Our best wishes go out to Alicia for a speedy recovery. We all suffer a little when one of us goes down. What are the facts with this awful event?
No matter how long one rides, nor how careful we are, we all are at risk when we go out there.

These are the days of our faith put to the test... After getting up this morning and turning on the news the fires in California and around here in San Diego have gotten worse! There has been a death I heard too... And to top it with such bad news about our some of our members and family... well it's enough to put a grown man to tears...

I want to update the slim info I have on Alicia... I incorrectly said that she is at home. I re-read the message her friend Bob sent me and he said she is in the hospital, not at home. I don't know the name of the hospital yet. Bob left me his phone so I'll be giving him a call later today to get details and then I'll pass that on to you guys if you want to send a card and/or flowers to her. I know I'll be doing that.

Geez! Hang in there guys! Ride safe! Stay sane! Whew!...

She want's to let you guys know that the punk that hit her was drunk driving, being chased by the cops for 40 minutes and had 4 hit and run accidents along the way, 1 of them being 2 pedestrians crossing the street. He hit Alicia and then he and his 2 other drunk buddies got out of the truck they stole from his mother, and took off running. Bubbah grabbed him and faced planted him in the center divider and held him till the cops got there. His other 2 buddies were caught when the manager of the local Applebees saw all the camotion and called the cops stating the 2 suspects were in his restaurant. There are 8 felonies pending against the driver and he's going to prison for along time. She want's Joe Norris (MELLOW) to know that she would like him to please start a thread to keep people updated and pray for her, she would greatly appreciate it."

Drunk drivers suck! Licenses of convicted DD's should be revoked for life.

Alicia frequently posted about safety and I knew this wouldn't be her fault. She probably did everything possible to minimize the damage. This is another reminder that anything can happen. Everyday is a fight to keep the rubber side down.

Alicia, I hope you heal quickly and completely.

:crackup :crackup :crackup Oh my god!!! Too funny! If any of you guys ever met Alicia ( I have of course) you'd know this is soooooo true!!! :crackup :crackup :crackup

OK! I just got off the phone with Alicia! She is in very good spirits and man oh man! is she one feisty gal!! So here are the details as best I can remember straight from the source...

Yep! Two broken legs! Two breaks in one leg, one in the other. She may be going home soon, if not today. The accident (if you can call it that) is pretty much as Arthur said... A young punk under the age of 21 and drunk in his Mother's work truck on a cop chase through Fresno. He ran lights and stops. Hit two other ladies in a crosswalk. Alicia was turning left on a green light and the kid plowed through. She doesn't know if he hit her, or she hit him. She doesn't remember anything of the incident. She thinks she hit him, because her logic is that if he hit her she would be dead. The bike is total junk! She's got insurance up the waa-zoo, Progressive. She is biting at the bit to go legally after the kid, the kid's mother and the kid's mother's job! Wants the kid's mother's house and everything in it! LOL. She was adamant about stating all the ATGATT stuff she had on and how it saved her life. I am sure she is right! Besides the broken legs, she sustained no other injuries such as road rash and the ilk. She does have a very nasty bruise up her arm though. They had to cut off her pants in the hospital when they brought her in.

Now, I have her home address and telephone number in case you guys want to send something. PM me. Her SO's name is Kay. They have been together for 9 years and Kay is very very upset! I also understand from Bob (I also called him) that Alicia is very very fond of M&M's; so let that be a clue to you! LOL. On a side note her friend Bob also the night before Alicia's accident was in his '67 Vet and was also hit on the road, and his beloved Vet is totaled! He is OK, but very unhappy about his car!

It was great to hear Alicia's very upbeat mood. She was telling the nurse while we were talking to close the door to her room so she didn't have to listen to some guy down the hall who has been screaming for the past three days! LOL. She also told another nurse while we talking to change her sheets as they haven't been changed for three days! Yikes! Too much info! LOL. Alicia is a real hoot and will be fine mentally I can tell! Great character! I'm going to wait a couple of days for her to settle in at home and send her a card, and maybe a some flowers with M&Ms! LOL. I also told her you guys were real concerned and had posted your well wishes and prayers to her. She really appreciated that! I didn't get a chance to ask her if she plans on riding again. She will be going through some serious PT and was talking about retiring early from work. I hope the best for her as I am sure you guys do too!

I found a newpaper clip about the incident in the Fresno Bee:

News briefs

10/19/07

Police...

Driver held in collisions, striking of pedestrians

The driver of a pickup was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run driving after he was involved in two collisions and striking two women at intersections in Clovis and Fresno on Thursday night.

The driver, who was not immediately identified, is also being investigated on suspicion of driving under the influence, Fresno police Sgt. David Selecky said.

The incidents began about 8:30 p.m. when the driver collided with another vehicle at Peach and Shaw avenues in Clovis. He then drove west on Shaw and struck two women in a crosswalk at Shaw and Cedar avenues, Selecky said.

The driver then sped north on Cedar and struck a motorcycle (Alicia) at Herndon Avenue.

The women suffered minor injuries. The motorcycle rider was taken to Community Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Selecky said Fresno and Clovis officers were both investigating the incidents.

LOL - I have met Alicia, and if she could have gotten to him she would have beaten the snot out of him!
I think she may have a case against the mother, but the company may be problematic. We had a situation at work about 10 years ago with the son of a VP driving the company car with permission from her. He got drunk and caused a wreck. The company insurance paid the plaintiff to settle out of court.

Alicia should also be suing the municipalities/police depts that have the policy of police pursuit(on the ground).I have seen all too often how police pursuits add to the increased hazards to the general public. The policy of a more covert pursuit using cars on the ground to radio where they spot the vehicle and then use heliocopters to actually keep the suspects in sight.Ground units close in and bag the suspect when they bail the vehicle.A less overt pursuit is less of a threat to everyone else out there..especially when it is known that a suspect is running.

Hopefully this will elicit the giggle it was intended to:

How to solve your legal problems: get your neighbor with the dog-bitten rear end to sue the dumbnut who hit you and leave you out of it. :)

Glad to hear you're in good spirits.

Aw crap, sorry to hear this! I don't know Alicia personally, but have enjoyed her posts here. Prayers and hopes go out for her speedy recovery. As for the drunk punk, it would be good to see him held accountable and great to see him show some genuine remorse for his actions.

When he hits forty in prison (if he lives that long in there) he'll look back and be filled with regrets and remorse! Unless there is something seriously wrong with the kid... Like being a sociopath!

I got a call from Alicia today and she said she's been moved to Horizon Health and Subacute center here in Fresno. Sounds like she's still in good spirits, feisty as ever. Although I do hope she gets internet access soon so she can see all the great posts on this thread.

Heres a link for Horizon with there address and some other info.

Just a note to you guys that I sent a "Don't Ride Nakedl - ATGATT" (me, sitting naked on the bike. Don't freak out, you can't see "anything".) poster that the folks at the SeaSTOC event all signed. That should make her feel better.... or not....

Alicia, heal well and try to keep your spirits up. My prayers are with you.

As for the this trend of people running from the Police and driving drunk there seems to be only one answer here. Change the law so that the penalty for high speed pursuits is a mandatory 25 years to life in jail, no parole. It seems with the media's coverage of pursuits in California is out of control. Sorry, hate to pick on the people of CA but as I travel there on business quite often it seems like there is always a pursuit on the TV at one time of another. Some people need to made an example of to drive the message home the that this is neither cool or a good way to get on TV. Although the Police need to use good judgment when confronting these situations lets not forget who is the bad guys are here.

I have a brother-in-law that was a 2-wheel cop, and he maintains there are two type of riders, those that have had accidents and those that will have an accident.

No one want to be in the first group, thank a higher power if you are in either group and MAY YOU RECOVER quickly if it's your turn in the barrel.

BEST WISHES AND A PRAYER TO ALL IN NEED

Alicia,

Best wishes for a speedy recovery and some really good pain pills! I'm normally not a vindictive person but I hope you nail this SOB for blindsiding you like that. We all know riding is risky but getting taken down like that is just totally unfair and uncalled for.

Your misfortunate news made me wince twice. First for you and your pain, then for the rest of us who could suffer the same fate at any time. Thanks for being such a good example for ATGATT though! ;)

Heal fast, heal good, and make sure the bad guy pays for everything, plus!

Best Regards, Mike

Good news, I and Kay went down to Best Buy, picked up and delivered a Gateway laptop to Alicia on Thursday. I also ordered her an ATT wireless card. She's supposed to receive it on Saturday or Monday at the latest, so she should be up and running pretty soon. She will be able to jump on this forum and keep you guys updated herself, as well as keep herself entertained and I in turn can go back to my R1-forum.com

Awww, come on now Fred, Kevin was pretty kewl at SeaSTOC. You have to have at least one soft spot for the Beemers now.

I am sitting at the edge of my seat hoping to hear from Alicia directly any time now. The prayers for fast healing and complete recovery continue from my end. Now all we need is some cooperation from Alicia's bones, all that I know of her says that her spirit was never really wounded.

Good news, I just got off the phone with Alicia, and she told me a package ( satellite card ) came in yesterday and Kay is supposed to take it to her. So she should be up and running on the internet tonight or tomorrow. She said she can't wait to come here and chime in on this thread personally.

Alicia,

I'm from t'other side of 'pond too, and can say, with all honesty, that I've winced, smarted, ached and itched with you all the way though.
Just wish you were close enough so that I could say 'hello' in person.

You've been an inspiration, I have the highest regard for you, and wish you all the best in your recovery.

All the very best,
