05 ST1300 i purchaced used last of march first april . Only had one key and the other day after getting gas i put the key in the switch and it just turned around and around . The key broke off and i finally got it started and to home . Took the switch off and took it to a lock smith and he popped the key out like nothing. He took the two broke pices and made a key . It worked but he was never able to duplicate it and after the 5th try i told him i would just go up to the honda shop and have them make me one . They couldn,t make another either and they used the #s off the switch plus the key . I think the switch is deffective but honda said it ( " was not defective because it worked before ". ) ? What ? I disscused it with him untill i finally was sick of it.He just kept repetting the same answer over and over like a puppett.

If it's possible / practical for you to do so, try another dealer. I could get no resolution on a warranty issue (warped brake rotor) with my usual dealer so I tried a different dealer. The rotor was swiftly replaced under warranty by the second dealer. The dealer makes all the difference in how hard they want to impress you as a customer and how hard they will go to bat against American Honda for you.

+1.. I've heard of dealers replacing headlight bulbs under warranty.. so anything is possible.

*** is right. Of course it worked before. They usually don't let them out of the factory if they're broken. It failed after purchase. If they weren't going to repair failed parts, they wouldn't bother with a warranty at all. Duh.

Go back to the dealer, ask him to repeat his explanation. Then whip out your cell phone, call Torrance and ask your dealer to repeat his explanation for Honda.

Yet another reason to love dealers.

I talked to Honda myself after i left the dealer and they said i would have to pay the labor to determine if the lock was broken ! They said after paying that charge it might be cheaper to just buy a lock !

And as far as going to another dealer the others around here will not work on your bike if you did not buy it from them . AND acorrding to MOTHER HONDA i was told they can do that under FEDERAL law !

Holy scam-artists, Batman!

I thought the dealers around here were bad. They just won't work on any bike older than 10 years. Means after next year, I'd better be ready to do ALL of the work on my 1998 ST all by myself. Not that I trust the dealership with much...

My exact sentiments. See if you can find a local auto lock specialist that actually wants to help you in a professional manner and acts like he wants more of YOUR business. When all is done send a copy of your bill and nice letter to Mr Kotta and copy M-Honda's-North America customer service.

nough said! :D

i don't know if you guys are aware ofo this but, if you have the serial number tag with the key you can cut it based on that with no key to copy from, the key code on yoru serial number tag is the reverse order of the key cutting process, the number tells them how high the ridge is and where its placed on the key...

oh you didn't try at the dealer with the tag yet? LOL.... ok i must have missed that somewhere in the posting...if you bring in the tag, if your honda dealer has any sense they can cut it for you, i worked in a honda dealer for 1/2 a year and i got my ST key cut that way, didn't need my original key just the tag numbers...

Most dealers don't have the equipment to cut the key, but they can order a replacement key with the tag number that chiller is talking about. I'm actually rather shocked that another dealer would say they only work on what they sell. I work at a dealer and, personally, I don't care where somebody bought their bike. Given the choice, I'd be more than happy to be the service choice for every Honda in SoCal. Sounds like some dealers out there are missing out. As far as the 10 year thing, the reasoning behind it is that manufacturers are not required to make parts for a model after 10 years. But with the way most manufacturers reuse parts on other models and years, the 10 year rule should be more of a caution to the customer but not a refusal to do the work.

To be honest, ifly, I'm not sure what the dealer said when they attempted to warranty it with Honda, but I can see it going either way depending on the dealer. Do you have extended warranty on the ST?
