Leaving Jacksonville Beach at 5-6 in the AM you will need a flashlight to see the sea. Or you can walk till you get your feet wet. You will need 2 containers for your sand and water, I used waterproof match containers, Transfer to the glass vials after the ride. Hang at the Shell station about a half hour to an hour before the start. Mix with the other riders, get witnessed, it's a good time to relax. When starting, go out of town at the speed limit. Carry plenty of water and drink it at every opportunity, hydrate. Maps, GPS, don't need no maps . It's I-10 to I-12 to I-10 to I-8 to San Diego. In SD stay generally in the left lanes all the way thru the city. I-8 dumps you out on a 2 lane road (Sunset Cliffs Blvd.) and a block from the ending Shell Station on your left. Congratulations. Watch your fuel out west, awful headwinds, 10-15 percent loss of mileage (once my fuel light was blinking at around 195 miles). When you get to the sign east of SD that cautions you about strong winds for the next 65 miles, believe it. You will need your flashlight again to find the sea. It's dark as a pocket around midnight PST. Oh yea, take the loop around San Antonio and the HOV thru Houston. Relax and enjoy the ride and good luck. Peter 2004 100CCC

Be smart, be safe, and accomplish your goal.

Next year, The beaST and I will be doing the same thing. I'm looking forward to it.

I did the 50CC last year, JAX to SD, and had a good time. Here are a couple of tips I found that helped me out. I went to Central Market and purchased dehydrated fruit (pineapple, banana chips, and catalope), cut them into bite size pieces and put them in a zip lock bag in my tank bag. I snacked on that and cliff bars cut into bite size pieces.

I use the zip lock bags with the easy grip slider which makes it easy to open and close with one hand in the tank bag.

When you get to Houston, use the HOV and when you get to San Antonio take loop 1604.

Watch out for the wind going up the mountains on the east side of San Diego.

I kept myself entertained with unabridged books on tape in mp3 format.

Have fun.
