I am setting up a group buy for the Russel Day Long Seat in December and I currently have 3 other forums that are helping add interest to lower our overall cost. It looks like we currently have enough interest to get 15% off right now but we are trying to see what we would need to do to get 20-25% off the overall cost? If you are interested let me know and I will add you to the mater list in the FJR Forum here (http://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?showtopic=27548&pid=323871&mode=threaded&start=#entry323871). You will need to allow 3 weeks for a turn around and drive in will not be accepted for this deal. I have never owned a Russel seat but after reading MANY rider reviews I am going to jump in and get one. You guys have a great forum!
I will make sure everyone is added to the list so you do not need to worry. We will not know what the final discount will be since this will depend on the amount of people who order. I think it is safe to say we should get the 15% easily and the 20% will be a bit of a stretch but I know we can do it. We will know for sure on December 1st after all orders have been placed. Remember, you will not need to send in your seat by then but you will need to place your order. Please write on the top of the order form that you are part of the "FJR Group Buy" regardless of the bike you have to make sure you get the right discount. You can start sending in orders now so you can get your production date. It is also important to understand that this deal is only good for mail in orders and new builds. It will not apply to ride ins and rebuilds. November 30th will be the cut-off date and after that this deal will be over so please make sure you get your order in before that date. Remember, we need 50 orders placed by November 30th to get the 20% percent off. I will be sending in my order this weekend and I will update the list but showing that I paid. As you send in orders it would be helpful if you did the same so we know exactly how many orders we have in place. It is great to see all of the interest and here is to investing in your butt for 2008.

Yes, but the master list is on the FJR Forum. I am pulling people from all of the forums to one master list to get as many people as possible to reduce the cost for everyone.

Wow, the interest is overwhelming. I just called and spoke to Terry at Russell and he said that the best he could do would be 15% BUT if we could hit 50 then he would honor a 20% discount. I have just added all of the people who were on the FJR list and those that have PMd me. I still need to go to 3 other forums right now and pull everyone so we can work off of just this one list. At the rate ew are going I know we can hit 50 people and I am sure there might be some who back out or do not pay so we will need to make sure we have some wiggle room when we get to the final count. The discount is going to be based on number of orders not numbers on this list. Terry mention that we can start sending in orders right now for the December build and it is VERY important that we mention we are part of this buy. Use the word "DECEMBER GROUP BUY" during check out so you will get the discount and help Terry know this was an order to help us get closer to our 20% goal.
I removed FJRROcket and FredW but would love it if you guys come back to help us all build the numbers we need to reach the next level. Terry is a real class act and they run one hell of an operation so this is really nice of them to work with us. The bottom line is many of us are going to be sending off orders not knowing if we are going to get a 10%, 15% or a 20% discount but it will all depend on how many orders are placed. I would think it is safe to say we are going to reach our 15% goal with ease and we have a good chance of hitting our 20% goal but we will not know until orders are in. I would like everyone to please use this master list as we move forward so people do not keep getitng deleted. Once you place your order and ship your pan please come back and put the word PAID in bold so everyone knows you paid and we will start our own count. This would be a good time to ask any questions you might have and let's rally the forces to get more people. Remember if you sign up and pay now you will not be billed until it ships. They will confirm you have the money available on the card and that is it. The money will likely come out sometime in Decembre and with this many orders I would suggest getting your orders in early so the 2 week time frame does not get extended to 3 or 4 weeks.

Yes, it is not a problem adding 2 seats. It will be considered 2 orders and will help us all reach our goal of 50 seats purchased. Hopefully we do not get many people who back out. Thanks BrighteyeSUE!

Terry told me they really think there will be a 2 week turn around but I think I would factor in about 3 weeks to be safe given all of the interest in this deal. These are hand made seat and I want them to rush through everyones seats and then slow down when they make mine. :D Just kidding but I think 3 weeks would be a safe bet.

If it helps, after they get your order, they contact you with a date for you to send your seat to them, so you may not be "bike-less" for all that long...

Production Schedule:
When your order has been received, you will be issued a production date in the order received. You will be contacted either by e-mail or the telephone. Do to variables in custom manufacturing, scheduled production dates may change. Under normal circumstances it takes at least two weeks in production. Please call before shipping your seat or seats to be sure production dates are on schedule.

Maybe so. A question on the order form asks if you've made any mods to your handlebars, suspension, etc. Probably best to call Russell, it may not be that big of a deal....1-800-432-9566

Got my build date today, Dec 11th (I'm # 60 on the list). Heather said she only has a few over 20 orders so far on the FJR Group Buy. I only count 11 on this list, so looks like it needs to be updated.
I see there are several who haven't been officially added to the list, but don't let that stop you from ordering - just write "FJR Group Buy" on your order, per 2006FJR's instructions, and I'm speaking out of turn, but I bet he wouldn't mind if you came back, after sending in your order and took the next number, added your name, and indicated that you've either paid or have a build date. If we keep track of how many orders/build dates we have, we'll know what our discount will be, 15 or 20 %

When I sent my order in, I figured my cost with both discounts. (In my case the difference between getting 15 or 20 percent was less than 20 bucks, but 20 bucks is 20 bucks)
The production dates don't begin until after the group buy cut off date. By the time they start building, they'll know how many have participated in the group buy, and know which discount to give us.
They don't charge your card until they ship your seat, so at that time they'll apply the appropriate discount.

On the order form it said they will not charge your CC until they ship the seat back to you. They will know by then how many they have for the discount. If you are paying by check, not sure. You may want to call them on that one.

Hey all...i am very interested in this. I have one question though, I will call them tomorrow and ask but.... I have a 28" inseam and I've heard that the russells raise you up about 2 inches, if that is the case it wouldn't work. can anyone give me any insight here?

my Russell came about 1.5 inches higher than stock. It was not going to work for me, so I sent it back and they lowered it as much as they could. It is still about 1/2 inch taller than stock. It's ok now and very comfortable on long rides. No squirming at all due to all the extra support the internal spring and wings provide.
When you call them, tell them it must be as low as possible, and listen closely to their answer.
You may be better served by the Spencer lowering mod if seat height is critical for you.

Spencer has already done his magic...which resulted in about a 70% improvement over stock! still getting monkey butt on those 600+mile days though. just a rough guess, but i think I did about 20 days this summer that were between 600-900 miles...thinking there may be a few more next summer so i'd like to see if I can cure it completely....

You are very welcome guys! We got the 20% discount and I feel we no longer need to keep a list. We did what we set out to do and if everyone who has not ordered does not jump on this deal then they only have themselves to blame. Deals like this do not come up very often and I for one an very happy Russell was so generous with their discount. I can't wait to start seeing everyone's seats next month. For those that have not placed your order yet you have until November 30th. For those that have placed their orders thank you for making this the best group by ever.
So for the ST1100, it says that the price code is S-3. That means the cheapest option is in vinyl at $460 or $368 with the 20% discount. Do I have that right?

The ST1300 is also listed as a S-3 price and it is a smaller seat. Maybe it is S-2 as well? S-2 would make it $324 with the discount. That's crazy pricing!

Hi all,
called Russell today.....I spoke with one of the seat builders and explained my situation to him about being short. he said that what they could do is build it like they do a sport bike seat. Which would mean that it would not have the springs in it. The foam would be replaced with foam that has a better fit and cut. The seat would still have the wings but they would be about half the size. according to him the pocket would be formed based on where you sit according to your pics. and the seat would be flat so the rider doesn't have to worry about sliding forward.
it sounds to me that it is going to be a lot like what Spencer does.......think i'll just call Spencer back and see if I have his latest and greatest....
Does no springs mean lower price?

Have you tried the LDComfort shorts. If you think the mod helped alot, then the shorts might just do the trick. I couldn't believe the difference those shorts made in my LD riding, and Mario is a joy to work with. I have gotten to know him on a ride we do every year, and he really knows his undies,lol. Doesn't matter which seat I have on the bikes now, I never leave home without thase shorts on, find them at LDComfort.com. This is just a personal recomendation, I am not in any way affiliated with him, but tell him Doug, aka Gator from Run for the Wall said hi.

My other Russell had a serial number on it, but when I called in and asked them about it, they said it was so old they didn't have the records on those numbers anymore. It was a great saddle.

I finally got around to faxing my order yesterday about 10:00am their time and was getting worried since I hadn't heard anything as of noon today. Gave them a call---the lady that answered said that their fax machine had run out of paper and that the machine was only printing parts of orders...it looked like mine was one of them and that I would need to reorder. So, just a heads up.. if anybody ordered yesterday and has not heard back from them, you might want to call and see if they got your order. Another thing she said that I thought was interesting was that they have already had 100 orders from the FJR group buy.

Well I took the ST out for an hour to STretch her legs and test the new Russell seat, unseasonaly warm today and tomorrow by NY standards.
For me at least, this seat is every thing it is suppose to be. I only did about 60 miles, but never once did I squirm in the seat like I did with the stock or the Sargent. I know a lot of riders swear by the Sargent, that's why I bought one, but it did not work for me. Never did my A$$ hurt or get numb.Yes it was a short ride but long enough for me to keep riding and saying to myself I am not in any pain and I am very comfortable.
Again, I know it was a short ride but it looks like this seat is a keeper. The above mentioned seats would have had me squirming after 60 miles.
I will ride it again tomorrow, and try for more distance, time permitting and add more comments.

Usually at least twice a month I do 250 to 300 mile rides. On those I can survive with the stock but my bones seem to ache. I have hope that the new day-long will correct this.

Well the seats should be coming in from the group buy by the dozens now. Heather called me today at work and said she was shipping mine out this afternoon. This will be the last farkle for the ST for a while. Now I need to sell my Travelcade Saddleman seat. Saw one on Ebay last week go for 280.00 I would be happy with $250.00 Anyone out there interested? Excellent shape! I only used it for one season!
