I need some of your great opinions. :D

I have my V1 and it's remote unit, the Quartet harness and power plug which I am going to install. I have my left fairing off and am in the process of deciding exactly how to do everything.

Honda's specs put the power plug in the right pocket. Is there a valid reason for putting the plug in the right pocket?

My thoughts and plans (right now) are as follows:
- The V1 will sit at the top of the dash attached with velcro (same as in my Accord).
- put the plug and the V1 remote in the left pocket (since it locks). I plan to put the plug up high at the back of the pocket, since I have cut my inner cowls for ventilation and water could come in and hit the front of the pocket. I will attach the remote with velcro near the top at the read beside the plug.
- run the V1 cord along the wiring path up into the dash and out one of the the little slits above the speaker grill and leave enough hanging out to connect to the V1. The wire would just hang when not in use.
- run the earphone wire from the V1 remote along the wiring path to my Autocomm which is under the seat and attach it. (This lets me get the warnings in my earphones.

The only problem I expect is that when I go to put the fairing back on, I will need enough slack in my wires to connect everything, but not so much as to cause a problem. I am going to radio shack to see about some kind of wire quick disconnects I can have at the pocket for the V1 cord and the speaker cord.

How does this all sound or does anyone have a different way?

Should work....... But I thought the audio remote took over the control functions from the main unit. Can you still use the mute and function selection control when the remote is plugged in? Mine's all stuffed in a box under my work bench or I'd go check. (I never speed in a cage........ there's just no point  )

I don't know. I'll find out later I guess. I could put the remote (using velcro) somewhere more accessible I guess. Or I could leave the pocket lid open a little so I could lift it and push the mute button if need be.

Ooo - I just had a thought. With my plan to mount the remote on the motor side of the pocket, up high, with velcro - I could open the pocket, stick the remote up so high that the mute button would actually touch the pocket lid. Then (maybe) by pressing the lid I would activate the mute function. Maybe

I just Velcro mine to the top of the clutch res. and thew a cover (elastic edged food saver IIRC) on it if it rains. I had the V1 in the left pocket before but I'm looking to mount it semi-permanent up under the tuperware next.

I'm mounting it on the dash like in my Accord since I will use it in/on both. Unlike you, I have a tendancy to speed (maybe 10 over) in my cage too. I go to work early and the Xway traffic is light. Everyone is speeding. This way I can just move the V1 only from cage to ST and back.

Charlie (and friends),

Sounds like you did it, at least kinda, like me. I finished(?) last night. I put the socket in the back of the left pocket. Put the remote in there. Ran the earphone (I used the output on the front of the remote) wire back to my autocomm where it is under the strap for the tool kit. I thought I was in great shape as I had no left over parts when done. I fired up the beaST for a test ride and I could hear the engine whine and the clicking of ignition in my ears. I had run the speaker wire right over the coil. It seemed like the natural place to put it.

I rode over to TomZ's to show him. He has his ST on a blackjack jack and stripped completely. (He is installing a cruise control.) He suggested running the wire under the air filter.

I have thought about it and am pretty sure I am just going to put the autocomm in the left pocket also. Seems like a good place for it. Right by everything else. Easy access if I want to make an adjustment. I just have one decision I'll pass by whoever is reading and I'll also call Valentine for their take on it.
That is - power for the Autocomm:
1. I can tap into the leads for the power socket (it's right there).
2. I can find another 2 leads in the Q-harness to tap into.
3. I can connect the Autocomm leads to a phone plug and use the accessory side of the Valentine plug. I like this idea but my concern is that the leads off a phone plug are very small, a much finer guage of wire than the Autocomm leads, and I wonder if they would provide the juice needed or not. If I can plug into the Valentine plug it would be the neatest and simplest of the 3 alternatives.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Charlie,

I just got off the phone with Valentine's engineer. He said the Acc port is not a good spot to tap for the autocomm. It will draw too much (amps). So I will either just tap into the wires of the socket (it is fused) or tap into ? on the Q-harness. I just wish I had a plug that matched one of those available on the Q-harness.

When I am parked somewhere I will pop off my V1 and lock it in the left pocket with everything else.

Since I cut holes in my inner cowls, I have no heat problem. After seeing my cowls, my neighbor, TomZ cut a circular hole in his left one and glued in a rotating louvered vent from a car dash that he can open or close.

Thanks

Charlie, ...I just wish I had a plug that matched one of those available on the Q-harness....

You can get one here (http://www.2wheelinnovations.com/Honda_bikes.htm). I installed the Q- harness and used this plug to power my GPS and soon the autocom and heated grips...
