Okay, I've been working with Arroyo Seco Racetrack (http://www.asmaracing.com/index.html) near Deming and here's the skinny.

They're giving us a break on the per participant price. It's regularly $80 a person and we'll get it for $50 per person.

Please get you payment into them by February 8th to get the discount!

Woo hoo!

:D

Meanwhile, check out the DesertSTOC website (http://www.desertstoc.illzoni.com/) for more info!

OK, I voted (and it looks like I'm the only one who voted).

You're not the only one, just the :1st: one.

I'm in. I'd rather mix it up with the squids than have our own session but I'll go with the majority.

$80 is cheap, $50 is _really_ cheap!! Woo-hoo, Raven!

What are their prep requirements? All three times I've been on the track required dark taped lights, appropriate gear. Third time required no anti-freeze (water-wetter instead.)

What city is this DeserSTOC 08 held in?

Raven
10-10-2007, 09:12 PM
We're looking at either Deming, NM (only 17 miles from the track) or Silver City, NM (about 70 miles from the track but very near some awesome roads).

As far as track requirments go:
Glass needs to be taped
Coolant is okay
Bolts tight
Good tires
Cordura riding suit is fine

Bumping this since I know everyone is focussed on SeaSTOC and DesertSTOC is way out in the future! :)

Even if you're only kinda, sorta, thinking about maybe coming to DesertSTOC (even if it depends on the stars aligning and you winning the lottery to do it), go ahead and fill out the poll so I can start making whatever arrangements are needed!

Thanks!

I say you guys rent the whole track and have an all out race. Just to put an end to all this 'my color is the fastest' crap and once and for all prove that silver is fastest!:)

I'm sure the "red_riders" will see your tail lights as they lap the slow silver ones!
Come on out and prove me wrong!
Can't use that ol' "The campground is full" in Jan or Feb! :D

That's 3000 miles away!!!! There must be someone in AZ riding a silver one to represent!! He don't even need to ride that good.... the bike will compensate and take over!

See... I give you an excellent excuse to do some quality distance on a silver one and you balk... could it be that the silver ones just will not do the distance?

(now you know how I feel when those CT-STOC threads are active! :D)

Quality Distance.... in the desert? Isn't that an oximoron?

Depends which type of desert you're talking about... the 'deserts for ST riders in the U.S. are the slabs... lots of *great* roads in N.M., CO, AZ and UT... come on out and we'll show them to you! :D

Tsk, Tsk, 3000 miles on an ST is only 3 days saddle time. I shoveled snow off the street to go out there in February!!!! And they did show me some right nice roads in the desert. And it only got to 28 two nights in a row camped in the desert.

For some ST's it's only 2 days in the saddle! (Of course, those silver one's may take longer.....) :D

Oh come on Mac, you know you loved every freezing minute of it! Even while shivering under the stars you were thinking of how much macho mileage you could get out of "braving" the chill desert air - Survivorman's got nothing on you!

Thanks for the effort to get this track thing set up Raven. Ya know I don't think I'll be good enough to trust myself to put my 1100 through running on a track :o4: but I'm sure gonna go watch and support those that are there. I gotta see this......I'll be there.

Hey EJ,
That's part of the good thing about a track day (especially one that's divided up into sessions with our own separate ST session), you get an opportunity to go out and try things or work on specific skills in a fairly risk-free environment (no on-coming cars, clean pavement, etc.).

Feel free to just watch but you might find that you'll enjoy the riding experience as well. :)

I couldn't help myself, I voted for multiple events! You didn't have a category for two up though, Vicki will be pissed!

Well, it looks like there may be enough interest in playing at the track that I'll be looking at DesertSTOC lodging in Deming. I'm headed over to Deming in a couple of weeks for the LD Gathering and will see about setting up a location and possible discounts.

BTW, there's no reason folks couldn't decide to do BOTH Saturday and Sunday track days! :D

If you have *really* selected a date lets get this on to the event calendar...

Mark

Raven

+1 on getting it on the calendar - don't know why it isn't there....

Raven
11-20-2007, 06:18 PM
Sure, why not. It's a holiday weekend.

Mellow

Okay, I'll add it... If you can update the sticky post with maybe the track info as well that would put everything in one place, more or less.

I'm in for the track day. When, how to send money?

Raven
11-27-2007, 12:29 PM
Hey George,

Don't need advance money - just pay at the door.

Raven

Track Day payments are needed 7 days in advance of the track day.

So, mark February 8 on your calendar and get your payment in to the track by then.

Folks, just checked the track day info: requires taped lights, etc, _and_ Leathers! Just talked to Russ at the track and he says Aerostich _is_ gonna be acceptable for our separate group. That's good, I have leathers but most folks don't.

Everybody click the Arroyo Seco Racetrack (http://www.asmaracing.com/contactus.html) link, then click Track Days in the left column to read the requirements.

See ya there. :D

Raven
01-22-2008, 02:00 PM
Yep, I worked a deal with Russ and our cordura contingent is no problem despite them usually requiring leathers. We will need to tape but I'm bringing a big roll so we're good to go there.

Once again, our deal is $50 instead of the usual $80 but we need to get our $ in by February 8th.

It will definitely be a fun day!

Yeah!

Had a quick chat with Russ and he asked me to just put a note with my check indicating it was for the ST Track Day. Did - check is in the mail today. See ya there, and if my Silver isn't the fastest, it's the rider not the motor.

I'll be there on my ol' 91 silver, 160,000++ miles, in all her glory. Don't plan to let any other color _or model_ get too much of a lead. :D

Motored through Deming today on my way from Jacksonville to San Diego and it WAS WINDY. Man at the gas station said that "yes, we are in the windy season." I haven't seen the track, but if there's a steady 15-30mph wind it's going to be a little dicy. I'll try to follow those wiser then me around and maybe I'll learn somth'in.:D

But it gets better Satuday and especially Sunday:
