Last Sunday the LA Times had an article in the travel section about the incredible desert bloom going on in/around Anza Borrego and Borrego Springs. Had to go.

Left home Monday around 6:30 am (to get ahead of traffic) and aimed for the town of Julian, in the hills east of San Diego. Breakfast in the "Miner's Diner." Great little place, if you're in the area. Also, Julian in general is a great place to ride. Great roads with a wide variety of scenery. Also, you'll generally find a lot of bikes parked on Main street during the day.

Anyway, after breakfast it was off to the visitor center in Borrego Springs. Again, if you're in the area, stop at the visitor center. Nice folks with a wealth of up to date information about the area.

Spent the day enjoying the beautiful flowers growing where there's usually nothing but sand, rocks and dead plants. For those of you from other parts of the country, you have to see this transformation to believe it. It really is incredible to see so much life spring from something that, for 45 or 50 weeks of the year, looks so dead.

Anyway, if you're interested, cancel what you're doing and go NOW. The bloom is already past it's peak. It's still beautiful, but go now...

Clark,

Beautiful shots. I'll have to put that on my list for next year. One way is better than 1300 miles for me. A little tough for a weekend ride.

Thanks for sharing.

Nice pics Clark, thanks. Try the Anza Borrego Resort/Golf club restaurant. Very good food at very good prices. Dessert at Julian (apple pie of course)..yum.

A good day: Breaky at The Lookout, munch lunch at the golf club and dessert in Julian. That's a 500 mile day for me...juST right.

Thanks for the pics, Clark. :) Saw them when the ground here was covered with snow. Most of the snow is gone now and our flowers are started to appear. Your timing was perfect.- john
