Joe,
Besides unlimited snow, can you give me the lowdown on where to camp, how to make arraingments and so on, basically play tour guide for the noobs to the Big Bend area.

I was considering the Alpine inn as my primitive campsite until I realized how many rides I want to do this year.

Got the tent, got the bag, got my pad. Gonna figure out how to get them and me on the bike and off we go.

Route for me looks like the I-10 over to 67 South into Alpine, 787 miles by Mapquest.

Unfortunately, I have to stay in lafayette until about 7:30 on the 21st so I will be Houston bound that night, stay at my sisters and then an early AM pullout to cover the other 500 miles. Doable but rougher than I wanted it to be.

Chris, there's usually lots of campsites available at Davis Mtns State Park.

I've always had good luck getting a campsite near the southern section of the park by the bathrooms/showers. Also, the Indian Lodge Hotel is just a small walk away if you want to get breakfast.

Chris I live in Katy off I-10 and from here to Alpine is about a 9 hour ride.
Left Alpine last year after cheapSTOC and on the KTM 950 it was a 10 hour ride butt some of that was on hiway 90.

Dave,

Thnks for the feedback. As the Disorganizer, have you decided where you are going to ride on Friday?

I will probably be toast when I get in, But Saturday should be cool. Now that I know how long I am gonna be slabbing on Friday, I am going to start thinking Strategy rather than Tactics.

Maybe a real bed would be smarter....

Chris first I have to decide which bike I am taking.
If my wife goes I will take the ST1100 and on Friday ride the Fort Davis area and maybe make a sidetrip to Van Horn some good mexican food at Chuy's which has the John Madden hall of fame inside.
Then Big Bend park and the river road on Saturday.
Either way I will have some routes suggestions laided out .
