My Sargent seat w/CarbonFX & silver welts/piping came in yesterday! Looks great on the bike! :biker: Looks like it belongs on the bike more than the stock seat did. With the middle seat height position, the gap between the front of the seat and the tank is almost nonexistant. Haven't tried the high position yet, but probably true for that as well.

Only had a chance to go for a very brief ride so far, thunderstorms moved in and it's still raining as I type. Felt good, can definitely tell it is a different seat. When sitting all the way back on it, it feels wider, but if you scoot up on the seat for sporty riding it feels narrower, which is good :)

Of course, impossible to really test it on just a 10 minute ride  Probably going to be raining hard all day and into the night, but tomorrow and the weekend looks good. Will post more once I have a chance to put some real miles on it :)

In the meantime, here are a couple quick pics I took in my garage:

Yes that seat is SO much better than stock for looks as well as comfort.

Good looking seat all right.
Hey Charlie I was thinking the same thing about getting to try it out on my bike. :)

Beautiful seat, I think I would put a lock on it. You had me reaching for my credit card. Enjoy and ride safe. :03biker: :04biker: :biker:

Do they make the seat without the white rim ? I like the blue/blackness of my bike and don't want fancy lines on it.

Yeah Dog. I think you can even get a blue welt. :03biker:

Mine is a silver trim, very close match for the silver color of the grab rail. You can get a black trim as well. They don't have a color match for the blue, or for the red.

I got my black on black Sargent last week. I have had a few hundred miles on it and frankly I am in love with it. This weekend I am going to put a little over 1k on the bike...I will post back with my impressions from some longer distance riding.

My new Sargeant seat arrived from Cal Sport Touring today. It was supposed to have the silver welt to match my 03, BUT arrived with black welt. It looks good but not as good as I was expecting.

It's NOT what I ordered. :cus:

Would you return it or live with it?

I'm in Canada so to get this one changed will take another 4 weeks minimum I'd estimate, round trip - never mind the hassle factor and expense for CST. (I guess I shouldn't care about CST's cost but they're good people - we all make mistakes)

The silver welt looks good with the 05 in the pics above, but maybe even better on an 03(?) Who's seen an 03 with the silver welted Sargeant in real life? Does it look as sharp as I was thinking this seat was going to look on my bike??

 One more thought - Anyone looking for a Sargeant, Carbon Fx with black welt? Someone in Canada, preferably Ontario, would save shipping costs, time and taxes at border. I think I could get a new one rush shipped and maybe even rush production, given the circumstances. (I ordered this one Feb 8, received it March 18 :22yikes: )

Thx, Jeff

PS: `Spoke with Kim @ CST. As expected he was very good about this. He's waiting for my instructions, if any, and he will fix the problem - within reason of course.

Just got back from a nice ride, low to mid 60 temps, 50% RH, mostly sunny, not too too windy. Put in about 5 hours of seat time, not including the 20 minute break in the middle. Was doing back roads mostly with some higher speed roads. About 200 miles.

BTW, 6'2" w/34" inseam and about 185lbs, ok, maybe 190...

So far, I like the Sargent Seat. On the stock seat, after about 1 hour of riding, I would start feeling some pressure point pain. On the Sargent Seat, even after 5 hours of riding, I have no pressure point pain. The Sargent Seat feels wider and more supportive, also seems easier to move around on and pick different seating positions. The stock seat would make me feel like it was trying to slide me forward. The Sargent seat doesn't do that, in the middle position it is pretty neutral with maybe a slight slope back on the back part of the seat, feels pretty natural. So far so good :)

Now I just need to test it out on a long ride of say 10 hours or so. Start my new job soon, so not sure when I'll get a chance for a long ride :( But may be able to sneak one in on an otherwise open weekend. Have faith that it will do well, at the very least better than the stock, which wouldn't be hard, lol.

And, NO, you can't borrow it for a longer test :p:

No regrets at this point :)

Jeff F,

Every time you get on or see your bike, would you wish you had the silver trim instead? If the answer is yes, then get the silver trim or you will regret it for the rest of the time you own that seat. Ask them to send you a new one with silver trim and once you get it *then* send back the wrong one. Also ask them to pay for shipping back of the wrong one. Shouldn't cost you anything extra to correct *their* mistake.

Thanks for the seat reviews! I still have a stock seat... I modified it over the winter with hopes of a better seat... well so much for that. It still sucks. I'm trying to decide whether to go Corbin, Sargent or other.... I've yet to read a bad report on the Sargent seats... leaning toward that... just want to be shure before plunking down $....

just want to be shure before plunking down $....

If you buy directly from Sargent you have 30 days to return for a full refund. Sargent charges $15 for shipping.

Yes, I did. In fact the seat is on its way back to Sargent, as of today, to be customized.

To reiterate, my reasons were than I found the Sargent to be kinder to my back and hands(less pressure) on long rides. This was unexpected and I could not figure out why. I took side photos of me with the bike on the ceter stand and camera ona tripod and the difference was tiny. Two things.
1) The small visual difference had nothing to do with it.
2) such a change means something to me which means dumb luck to hit something "just right". How can you know what just right is until you stumble across it.

My sit bones did not like the seat due to my weight, 215lbs, and my flat boney butt. The seat has firm foam and is mostly flat. Note that I am not comforatable in any seat, let alone motorcycle seat, unless it is plush.

It is precisley known how to fix sit bone pressure points. I talked with Bill at Sargent and we came up with a plan ($85). Attached is a photo of my experiment(s) in seat shape. Much went into this. Slope of the layers, shape of the layers and spread of the layers. I many hours with tape and sissors in saddlebag. The layers are my second generation. The first was just plain terry towels (thin shop kind) but each time I adjusted the layers the tape was shredding the loops of the towels. Hence the duct tape on the towel surface.

This type of experiment and customization can work with the Sargent since it is wide and mostly flat. The stock seat is flat but too narrow. I could easily feel a change of one layer of terry (< 1/8in under load) or a 1/8 inch spread in the "shelfs". Just sitting on the seat, no. After 1-1.5 hours, yes.

Quick Poll:

How many of you who ARE comfortable on your seat (stock or otherwise) wear leathers for pants?

How many of you who ARE NOT comfortable on your seat (stock or otherwise) wear leathers for pants?

I have a sneaking suspicion that leathers offer seating comfort as well as protection; they do for me.

:biker: Curious about the piping on the sargeant seat. I had a Corbin saddle on my Duc ST4. It had red welting on it-looked good, but. I found that for more aggressive riding posture-read sliding off to one side-I felt the line of the welting. Didn't like it. So, question is-do you (or anyone ) feel the welting on your inseam? Need info b4 choosing a new saddle for my new steed. Phil :biker:

With my Rocket Alter Ego pants and carhartt jeans and aerostitch rider shorts the stock seat feels comfortable for about 3 hours between breaks (bladder becomes the reason for stop at that point).

If I don't wear the riding pants and shorts I need to get a butt break about every 2 hours.

What you wear does make a difference.

I agree, they're not cheap, but I could only get a couple of hours tops out of the plank it came with, before I had to stop. By the end of a day I was hurting.

`Looking forward to a seat that matches the quality of the rest of the bike.

Thanks again Jeff. I guess I never realized how much an aftermarket seat could be. May be my fat old *** will be all right on the stocker for a season but after two hours I usually need a rest any how.

When you and I last corresponded, we discussed the Clear View Wind Shield. Since then, I ordered the GT Small model (1" taller than stock) with the cats eye vents per Craigs recommendation at Clear View. Now I am ready to splurge for a Sargent Seat. I know this is the seat I want to purchase. My only concern is at 5'8"' with a 30" inseam, even with the Sargent seat in the lowest position my feet will not be planted firmly on the ground as I am able to do with the stock seat. Question, did you notice the Sargent seat increased the height of your seating position compared to the stock? I know you are a lot taller then I. I am interest in your comparison. I have an 05 ST 1300 as well. How does the silver piping look on the bike compared to black?

Also If you are riding to Leesburg for the day, we should hook up.

Did you get it yet? I ordered the GT medium and am waiting for it, maybe another week or so yet.

The Sargent seat seems a bit wider than the stock seat, which would make it seem as if the seat is higher. If you slide forward on the seat, it is narrower and doesn't feel as high there. Maybe slide forward before stopping? If we hook up sometime you are welcome to try out my Sargent Seat on your bike.

It looks great! :D

That would be awesome! Would love to meet another ST1300 rider, have yet to do so. Just a few ST1100's from time to time. I will probably be going up that Saturday, leaving fairly early in the morn and coming back home that eve. Most likely with a few of my friends from my riding club, and you are certainly welcome to join us :) When I get more details, such as timing and meeting spots, I will let you know!

I need to look back. I may have missed it . Thank you for graciously reponding to my question. Were you able to keep you feet flat on the ground with the stock seat in the lowest position?

I'm still having difficulty deciding where to buy mine. Everyone speaks highly of Sargeant and purchasing directly from them. However, one can get it at ebay for $180 less. I dont mean to sound cheap but what is the benefit of buying directly from the manufacturer? Also, what looks better w/ an O3, gray or silver welt?

I was very pleased with the purchase of a Sargent seat on eBay from Part Monster (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-Sargent-Seat-Honda-ST1300-ST-1300-ST-1300_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35589QQitemZ459205 3302QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW). It was $495 with shipping. I've read that another member here had some shipping damage, but I did not have this experience. Maybe it was an isolated incident? They have a 99.9% positive rating on over 2500 transactions. You may want to pay a bit more for better/faster shipping that requires signature. My seat arrived three weeks from the purchase date.

I ordered the Sargent with CarbonFX and a silver welt, and I'm pleased with how it looks on my '03 ST. If you would like some photos, just PM me and I'll send some over.

My Sargent seat just arrived this afternoon! Got it for $469.69 +shpg from Part Monster in about 2 weeks. It looks and feels great on the bike. Now I just have to hope spring comes early so I can get some miles on it....it was about 10 degrees here today (-11C). :(
