It was time for a visit with my family in Corvallis OR. Being spring break for my g-kids, that was all I needed to go.
Sat morning 3/19, 7am and on the road from SoCali. The skies were threatening and rain was due. It began to rain almoST as soon as I cleared my driveway. I chose the coaSTal route to avoid the high country of lower Cali, figuring I'd see how the high passes of NoCa and OR were doing with the STorms.
Up Hwy 101 in the rain with the heavyeST rain around the San Luis Res area on Hwy 152...Very heavy.
I STopped early for the night in Redding Ca at about 4;30pm. I'm glad I STopped then cuz the motels in the area STarted filling up quickly. Of course as I was settling in the rain STopped for a time and I used that oportunity to walk across the ST for a nice meal.
The morning brought more rain and off I rode at about 6:30 am. North on I-5 and I began the climb into some forcaST snow and NO ice on the road. The temp dropped to 34 and light snow was falling as I pulled in to MT ShaSTa for breakfaST at the Black Bear Restaurant. A very taSTy meal and the snow increased. The waitress called the number for road conditions and another diner comfirmed that juST a few miles ahead, the snow would STop..It did. The rain however, continued all the way to Corvallis. High temp for the day..45f.
After a very nice week with my family, it was time for the ride home. I checked the weather and Fri 3/25 had the beST weather for the run out of OR. At 730am on the 25th, off I rode. The ride was cool but almoST rainfree. My day ended at Santa Nella Ca. (650mi) with a nice hot shower and a full meal. I was going to iron butt home but I got lazy. This morning it was up and at 'em at 630am and home (300mi) by 10;15am.
As expected, the ST performed flawlessly and the trip was 1950 miles w/o issues. Gotta love this bike..67,155 miles now and rockin' 8)
My Richs seat and RK hwy pegs are worth their wt in STs.
