I agree a very worthwhile addition!

I used mine when I was going to WeSTOC Boulder... they were great!
Then I forgot I had them as I was doing the Cascade route at WeSTOC Redmond... I *really* liked it when I remembered them!

Isn't it nice to find simple farkles like these that help extend your riding season. A tush warmer also produces a similar feeling.

My local Dealer told me that if you install heaters under any-old grip, the grips get soft and loose. He said the grips with built-in heaters tend to be much harder as well. I don't think I believe him because no-one here has said anything about it. I hope not because I just ordered Symtecs and plan to install new grips over top.
Any truth to his claims?

Only that the grips with built-in heaters tend to be much harder.

Mike I will let you know as time passes, for the cost the elements work great and I was able to use my choice of grips. I used stock for now. Pretty easy to change if necessary.

Symtecs under Beemer grips have worked fine for me for about 3 years now. I had problems with Grip Puppies slipping with my other grips.

Good luck.

Nope. Never had my stock grips with Symtec heaters get soft or loose. I've had them on one bike for six years now.

I would like to know the answer to that also. :)
I have it on my "round-to-its" to find me some bwm grips, but I don't have a dealership near me.

I got mine here: http://www.casporttouring.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=16025&Category_Code=cgid

To my door in about a week, even though they were backordered at the time I ordered. Not bad.

I have the Heat Troller controlled Dual Star heaters under the BMW grips.

Get so hot on max. high that they are too hot at 45 degree temps when I'm wearing my thin HD Polatec fleece gloves ! Setting seems about perfect at about 60% under above conditions.

The BMW grips are preferred over the stock because they are a bit cushy but mainly because they have cyndrical ridges that are flexible and the grips are a tapered shape that fits the hand, Very comfortable and conduct the heat well from the heaters. There are several threads about the BMW grips on this forum. A few of the threads include a link to a BMW dealer where you can order the grips online, I bought mine from them. Very inexpensive price for the BMW grips.

I researched all over the internet and decided to go with the Dual Stars because they "reportedly" get somewhat hotter (higher max. wattage) than the Symptecs although everyone I've heard of is also happy with the Symptecs. I believe either Symptec or Dual Star make a good product. There was some other minor difference where Dual Star provided some feature or component that Symptec did not, but I don't recall what that was.

Heat Troller actually sells the Dual Star heaters along with their own Heat Troller controller as a kit on their website. Dual Star also offers the Heat Troller on their website. The reason I bought from Heat Troller is availability at that time of the controller. Heat Troller had them in stock whereas Dual Star was awaiting a shipment.

After two failures of the Hondaline grip controllers on my 2001 Goldwing, I wasn't about to consider the high priced heated grips for the new ST1300A.

Hope this is helpful,

Supposed to be high of 30 Wed and Thursday. I look forward to testing the grips. It would be nice to be able to use my medium weight gloves instead of my Gerbings unless its really cold..Im not sure which brand I installed, bought from Aerostich...
