simply because I have heated gear. The rear truck looks cool. I might look into that.

I'm thinking the smuggler just might clear the top box. It should fit as the two forward mouting bolts can be seen with it on and you can see it with the top box as well.
The key entry for the lock appears to be vertical as shown in the pic below.

Not sure if the door will clear the top box, it might be close but if I had to guess I'd say I think it will..

I must have been looking at it wrong. The key hole is verticle.

Could I assume that the trunk part would fit with a Russell front seat?
My plan is to ride to Shasta soon and get a Russell seat, but I sure like the look of the Corbin, and the price is much better than Russell. I have never been a fan of their seats, but if I bought the front seat I suppose I could turn around and resell it for not much loss. What say ya'll :chat1:

I E-mailed Corbin with the question of the Smuggler fit with the Givi/Honda box & brackets . Corbins R&D people say the bracket should work but the lid opening & closing of the lid might be close . I don't think I'd use both together since the Smuggler would be great for around town and could be changed to the Givi for a longer trip . Sounds like a versatile combo .
Thie is sounding better as I think more on it .

I would want to know for sure before forking out that kind of cash. You would think their R&D people would have thought this question would come up. In fact, with the amount of people that have the topbox, they would have designed around it if they could.

The trunk is just too cool. I'll be interested in hearing some first hand feedback. Having just sprung for a Givi, I doubt my better half would let me buy one of these, despite the millions (slight exageration, but only slight) that she's pumped into her VROD.

I originally posed the question since the smullger could replace the small tank bag I use on multi-day rides. Because of the tank handlerbar situation on the 1300 I have a Cortech mini magnetic tankbag. The smuggler has the same volume but is locked to the bike. All I use the tank bag for is to wallet, cell phone, camera, butt powder, asprin, snacks, etc... I normally leave the topcase empty so I can put my helmet and tankbag inside. This way overpriced item presents another option.

Curmudgeon,
If you haven't already done so, you might want to call Russell on their toll-free number and reserve a date for a ride in appointment. I was on the phone with them Friday and the only date they had until sometime in April was March 30. I will be there at 8 AM on the 30th. They charge an extra $80.00 for the ride in as they basically devote most of the day to making your seat. Don't waste any time. They get busy quickly this time of the year.

I picked up my 2005 in late January, and immediately got an appointment for May 11. I figured that would give me time to decide if the stock seat was good enough. I found the stock seat to be OK, but have decided the Russell would be much better. So I called this morning and moved my ride-in appointment up to April 13. Hopefully the weather between Seattle and Shasta Lake will cooperate.
I rode in last summer and had this seat made for my ST1100. The best long distance seat I have ever had.
Well I have an 05...with Honda top case. I just placed my order for the smuggler trunk...I am using a seargent front and rear right now. When it gets in I will see if this works with the top box. Though for my use...it will be an either or choice.

Well I just ordered the seat, they said I should have it in about 2 weeks. . After riding 2000 miles on the stock seat in the last four days I had to make a change. Hopefully this will solve the problem. I will post pics and impressions after I have had some time on it.

Don & Sherob, just to let you know:
The US banks will accept personal cheques/checks from the UK written in sterling (pounds). This means that you shouldn't have to go through any hassle with amex/bankers drafts etc. Just write a regular cheque in the UK and post it to whoever in the US. The bank than does the Exchange (albeit slightly lower than the standard rates- as usual!!) and bingo, the money is in US$$.
How do I know ? I wrote a cheque from my NatWest account in the UK and depositied it in my BankOfAmerica account her in the US.
Ker-ching $$$$

Ok Bro how is this going to work? Could I order the and pay direct from Corbin and have them delivered to your address? then you could send them to me (I'll send the shipping cost to you - any idea how much that would be?) If you don't think its such a good idea thats ok, no problem :capwin:

One small minus detail with the Smuggler . It will not open with the GIVI box . For me not a big deal as I had half expected that . Otherwise I could'nt be happier with this fine Corbin product . Expect the seat in about a week . :04biker:
