OK, Here's what I did to replace my ratty-ol' OEM toolkit holder. I'm a "frugal" (cheap) kinda guy, and I also try to reuse/recycle whenever possible.

We had finished off a container of Kraft "Mayo" (in the new rectangular flip-top plastic container) which I had rinsed out for the recycling. It looked suspiciously handy. So I washed it out and placed it with my "inventory".

I was going over my recently acquired ST, checking out the contents of the toolkit and I thought "What can I replace the toolkit sleeve with, and get more tools into?" :!: Ding, the light turned on.

Grabbed the ol Mayo container and did a trial fit; YES, like a glove!

So I have all the original tools (I think), + needle nosed pliers, side-cuts, small amount of electrical tape, small spool of wire, tire "gummy worms" and both tools for them, swiss army knife, and a few other small odds-n-ends. I like the fact that the container is clear, makes it easy to see whats in it!

I used a long piece of 2sided velcro to secure the lid and stuck it all in the original location. Works GREAT!

Sure they do! You can fit the entire '06 tool kit in a disposable mayo pack... ;)

nyuk, nyuk!

Yeah, but what I REALLY wanted was a kit to fit the ST1300 MOTORCYCLE, not the ST1300 TOOL KIT. Shucks, I could fit the OEM tool kit in my shirt pocket, where it would get lost.

I saw this plastic cylinder over at Home Depot, which was a clear cylinder with softer plastic ends. Different sizes, big one about $3.50. One end has a cut in it so you can fill it with hardware (nuts & bolts). Almost bought one, but I would have to shorten it to fit.

Interesting idea! I love when someone thinks outside the box.

You can also use Quick Chocolate Milk mix containers too - they come in a couple sizes but are yellow. I use them to store my chamois in with a little water to keep them from drying out.

I have the stock tool kit in the stock bag and a more complete tool kit that I put together in a MSR (dirtbike) tri-fold (about 2x5x6) tool roll in the saddlebag. And don't tell anyone............... but you can find lots of neat little pouches, bags, containers in the womens makeup section at Walmart. I got two that I keep spare fuses, elect tape, wire, and other bits in. And another one that fits a small multi-meter perfectly. Just take a needle and small sharp knife and remove the labels / tags on the bags and no one will ever know............. well, until you tell them on a forum :scared2:
