View Full Version : Windshield?

I've never owned a bike with a shield before. At it's present setting the top cuts across my vision about halfway. I feel as if I should either lower my head or raise/lower the shield. How high should it be?
On the positive side, got it out for the first time since I brought it home in November. Frost heaves are a bear! I'm in central Vermont, temp. in the 40's - briefly - and snow due tomorrow. Couldn't help myself.

My guess is that you must own a 2003 ST1300 without ABS. Is this correct? Reason I ask is that it was the only year and model that has been manufactured without the electrically adjustable windshield. I own that same model but I converted it to the electric windshield. What a difference. You can go from SO MUCH lower to SO MUCH higher than was possible without it. When I was riding the bike without it though...I just had to get used to the top edge on the shield being right in your line of vision. I know it's annoying, but you actually do get used to it.

I usually ride with it down or just below my line of sight. Didn't the 03 non electrical still have two different mounting positions doen with the bolt patterns?

Yup, it's an '03 alright. I took the bracket covers off once right after I brought it home, but it was just too cold to mess with it much. Warmer days coming soon, I hope. It will either go lower or higher, right? I'm assuming lower, which will increase turbulance. Maybe after experimentation, I will follow the advice and just get used to it. :03biker:

It's definitely worth the $$$ for the adjustable windshield. It's like night and day as far as practicallity is concerned. I actually waited for this to be standard on the '04 (and I wanted Blue!!) since I'd heard a lot of reviews on how useful it was.

As it happens, my buddy has an '03 and he was really happy when he converted his. He couldn't believe how he managed without it.

Yep, medium and high. The non ABS '03 shield could never go as low as the electric shield which in '03 only the ABS model had.
