View Full Version : Heat Issue Fix - Maybe, We Will See!

I ordered a new set of inner cowls to do the venting. While looking at the right inner cowl I noticed the 3 slots cut for the horn sound to escape. I had noticed the left side of the bike produced more heat. Applying a little logic I decided the horn slots must allow enough air in the right side of the bike to help cool things down. I used the slots in the right innner cowl as a template to mark where the slots would be on the left inner cowl. I drilled 3 rows of 7 holes 7/16 inch diameter. I will update this post when I get another warm day to test the project. My thought is if Honda put 3 slots in the right inner cowl then it shouldn't hurt to slot or drill the left inner cowl.
I must admit mine has not been that hot! I do wear boots when I ride. I could see how shorts and flip flops might get a little hot.
Finally had a day when it got up to about 90. The heat was more balanced on the bike. Also the locked pocket doesn't get nearly as hot now. I am beginning to think if a few holes are good then more holes would be even better! I doubt I could do as nice of a job as some of you have but I haven't had too many people look up into the front of my ST1300.
Others have BTDT with poor results. :-( Keep us poSTed

Yea, that would have been me. The fairing off, just as hot.
Now, I have modified my lower cowls to see if it helps with the pockets and will report once I get back riding. Gotta install a horn first. :)
Oh, and I will try to fairing axtensions as well, because once it was explained that the heat would be direted away it made sense.
We are about to get into 100 plus degree days, you believe me I will have definitave results for everyone. :)

I don't think I'll care about a whistle if I get some cooler air on my legs!
I haven't ridden with this mod. yet due to knee surgery. By the time I'm recoverd I'm sure it will be 90+ and humid. Time will tell!
I am attempting to attach the .doc file I used to ma kemy templates.

Hmmm, this looks like a good way to maximize my air horn's volume levels. What does a set of these inner cowls cost anyway?

Each cowl (R. Inner and L. Inner) will cost $17.41 each at http://www.hondaonlineparts.com. I bought a set of spares before I started .... just in case

Starting to get some warmer weather, and I have to conclude that this mod. helps!
Not so much when sitting in traffic, but once you get going the heat pocket seems to dissipate faster.
So far I would classify my ride as hotter than the average motorcycle; but then again this isn't a naked sport tour it is a full fairing machine!
I'm thinking of adding the fairing extenders and calling it quits for heat control.
