Come and listen to a story about a man named Fred....
Wife wants to buy a Wing but it must be red.
Out in the garage there's a silver ST...
But Fred's in the bed and has to take a pee.
In a bottle. Texas Pee. Yellow gold.

Well the first thing you know ol' Fred's a millionaire.
First thing he buys is a brand new head o' hair...
Next thing he buys is a stable full of bikes
And now Arlene is beggin' for a trike.
Goldwing, that is. Three wheels. Red.

Yes plus a mileage contest.

I went to the doctor today to find out if I could put partial weight on my broken leg, thereby enabling me to cage it to the BBQ. He allowed as to how there were so many little pieces (apparently it shattered rather than just breaking) that, even though it was healing well, it would be mid-December before I could put any weight on it. I haven't given up yet. My wife may have Dec. 8th off and if she does she's getting a free BBQ lunch in Taylor for driving me there. Ain't I generous? :crackup

As an incentive, I'm going to tell her there's bound to be a red Wing there. :spank1:

As soon as you guys get settled on a time and route from the Houston area, how about posting where you guys are meeting. There's an outside chance I might be able to make it.

Speaking of breakfast, does your new residence of Fulshear have a good breakfast gathering spot yet? The last time I was through there I noticed that there appeared to be a bit of new contruction going on.

There has been a fair amount of eating establishments opening up here lately.

I was also thinking about heading to the Lone Star gig to check it out, if ya'll don't mind a tag along. Also, for anyone looking for a nice back road. Park Road 1 that runs between Bastrop State Park and Buescher State park is an awesome little ride. It's about 16 miles of curves thru the Lost Pines. Awesome little road detour. And the Roadhouse Cafe on the Bastrop end serves up some great burgers.

I better stay home and whine. I don't think my colon will accept BBQ yet. I hope everyone has a great time and someone show Dave what a real shirt looks like!!

Coop! Coop! How could you? It's Texas BBQ, man. Even your colon could accept chopped beef.

I want you folks to know that I really was looking forward to this run. I had recently joined the TWT board and was wanting to put some faces to names from that board as well as seeing some old friends from this board as well as some new ones.

Coop, you should go even if you don't eat, just to talk with friends you haven't been with for a while.

Dave (K) - I must have missed you there. It was a good turnout. Thanks again to Dave (B). I particularly appreciated that this joint had forks.

Also, good to see Fred, who is doing pretty well on 4 wheels these days. :)

Passed through Giddings on the way back and saw a restaurant that should be on everyone's list -- Ok, maybe not. (Had the old camera and had to dodge in, so I hope you can read it. Made me stop and take a picture, but *not* go in for a donut.)

Indeed it was. My guesstimate is 50+.

As for Fred, looks as if folks kept him from doing wheelies in the parking lot in his wheelchair. Nice to see him on the mend. Also, nice to see Joe and buddy again but unlike last time, there was no violent wind & rain storm in the middle of the northern plains. Also saw two Eds from STOC days and met George from Austin. Good folks, good Q!

Here's some pics:

These are just a few of the bikes:

Is this the winner for the long distance prize?:

Even an ST1100P showed up:

Well, I gotta tell ya, there are too many people to thank for helping me have an absolutely great day at lddave's BBQ RTE. If I left you out it is not intentional.

Thanks to ToroGuy and wife, Linda, for hauling my carcass to the RTE and back and helping me into the place as it had no wheelchair ramps that I could find. They're a great bunch of folks and never even complained once about my incessant talking (I babble when I'm happy). Thanks to Bigfish for helping me out the door and down the monster steps to the sidewalk. Being in a wheelchair makes me really appreciate what the "alternately abled" folks have to go through to do the simplest things.

And thanks to all who attended - what a great bunch! It was especially nice to see that bright ray of sunshine, Squeaky, from TWT. Always a smile (or was it a smirk?) on her face.

Thanks to all who came up and expressed wishes for my recovery.

One other thing: Seeing all of you out there and the bikes helped me to decide whether I'll ride again or not when I can get on 2 wheels instead of the 4 I have now. How could I miss out on all the fun? I still haven't decided what those 2 wheels will be attached to (my wife gets 51% of the vote and she says my next ride will start with "Honda" and end in "ing") but whatever it is I will be back.

Last but not least, thanks a whopping bunch to Dave for putting the RTE together. These are the times I enjoy most.

Dave (K) - I must have missed you there. It was a good turnout.

I tried...8 miles before Taylor coming up 95 from Bastrop, I have a massive loss of power on my bike, I kept it running and diverted to head over to 79/hutto/round rock in case it quit completely, would be easier to get help picked up/off I35..About 6 miles before round rock I had to stop for gas as the computer said I was getting about 8 mpg and the gage was dropping fast..Here's where it gets exciting..I pull into a shell station in Hutto and when I get off bike at pump, there are FLAMES coming from the bottom left of the bike! I push it away from pump and am trying to bat out the burring plastic while yelling for help to see if the station has a fire estingisher..One finally shows up and poof, flames are out. I called buddy in SA and he brought his truck up, we loaded bike and got it back home..

What had happened...Inside the shrink tubing on the jumper I had made to the left coils positive wire, to pick up the tach signal for the Cruise control, the spade terminal has broken, therefore no power to that coil, 2 dead cylinders that are still getting fuel pumped into them by the FI as the 2 cylinders on the right are still firing. Hence, fuel was building up in muffler/cat converter and being ignited by the heat from the crossover pipe, causing the pipe to get red hot...

When I stopped for the gas, the heat ignited the black plastic and I had flames. Looks like I Will probably need a left muffler as I believe it got cooked and there is a lot of rattling inside of it. The only other part needed is the black plastic piece below the middle fairing.

The wire has already been repaired (using much better connectors now) and she runs fine.

Exciting day!! :o:

Anybody have/know where a left muffler might be for sale? I of course will search/look on Ebay where I found a right one before.

The weather for December was good, the BBQ was great, and it was good seeing everyone plus meeting new folks.
Fred won the shirt contest, plus his wheelchair was neat.
Bob Hall ( 2001 Iron Butt Rally winner) won the long distance award, 1410 miles round trip from Albuquerque .
Bob said something about a great burritos place in New Mexico, so their might be a New Mexico RTE in the future.
The folks from Germany got prizes for the best craftsmanship on their bikes.
I want to thank everyone who made it to Taylor Saturday for making this another great BBQ RTE.

An influence? For sure! Positive? Questionable. Expensive? No doubt!

Old rascal? Coop, how could you? I'm as young as I feel. And I feel Arlene up against me several times a day. Now that's feeling young! :woo

OTOH, on a Wing, she'd be farther away from me than on the ST. Maybe that'll put a few things in perspective...:D
