Here's a few of my artsy fartsy Seastoc Salton Sea photographs. I hope you enjoy them. You can see how fantastically surreal the Salton Sea is for photographers! And it's a migratory bird sanctuary! See the rare White Snowy Pelican!? The Mexican Monarch butterfly were there too on their thousands of miles migration. It's a no-brainer!

Thanks guys! It sure is a very beautiful and interesting place! I'll do a photographer's tour next time.
We missed you all! NEXT YEAR!!!
Nice shots Fred.
Jack was sitting behind me and commented "He takes really good pictures".
I think he has a good eye; kind of like the photographer of these shots!

Jack, I could tell, is a sensitive person! The first step to being a artist! LOL. Also he displayed a real interest in nature! Excellent! Get him his own camera and offer advice and set him loose. If he would like to ask me questions feel free to give him my email address.
Nice family you got there Mark!!! Yeah, and I guess you're OK too, even if you are a Mod. LOL. ;) :D

At the risk of encouraging more of this wishy-washy display of one's feminine side, great shots Fred. You show a real talent with a camera.
Great pictures! Thank you for the reminder that the sky is in fact blue.

Actually, as I was looking at those photos wishing I could take shots as good as these I had a thought (it kind of echoed around in my skull). I need to take a 3 credit art course to satisfy my BBA degree program and I'm thinkin' a photography class might just be the ticket! Thanks for the inperspiration Fred! :D

Fred you're absolutely correct, great shots. I almost made a comment about, "How come your bike isn't in the photo set?", but isn't that what everyone else does? Congratulations on being an individual.

Tell you what. You send me the $50,000 for tutition, and ask me a bunch of questions, I'll then test you, and when you pass I'll print out a 3 credits certificate! Then you're in! Think about it! Seriously! ;) :crackup

Bike (Veronica) not in photos because she wasn't there! I took my car instead. I had too much Stuff to carry to the event. But! I'm still a "individual"! I just got my fringed leather chaps and vest! :D

Louis, that must have been you John Diego and I passed as we were leaving SeaSTOC! At the fist stop we came to, John asked me who that was we passed, I guessed it was Louie Louie since it sure looked like a silver ('07) STeed to me.
I hope to get to meet you at an event soon.

Well done Fred - Clearly you and a camera are a dangerous combination!
Fred, sometimes you can tell the make and model of a camera by viewing its picture's properties; but sadly not on this occasion.
As I'm currently thinking of an upgrade from a pocket-sized 'point-and-shoot' digital camera to a compact 'general-use' mid-range with some SLR like performance - I would like to know what sort of camera you used for these shots. Can you let me know?
Thanks
KEITH

Thanks Keith! I knew the Brits would appeciate my work!
The camera I use is a Olympus C-8080 digital SLR with built-in zoom. It has a wonderful ED lens that just does a beautiful job of enhancing color. It is a mid-size camera. I only carry two filters: a polarizer and a grey graduated filter. Great for landscape and sky shots!
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/514S9ZVCHBL._SS400_.jpg Discontiued model.
Your thinking on a mid-size camera is on the button! I use to have tons and tons of camera bodies and lens I would carry with me, but it just got to be too much! So I went light and handy and it works.
Keep in mind Keith it is often not the camera that makes for good pictures, but the photographer's knowledge of his gear and imagination.

You guys do realize that if Fred starts showing off his pics of the Salton Sea, people are going to be flocking there to see these sights themselves and there goes the great secret of SoCal! :p:
We need to make sure that these pics stay in this forum! Otherwise when Fred has his next SeaSTOC it will be so crowded out there, you won't be able to find a campsite!
Sorry I missed it, but I had to take the wife up to Roy Utah to see my son before he ships off for training and then to Iraq the 9th of November. :o:
:usflag1:
Plenty of room at the site... lots, and lots of empty sites...
And we were not crowded in the site we used either...
I suspect that is one of the beST reasons I've heard (well except for Alicia's excuse!) for not being there...

Remember the camera is just the tool; for example a simple carving knife, in the hands of a sculptor produces beautiful artwork, in the hands of an amateur it's a tool for severing fingers.
In Fred's case, it's beauty in motion, the boy has talent says I.

Great images. I've been on the road on the opposite side of the country. Wish I could have joined the gang on the "left" coast. Next year for certain!
