There won't be much notice... odds are, it will just happen so don't be surprised if all of the sudden the site is on steroids. :hat1:

Guess the site won't be doing any Pro athletics any time after that (well, maybe baseball!!)
With the performance last night, I thought that maybe it was being upgraded then!
BTW, did you see the new Iomega Store Center NAS?? http://video.techrepublic.com.com/2422-13792_11-167071.html
1TB in an iddy-biddy box! Should be able to track all the DQ sales for a year with this!
Looking forward to the upgrade (but I know what a PITA it is to do it!)

What you need for stupendous database speed is an IOdrive. 640GB, solid-state storage, 100,000 IOPS, while doing 800MB/sec throughput of 4k random. Only $20k, available this December. <drool>

Joe, will you shut it down to make a full copy of the database ?
The way people post around here , it might be the only way to transfer it all.
just wondering .
I for one wont miss the TIME-OUTS. They are like "You have been a bad computer , go stand in the recycle bin"

The upgrade will occur tomorrow (Thursday 10/18) at 6:30 PM CST.
I don't expect the site to be down long, expecting less than 1 hr.. maybe more, maybe less, you just never know.
After this, the entire site will be colored Bright Metallic GL1800 Blue - because then we'll be on a FAST server...:nanner1:

I have a VIC-20 that I can donate for server use......

Hey, y'all. New guy here: I'm the server guy handling the build and move of the site. If you have any questions about the new setup, lemme know. There may be a couple of days of adjustments (tuning, etc) but by and large we've seen great success with the twtex.com site on this new machine.

What about Putt's generous offer to donate a VIC-20 to the cause, how will that play a part in tonight’s festivities?

I can't upload pictures because I'm over my quota for disk space.
Does this have anything to do with the upgrade, or do I need to dump some pictures?

You can either dump some pictures, or use a free picture hosting website like Picasa (http://picasa.google.com/), Photobucket (http://photobucket.com/), Tinypic (http://www.tinypic.com/) and just post the link in your post to your photos there.

That was a gallery limitation, I adjusted it so you should be fine.

I presume that this upgrade has taken place, or the threat of it has run off all the load (users), because the site is just vastly improved as of the timestamp of this message.

Howdy folks,
I am pleased to see that everyone is happy with the new changes!! It was a headache getting here, but hopefully we have laid the foundation for long term stability and growth for both of our sites. A HUGE thanks to Chris "wczimmerman" for helping with this whole process the last few months. I'd have been in a world of hurt without his help!
Ideally, this server has the growth potential to carry both Twtex.com and St-Owners.com for years to come. Right now we are running with dual 1.6Ghz quad core CPU's, 4GB Ram, two 73 GB 15K rpm boot drives (raid 1) and three 400GB 10K rpm data drives (raid 5). There is room for three more hard drives. There is room for 60 GB of additional RAM (64GB max), there is another Gigabit NIC sitting unused in the machine, and it can run up to 3.6Ghz dual Quad core CPU's. We also have the new server outfitted with a remote access card that allows us to do anything we could do if we were standing there in front of the server at the console. We can reboot, power down, install new software, monitor the status of the hardware, etc,... It has email notifications setup so that if anything goes out of whack, both Chris and myself are notified. We have also beefed up the security of the box to help with fending off hacking attempts and DoS attacks. We also have a three year, next day, on-site, parts replacement warranty in case anything craps out.
Thus far, I have received about $2300 in donations to cover the $4000 purchase price of the new machine. Here's the thread about it for anyone that might be inclined to pitch in ;-)
http://www.twtex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21467
Just to make sure everyone understands the new setup. I own the new server outright. Joe will be paying me a monthly fixed fee for leasing space, bandwidth, personal tech support, etc,... He has my home number and work number and I can be reached 24hrs/day. My goal is for both sites to have room to grow and be problem free as much as possible. Since anything that affects STO is likely to affect TWT as well, you can rest assured that we will be busting our backsides to get things taken care of in a timely manner.

It indeed works well.
Guess you didn't want to pop about $2500 for the X5365 chips just yet? ;)
May I ask where this system is co-located?

Just in case anyone was wondering, the system load shot through the roof today at about 08:00, but I suspect it was due to a database tool I was testing. We've been running for almost a week without an issue (with ST-OWNERS.COM) and it was only after I got out of that tool that the database activity went crazy. All is well again.

I love those 2x50 machines, but every time they come out with a new one, they make the $@#@&! things an inch deeper. They now no longer fit in the racks I have out in the field, so I've had to abandon them. HPaq, and IBM keep doing the same thing.
