View Full Version : Heat resistant boots/soles?

My 03 1300 melted off the soles of the Gore-Tex hunting boots I was riding with, and now the same is happening with the boots I bought to replace them (Not a true biker boot, but still popular with the local LEOs told me the Cavender's salesman).

Looks like I need to try a pair of true motorcycle boots this time.

Any advice for a brand with good heat resistance?

Or advice on what NOT to buy to avoid another melt-down?

Only Sidi for me! ;) Currently wearing the Typhoons: http://www.newenough.com/boots/waterproof_sport_street_touring_boots/sidi/typhoon_gore_tex_motorcycle_boots.html

The On Road Gore-Tex are nice also: http://www.newenough.com/boots/waterproof_sport_street_touring_boots/sidi/on_road_gore_tex_motorcycle_boots.html

Sidi's for me as well. I've never had an issue with melting soles.

I use these. http://www.newenough.com/boots/sport_street_touring_boots/sidi/champion_air_motorcycle_boots.html

ConqSoft and Rob,

These SIDI look great. Are they OK to walk/hike with? And pleased with the water resistance?

Thx.

I really like these: http://www.cruiserworks.com/products.cfm#side%20zip%20anchor Men's Side Zip.

I like these too. How are they to walk around with?

Have you tried the boot version of it before settling for the zipped version? Zipping makes for fast entry, but am wondering about water resistance (like stepping in 3-4 in of water!)?

I have walked around in them but they are a boot. Wouldn't use them for a hike. Give them a call on the waterproof issue. I have big calfs so I am not fond of boots without zippers.

The "Air" models (like the Champion Air he listed) are all summer boots, that allow good air flow, so they won't be waterproof.

With Sidi, stick with the Gore-Tex or Tepor models if you want waterproof. The two I listed are Gore-Tex. There are other choices in the waterproof section as well: http://www.newenough.com/boots/all_types/sidi/ The Gore-Tex models are their high end boots, and I have found that the leather seems to be of a higher quality, and is more durable. I tried a pair of the Champion Tepors once (now called Sport Tepor I think), and the toe shifter pad started showing wear almost immediately. Not so with the Typhoon or On-Road models.

Sidi's are the most comfortable motorcycle boots I've ever worn, but you should test a pair out if you have the ability, to make sure they are comfortable on you. I've done a couple mile hike in mine before, but they're not a replacement for a nice hiking boot.

One or two mile "hike" is all I would be looking to do anyway. So that's sounds good.

Had looked at the of several Sidi offerings using your link and seen nice "Tepor" boots and you just answered what I was wondering about. They call Tepor "water resistant" which is not quite the same as GoreTex "water repellent". So for top of the line, like you say, looks like GoreTex is the way to go.

Thx again for the tips.

I couldn't find a pair of motorcycle specific boots that fit so I'm trying some Danner Acadia Elite 8" GTX Tactical boots (http://www.danner.com/product/military+boots/tactical/acadia+elite+8%27%27+gtx.do). GoreTex waterproofing, oil and chemical resistant soles, puncture resistant, leather and 1000 denier Cordura uppers, and extremely comfortable. I'm just having issues finding a pair that fits properly and am waiting for a half size smaller pair to arrive in the mail.

One thing I like also about these boots you pointed out, is that they seem like a good boot that could be worn at work too! I'll give them a call on the waterproofing. Thx.

The description says waterproof.

Have a high instep? Do you have trouble getting into slip-on boots? This is your boot! Finally, a waterproof side zip motorcycle boot…only from Cruiserworks. All the great features of the other Cruiserboot styles plus ease of entry.

Good loking boots! Remind me of my defunct hunting boots.

My riding pants are too tight to run the boots through, so am leaning towards a quick entry boot, without lacing.

researched boots not long ago. Sidi on road was the best with water resistance. www.motorcycecruiser.com has a good review that deals with waterproofing. The boot does very well with heat from the bike. I have worn them for days on end and a few miles walk. Recommend them.

I understand! Just thought I'd throw it out as an option.

The size 10's arrived yesterday and look like they will make a great fit but want to wear them around the house for a few days until they are broken in to be sure.

Expensive but extremely well built boots that are comfortable to walk around in all day long. I doubt their will be any issues with the soles as, like you, that was one of the things I was looking for in this pair of boot. I didn't care for the lace up boots but, for me, that wasn't much of an option. I have to be able to pull them in from the sides better than the other styles of fasteners are able too since I have a AA width heel and a A width forefoot.

Danner can rebuild them when the soles are worn out but I will see what that costs in comparison to a new pair when the time comes. Hopefully, I'll get two to three years out of this pair.
