Looking at the specs for the '04 and '05 I noticed that the '04 is 6 lbs heavier.

Specs: '04: 637 lbs dry weight
'05: 631 lbs dry weight

Anyone know why ?

Thanks Brian!

Now we are going to start seeing "Ball Farkles". GREAT! Guess RAM could make a killing on that. My ball ball mount is bigger than your ball ball mount!

Dave...

Normally, I would order a brass pair. But, wife's been sick...make mine 'blue' please.

Maybe they took a few spark plugs out of the red ones because they were too fast ;-)

Actually.....forget the sexual innuendos
The real truth is that there is 6 lbs more speed in the 04's
Okay how about...they forgot to put all fluids in the 05's
The Blue paint is heavier
It might actually be the difference between abs and non abs???
  :D

They pulled the plugs out to keep the speed down to that of the blue one :-)

You know, you'll never get the expression for the Red one:

It blue by me at such a speed .... ;-)

OK, seriously, does anyone have a clue ? The ABS is about 25LBs I believe so that's not it. Maybe there's a difference in the heat plates under the bike (inside bottom cowl) or something like that ?

I was curious to see if anyone has taken their cute red bikes apart yet and done a comparison.

The thing that I noticed vs the '03 was that there was no electric windshield and no metal in the bottom cowl. Couldn't see anything else though.

Betcha it's the windshield motor and hardware that was added to the standard '04

I just bought the new shop manual for the bike and it came with some page inserts to be pasted in the old manual to be able to include the '05 model.
There were some changes...
*But*, those changes appear to be very minor, like the location of wiring harness plugs etc. Not additional plugs but they moved slightly from one place on the bike to another. I imagine there could be some very minor weight changes by using different harnesses etc. but probably the difference is in the actual way they calculated the weight of the parts this year. Or they changed to a new supplier for some parts and the new manufacturer has used lighter materials to build the same part...

Not sure but there isn't anything of importance noted between the years in the manual. Same great bike just not the same great blue color ;)
