Is anyone on the board going to North East STOC?
http://vic.norton.name/moto/nestoc
There looks to be some outstanding routes chosen there. A couple of them go within 9mi. or so from me at the Ashokan Reservoir.

Hi Carl, I'll be there, this will be my first time attending a STOC gathering, should be a good time.
I'm planning on leaving Saint John, N.B. on the 29th of May, I'll probably make a bee line to the Ont border, take a hotel for a night then wander around Ont. eventually ending up in Brampton where I'll spend a couple of days with my daughter. From there I'll head to NESTOC and then back home.
It would be nice to hook up with someone who is going to NESTOC from Ont.

Carl and Peter, I'll be going. I am looking forward to meeting other ST riders. I'm also looking to share accommodations for the two nights at the BW Inn. Let me know if either of you is interested and I'll make the hotel reservations.
I just finalized plans for a week (June 5-11) of riding with my buddies in the White and Green mountains, so if you leave Sunday Peter, I'll ride back a small part of the way with you.
Anyone else want to ride up from the Tri-State area?

I'll be there for sure. Got the okay from the wife... I'm hoping to ride through western MA on the way there... maybe the green mts of VT on the return to NH. Should be some real nice riding that weekend for sure... Looking forward to meeting other riders and having a few pops poolside.... right now it's time to break in the new Corbin.... if it ever gets here.

John, I'll get my stuff together on this after I get back from vacation (start tomorrow). I'll see if my wife wants to ride along or not. We'd get our own room if so. Otherwise sharing would be fine if I would be on my own.
I attached a map of one of the proposed routes and put a purple/pink X approximately where I live in relation to it (near the Ashokan Res.). I was loosely thinking of following part of the route up, with a few changes in my own area, likely skipping the goat trail to travel up through Hunter.

Are any of you guys coming through my area on the way up? Which of the proposed rides are you thinking of taking Saturday?
Peter,
I rode the Goat Trail today to check out it’s current condition (it is closed and not maintained in the winter). It’s not officially open until April 15th, but there were cars and hikers on it checking out the scenery.
There are a few places along the trail that have some really nice views. Someone had thankfully already cut up the large trees that had fallen across the road. There are no guard rails on this one, but it’s not really an issue unless you were riding like a nut.
I wish I’d had a dual purpose bike instead of the ST though. The road is about 16 or 18 ft. wide max, and seems in one section like it hasn’t seen repair for 16 or 18 years either. Since I don’t lock tite my bolts on the STeed like a dirt bike, I dropped it to about 15 - 20MPH as it was fretfully bumpy through most of it. After it smooths out the rest of the road has not much in the way of redeeming riding features to speak of, and there are far more enjoyable riding roads to go to Hunter on, if you know them.
I wouldn’t take the Goat Trail with a passenger, as my wife would be very unhappy with the ride quality on it, view or no view.
This can only be called the most technical road in the Northeast, if you are willing to subject your bike to an on the pegs, dirt track style bucking blast. It is a technical ride if you are willing to subject yourself and the bike to a seated “rough ride”. It is a steep uphill crawl if you want to baby your bike like I did today.
I’ll probably go back once during the year (likely when the leaves turn in the fall for a picture or two), and suppose I would go with anyone that wanted to see it, but wouldn’t subject the bike to the rough surface beating otherwise as the payoff is too small in my view (and like I mentioned I know a smoother more twisty path to get to the same area).

Hey Carl I am heading out early Friday morning June 3rd I am going to be going up on the back roads through NW New Jersey or NE Pa. And then up to Cobbelskill Still dont have a route planed. What time would you be heading out?
Carl_T
04-11-2005, 07:18 PM
Peter,
You can take any of the other routes that use the goat trail, and I can tell you an easy way to circumvent it, beginning right where the trail starts.
It’s only a small detour, but more fun and you still get some scenery.
3d route down looks to contain the nicest route in my area, but I don’t know about up north. Again the goat trail is pretty simple to cut out and pick up the route again, right where the trail starts and ends.
Steve,
I’m still kind of feeling my way here, I think I probably could go Friday earlier or later. I was planning on riding one of the routes Saturday and likely coming home Sun. I was wondering if Jon (since he’s in CT) or any others were planning on coming past, near to me, in case a few of us could meet up and go up together from somewhere. I’m still trying to figure if I’ll be solo or two up as well.
It would be pretty easy for you to swing towards this way, but would you be missing any of your own favorite routes going up, by doing that?
Are all you guys signing up for both dinners or eating somewhere else Fri.?

Bones, Brian (GG), Ed (Purp) any interest in meeting up.
Steve if you are in no hurry to get to Cobbleskill we could arrange to meet somewhere along the way.
I'll be leaving late Sunday morning to meet up with some buddies for our vacation (June 5 - 11) in the White Mountains region. Sorry guys...I'm out for this one. This year is gonna be horrible for riding time for me. I can see it already. Here's my situation. My family owns a campground that opens on April 14th (this Friday) and closes October 15th. My father has had a heart condition for many years which has gradually gotten worse up till these past 3 or 4 months when it's really gone downhill. Doctors tell us that his heart has only 5 percent of it's strength left, so he needs a new heart. He's at Hartford Hospital waiting for a heart transplant. So besides going up to see him frequently, we are also one man down at the campground. Weekends are always the hardest time to take time off during camping season, but especially now with all this going on. To top it off, June 3-5 is our Country BBQ Weekend which is always VERY big! I have my reservations booked to go to eaSToc on June 23-26, but depending on if my situation changes or not I may even have to cancel that trip. Anyway, that's my situation for now. I hope it gets better.......and it will....just not yet. I still ride at lunchtime every day when I can.

I’m so sorry to hear that Brian. I’ll say a prayer for your Dad.
Scott (Bones), you probably have roads you want to ride instead, but if not, and your up to a small side trip, you could likely find a fun route down my way. It would be a bit longer, but perhaps not so very much.
I’m situated in Rosendale, N.Y. between New Paltz and Kingston on the map. I don’t know if you guys south of me slab, but New Paltz is Exit 18 on the thruway (making it super easy to find). If you take a left out of the exit, Shop Rite parking lot is on the left just through the light (or left at light and right into parking lot also). Meeting there would let us go up I- 299 and hop onto Interstate 44-55 which takes an extremely nice route over the Shawangunk mountains, past Minnewaska State park. There are some very nice laid-back sweepers over the mountain, with one tight turn and a couple of overlooks, with the road in excellent shape. The first overlook is always crowded with climbers and hikers, but the second one usually has enough room to take a picture of us, the bikes, and have some scenery behind us in the photos maybe. 44-55 is a fairly short run, and it hooks up with I-209. From there it would depend upon how far anyone has come, and how tired they are or aren’t as to which roads to take. It would be nicest to go past the Reservoir and on up through Hunter.
Fair warning, I do have one issue that anyone riding with me needs to know about, before they decide to ride along. I need to watch my license and avoid speeding tickets. I pretty much keep it around 5-6mph. Over the posted speed limit, but not more. On my STeed judging from traffic that’s 10mph over the posted speed on my speedo, as it seems to be registering around 5mph faster than I’m going.
By the time we go I’ll probably have that speedometer correction gizmo ordered and installed, so I don’t have to do the strange add 10% calculation thingie in my head anymore.
I tend to ride more like the article “the pace” and take it easy in straights and enjoy the turns, but still leave some maneuver safety margin, and also ride within what I can see and stop in.
The Minnewaska area and the Hunter Mnt. area have some nice pleasant scenery to look at.
I’ll either be alone, with my wife, or with my daughter, depending upon their schedules, work, and health.
Whacha think?

Well guys, so long as no one is completely tuckered out to start with, there is a route up that has enough turns to put a serious smile in the ride without exceeding the speed limit by more than 5. Actually we could hit a stretch of the twistiest secondary roads in my area that just happen to be going the way we need to. Then we can decide up around Hunter whether to take one of the proposed Routes the rest of the way up, or an easier going road the rest of the way. However if you guys already arrive to tired for that, we can stick to the interstates, or something in between. It's an easy thing to play by ear.
Maybe we can entice Bones to join up with us, he wouldn't have to drop down very far if he took 199 into Rhinebeck and then crossed the Kingston Rhinecliff Bridge on into the area to meet up with us.

This is going to be lots of fun, the riding and scenery should be at it's best in June.
My wife will get off work around noon or 1pm, so we can take the more fun and scenic roads up. That fist stretch out of New Paltz has a spot with some of the best mountain scenery to be had. People come from all over the world to climb the cliffs in the "Gunks". We will get some nice views of them, and a couple of views off of them. The road through that part of the mountains has some enjoyable longish sweepers and a tight 180 hairpin up there, though it is a crap shoot on traffic.
Sadly in the last 3 or 4 years my area's secondary roads have become like CT. They are all posted lower speed limits where everything used to be 55mph in the past. I think up towards Cobelskill it's likely still like that (55), though I don't know. It's a revenue thing as they patrol many of the best ones a good deal also (though more so on the weekend).
On a crappy note a Harley rider killed himself on the twisties climbing up to Hunter Mountain last week. Since so many bikes go to the area on the weekend, I'll bet they will redouble police testyness in that area. It was not the bike, a car, or the area road's fault. The guy was impatient behind some cars (there are only 2 short passing opportunities with no way to legally pass through most of the twisties [plus there are hikers walking roadside in one place]). He hit sand and gravel on the road/shoulder edge while going by the car on the right (passing between passenger side of car and guardrail), and impaled himself on the guard rail. That sort of move is unfathomable to contemplate trying to start with.
The roads here are to be respected, especially this time of year when winter sand and gravel can still be found on occasion mid turn. They should be all clean by June, though you need to look at the surface near farms or trucking gravel banks. That will be true of the whole upper N East area.
Enough of that, I mentioned it to point out why to doubly watch for Police presence around Hunter all weekend.
The whole area upstate is biking and scenery heaven. It's waiting to be enjoyed and we are the guys with the right bikes to do it. :)
John, it will probably take you an hour and a half or so to get up to New Paltz I think (if I'm right about where you are starting from). Will everyone need to eat lunch, or already have eaten?
Dawn said she needs to stop for pee breaks, me too after the prostrate cancer operation. :radleak:

If John leaves CT at his stated time (about noon), which would put him in my area around 1:30PM I think. John?

Well then, you guys are going to be at home and extra happy about some of the roads I have picked out to go up on.
Right now I’m still thinking the Shop Rite Parking lot is easiest to find and practical, since a Gas station is right next to it in case it’s needed.
I’ve got the Motel room, and Dawn and I are on the list of the NESTOC site now, but the Best Western office staff was out today, and I’ll have to get the dinner reservations tomorrow, along with ordering the Sargent seat (no teasing me about my pillow seats if it doesn’t get here before then).
There seems to be others coming from South on the list. One of the couples is in Danbury CT. John, do you happen to know them?

Don't know them, but I guess I will get to meet them. I won't laugh at your seat and my order is in for the Sargent. JuST one warning, I probably will brag about how geat my heavily modified stock seat came out and it is only with some serious reluctance that I am finally getting an after market seat. :D
Carl_T
04-26-2005, 10:00 AM
John,
I can take some seat heat, I’ve earned it. If I truly couldn’t take a bit of ribbing, I’d have just put pads on them for the trip and kept mum. Dawn hasn’t ridden on the seat yet since she’s with her brother in TN. He’s getting out of the Hospital today (yay!). However she says if my version is more comfortable than the Sargent, she wants to use it when she is on the bike, which is fine by me.
This was my first seat job and I learned a lot from it, including don’t do it with the wrong tools (which you occasionally can get away with) and wrong memory foam thickness (should have been ¼ not ¾ over gel) for the job. I could fudge and buy lambs wool seat pads for both of them and no one would know, or wait weeks ordering new foam, and spend umpteen hours fixing it. Then they’d look OK and they’d be mucho comfortable. I also am hoping the Sargent is well engineered, which I expect, hoping for the short way out and have a nice custom looking shape seat to boot . I can always play again with my stocker in the winter, when it’s not such a jammed up hectic year, if I decide I want.
Hey man, brag endlessly on your seat. It’s not an easy job to make look good!
I found your addy and emailed you and bones about a good possible way to come on in that avoids the slabs.
I’m making my dinner reservations and ordering the Sargent today. MAN the price of the Sargent is over $600 on their site (I considered paying full and sneaking a speed order in for the ride, but not at that much extra $$$$).
Hey Steve, you still have a job man? How did the powerlet turn out?
SteveST1300
04-26-2005, 03:54 PM
Powerlet went on just fine got all the plastic back on and everything still works I didn't even have any leftover parts or fasteners LOL. Carl if you have any non slab suggestions for me coming up from NJ I would appreciate it I too would prefer to stay off the Highways. The mapquest route is all NJTP etc. And I really don't want to get on that to start a vacation. If you can get me from say Greenwood lake to NewPaltz or just offer a few suggestions on roads I can try and program it all into the GPS. It will be my first time using it on a trip. By the way you guys will like the Sargent seat I love mine and so does my wife. Yes I can route you up from that area no problem. Probably through Chester/Washingtonville/Maybrook/Walden/Walkhill/ and then a little jog over to a bit nicer road and into New Paltz. Steve,
Here is a Routing suggestion to cut and paste.
START Rt 94 or route of choice to Chester NY
Right fork Rt 94 continue to Washingtonville NY
Left onto Rt 208 in Village of Washingtonville NY
Right at T Rt 208/207
Left just after River/pond (very soon/quick) Rt 208
Continue Rt 208 through Maybrook NY
Continue Rt 208 straight through light across 17K
(Orange County Chopper is nearby,
but not worth a stop, they aren’t into
shooting the shiznet, would rather work).
Continue Rt 208 through Walden NY
(208 turns right at a traffic light in Walden. Then long straight
out of the village. There is a School Zone badly marked on
that straight. They patrol it and give tickets WATCH SPEED
when the road bends a sharp left you are past).
Right turn Rt 208 in Wallkill NY
Continue Rt 208 over hill going out of Village, Rt 208
Right turn Rt 300 just outside of Village of Walkill in left bend
Left turn Rt 32 (Wyants St. or Berry La. is just too far…
meaning if you see them you missed Rt32)
Continue Rt 32 past intersection Rt 44/55 Then on into New Paltz, NY
Right turn Rt 299/Main Street at traffic light
Go through next traffic light and look for Shop Rite parking lot on Right.
Parking lot is just before another traffic light. You can also enter it by
Turning right at the light and right again into the lot.
END
:( ARGHH the formating doesn't hold when you post. Hopefully it's clear enough.

Happy to do it Steve.
227 miles? I'm glad I didn't send you past the mountains on the little bumpy roads. You need a little oomph left for the last leg of the journey.
I forgot you can program into GPS. Since you can, change one thing on the last bit of Rt 32.
Quite a few miles after crossing 44/55 intersection and heading to New Paltz on Rt 32, Jansen Rd. will come up on the left and just after "South Putt Corners road/County17" comes up on the right (odd angle jog, see map). Take South Putt Corners Rd. There is a school on your right on this road so watch speed.
The advantage is that just before you come to the red light on S Putt, you turn Left into Shop Rites Parking Lot without having to go through town at all. Just after the parking lot entrance and just before the light is a Sunoco Gas station entrance on the Left also, for gas and bathroom break (I haven't used this station). That way is much cleaner and easier, however I figured you would miss the S Putt turn, so I didn't mention it. If you do miss it no biggie, just go on into New Paltz and right turn at Main St.

Way cool about your Dad and brother :) I hope to get some neat landscape references with a little digicamera up that way. Maybe the covered bridges will look good also.
I know the area down my way some, but I have not been up as far as Cobleskill before, so up above Whindham it’s all new to me.
Today was supposed to be the warmest day for awhile, so I thought to myself, “It’s probably a good day to do some pre-ride”. Hah!!! Wrong answer!!!
I made my way up as far as Ashland. The temp had dropped down to 38 degrees in the mountains, and the wind started picking up real strong. The clouds got dark suddenly like they can in the mountains, and I thought “well they said no rain until late tonight, so it’s be OK”…that’s when I saw the rain drops on the windscreen and turned around.
It turned out to be a downpour in 38 degree temps. I could see some clear sky towards home, so I thought it wouldn’t last (optimism works sometimes). There was pouring rain and strong wind gusts the whole hour ++ home instead. At least when I dropped on out of the Mountains it warmed up to 45 which made it better.
The only thing that got hit with real water long term was the toes of my boots, the face shield of the helmet, arms, hands, and strangely enough my knees (not lower or upper legs). I stayed dry enough, but it was kind of cold, and the strong gusting side winds on wet roads I could have done without.
All in all I got a look at part of the route though. There’s some really nice scenery in the mountains, :hotpepper though the roads up there are still a bit gnarly. The ski slopes still have snow on them.
Bring your eyes and your attention ability. The roads may be fixed and OK by June, but right now there is still gravel in places in the turns and there were a few places where there was dirt and rocks in holes and ruts that got cut right through the blacktop during the winter plowing. The holes are just a bump, the ruts could catch a wheel nasty, so no sleeping at the switch.
There’s only a handful of places like that, and they will probably get to patching them up before we go. Winter does that to roads in the mountains especially, and the crews are used to spring patching. There is already some road fixing in the climb to Tannersville.
It’s a real nice route without a doubt though! If it hadn’t rained it would have been an a BIG smiley ride. The first half sure was. :)

Hi all, I have a non-smoking room booked for June 3rd and 4th if anybody is interested in sharing, there are 2 beds in each room.
Bones, I've decided to take your suggestion about riding a route through the States to Toronto rather than the Trans Canada, the route I chose will take a little longer but will be a much more enjoyable ride.
I'm leaving my daughters in Brampton on Fri. the 3rd to NESTOC, if anyone from the Toronto area would like some company on the ride there, let me know.

I did a pre-ride for all who are coming up with me Friday. There are pictures to wet your appetite in the Ride Reports section of this forum site. I was having too much fun to stop and get photos on 44/55 out of New Paltz, but that is some very cool scenery.
It's about 4 hours 15 or 20 min. up from New Paltz off the boring main interstates. It took me 5 hours, because I stopped in Tannersville and ate lunch for 3/4 of an hour.
Towards the end the back road route over to, and up Rt. 10, was not really all that fantastic, so I took a faster way home to check out those Routes. We can likely cut off about 20 minutes to a half an hour by going all the way up 30, and there are some nice views and lazy sweepers on 30 as well. I think it will be better.
I saw 3 State Troopers, and one local Cop giving a car just behind me a ticket (glad it wasn't me he was coming for, I was taking it easy).
I had a blast today, and took the faster way home (also not going all the way to New Paltz) for an 8 hour riding day. My buffooldled homemade pillow seat fix preformed outstandingly, I hope the Sargent matches it if it comes in time.
The riding is slower but more intense down towards New Paltz, and relaxes more up near the end of the journey, which is perfect for us.

SO, now that we've a better idea of the time involved (around 4.5 to 5 hours with a rest stop), I'm thinking that if it is possible to meet at 11:30AM in New Paltz (instead of 12 noon) we could all eat in New Paltz and be sure of starting out by 1:00PM after eating. That would get us up there in time to settle in, and still make the 7PM supper.
By the way, the Hotel has a small but nice indoor pool, it's a pretty good size place.
Can everybody make it to New Paltz by 11:30AM??? Is that workable from where you are all coming from??? No harm in getting into town a bit earlier if you want a longer rest break.
John, that would mean you and Bones would need to roll into my house around 11:00AM or so (earlier if you want to rest).
Lets hear from everyone as to if this works for each.
Carl_T

Steve asked about the meet time. From my taking the pre-ride up, it makes sense to shoot for a 1PM leave time in New Paltz. Anyone that wants to eat lunch with us in New Paltz would need to show up in New Paltz by 11:30AM.
Otherwise show up at New Paltz rested and ready to ride at 1:00PM. This allows us check in, and quick clean up time for the Friday night meal, which most have likely purchased.
Lets hear how this will work out for the guys traveling up.

John: Is Winsted still a good meeting point if we're lunching in New Paltz? When would we need to meet there to make Carl's house for 11:00? That will help me determine what time Eddie and I should hook up in Huntington.

To get to Carl's place by 11:00 we would have to meet at about nine if the Mapquest estimates are correct. I'll try a dry run if Carl will send me the directions early. We could meet in Otis which would make the trip a little easier for Eddie. Rather than travel down to New Paltz we could meet Carl and company near Kingston where 209 and 28 meet.
I have the day off so I'm flexible.

The view riding out of New Paltz, is actually one of the better parts of the scenery, so I'd like to keep the overall New Paltz lunch/embarkation point. However, I can surely meet up with you guys at the 209/28 junction and lead you on in to my house (which is right on the way to New Paltz). I'll send you guys coming in with John directions all the way in to my place via email anyway, but meeting up with you will not be a problem.

The 11:30AM meet for Lunch remains at the Shop Rite grocery parking lot on the corner of SR 299 (Main Street) and South Putt Corners Road. The gas station next to the parking lot should have a bathroom and everyone can gas up easily in New Paltz.
We will head down SR 299 (Main Street) going west towards the visible mountains. We'll ride right through town and take a right turn just before the steel bridge crossing the Wallkill River. That puts us on Huguenot Street, which immediately leads into the parking lot (a nice one for bikes) of "The Gilded Otter" which serves a decent reasonably priced lunch. Weather permitting, we can sit outside on the deck and eat overlooking the Road, River, and mountains. It's a good place to rest up and fill our faces for the ride. The only downside is it's a brewery and we need to resist temptation and drink other types of beverages. However we are men, and can manage that. Cobleskill should provide beer aplenty for any who want it at the end of the day. The easy to find location, outside deck, decent food and prices, outweigh this minor disadvantage.
This place will be a piece of cake for anyone to find coming from Shop Rite. It sits on the corner of SR 299 and Huguenot Street (the building is in plain view, the parking lot is behind it), and so anyone that doesn't meet up with us at 11:30AM can then show up at the Gilded Otter parking lot by 1:00PM to leave on the ride with us.
In a nutshell so far, gas up and meet at the Shop Rite Parking lot 11:30AM (John, Bones, and Eddie will ride in there with Dawn and I). Steve and Gary (Geared Up) will be riding up together to the lot as far as I know at this point. Then we head for the Otter for lunch.
If anyone decides they don't want to meet 11:30AM and eat in New Paltz, they show up at the Gilded Otter Parking lot by the Steel Bridge leading out of New Paltz by 1:00PM to begin the ride up with us.
We will see Peter up there.

Bones, Eddie, I'm all for meeting Carl at his place and taking in that first part of the ride. Eddie, I don't want to make this a killer day for you. If you don't think you can make it to Otis at 9:00 we could meet the group at 209/28. From Otis to Carl's ~2 hrs. From Otis to Kingston ~1 1/2 hrs. We could probably meet at 10:00 which saves us about 1 - 1 1/2 hrs of riding. Your call guys what do you think?
The easiest thing for me is to ride directly to Carl's ~ 1hr, but easy isn't in my vocabulary. :D

Eddie and John:
Working backwards from Carl's at 11:00, we could cut down on the number of stops, we (John, you and I) could opt to meet in Otis at 9:00. The Farmington River Country Store (NOTE: not called "Otis Country Store") has caffeine and facilities. It's on MA 8 just south of the junction with MA 23. From there we can continue west on MA 23, another great ribbon of asphalt into Hillsdale NY and on to Carl's
(for the pig roast:bow1: ).

Pig Roast? STeer Roast? Is that like the Friars roast where everybody gets together and tells jokes about the Pig or the STeer while they oink and mooo in appreciation?
Which one of you is going to bring the STeer and Pig? I want pictures of them with a STeer riding pillion!
Pictures of them with the Pig riding pillion will just be weird, but may be good for blackmail by threatening to send the pics to the transporters wife. A little Photoshop fake hair painted on the Pig and deep mistress accusation trouble could ensue.
The only way you guys are going to taste pork is if you bring pork chops in the hard bags, or buy it at the Otter (or ask at the motel to be directed to the free pig roast, just don’t hold your breath while waiting for it).
Fergets the blankity blank Pig already!
Steve, you could slab a bit down your way, then do Jersey roads to Rt. 17, take 17 to the Harriman toll booths and hop the NYS Thruway up the rest of the way. It’s about ¾ hour up from Harriman to New Paltz via Thruway, traffic should be plenty light enough in the morning.
New Paltz is exit 18. Take the first left after the toll booths, left at the next light onto South Putt Corners, then turn right into the Shop Rite Parking Lot. Shop Rite is a tiny ways from the Thruway Toll booths. I think it’s something like 50 cents at Harriman, and 50 cents at New Paltz for the Thruway.

That be Max the timid power ranger Chihuahua. He and his Bijon cohort in crime occasionally get to go for a spin. Between us taking them for walks and the Bijon working his butt out playing we keep him pretty trim. He's a cool little guy.
We got the carriers from a doggy store up in Lake George, but it went under after 2years and isn't there anymore. Max is perfect for it, the Bijon is 12 lb. and it's just a bit of a pain riding her size. A tank bag would be very cool, let me know if you find it again. They like to ride and would go more if it were more comfortable taking them. I can pop Max in anytime, but the other one would drop into depression city if I took him and left her behind, so they don’t go often.

Gilded Otter directions.
Ok STeve, I'll email them to you and Gary. It's really easy to find from ShopRite. You take a left out of the South Putt Corners Rd. parking lot entrance and to the light about 50yds. distant. Left at light onto SR 299 which becomes Main Street New Paltz (go West towards visible Mountains). Pass through 3 lights on SR299/Main Street. That brings you right through the whole town. After the 3d light you will drop down a Hill and see a bridge ahead spanning the Wallkill River. Turn Right just before the Bridge onto Huguenot Street. The Gilded Otter parking lot is at the top of the hill on your right. Come on in, we'll have a spot for you guys if you missed ShopRite meet.

I hope you get easy going traffic up Steve.
I think you are a good choice for sweep John. We’ll hold a riders meeting during or after lunch (before we start out) where I'll run through just a couple of quick points that should make it low stress fun for everyone where we can all at least do the turns according to our own normal speed and enjoyment, regardless of differences, free of worries over getting lost, and do away with any troubling problems due to rubber banding.
We've still got a manageable number with RWL1955 joining if he can, and we can make it a safe, smooth, yet interesting enjoyable ride up. Because of the road types, some of the pace will be dependent upon traffic, which is normally reasonably light that time of day in many parts of the route. Hopefully we’ll hit light to no traffic. As John mentioned the pace on the straights for my part, will be close to posted speed limits.
John, I don't have a radio, but will bring Dawn's cell phone along, so bring yours if you have one.
Guys, if you like pictures remember your digital cameras with charged batteries. I have 2 to 3 quick stops planned (depending upon turnoff availability in any one of two turnouts) where you might like a picture. There will be plenty of scenery through the weekend.
Oh yeah... John, I will bring my seat so you can see pillow lumps, no need to look at yours for them. @#$%***&@### Sargent didn't come through in time.

Mines low and comfey enough, just don't look good. :( I made Dawn's more comfortable than mine and agreed to let her use it even after the Sargent comes if the Sargent doesn't suit her.
Better keep an eye on that seat STeve, it might morph into a lumpy pillow seat when you're not looking, while John and I fight over who gets to use your Sargent, I mean the Sargent that just appeared out of thin air, that is.

I don't think you have to fear her she is a very mild mannered English lady. I brought home with me from my service days. :D

I lived in England for a while and found the mild mannered ladies there quite wonderful. Nothing like being called "Love" by the lady who serves you tea. Of course I can't comment on how English ladiies might respond to having their thrones messed with.

Dawn and I look forward to meeting you all. :)
Um, British... GOOD... Dirt raced a Greeves for a little bit, did lots of nonsense messing with the original old BSA 500 single Gold Star (not the newer dirt version). Cut my teeth learning flat track slides on a friends farm pushing a little Triumph Tiger cub around a home made oval (blew a rod bearing every other week). First car was a Triumph TR3 (scary tank slappers on rough roads). Lucas Electrics come from the Dark side though, no one is perfect after all.

Yes and 2 of her brothers ride as well one has a zed zed R 1300 Busa and the other a Triumph ST. Its a great country to visit. I lived there for 3 years and wanted to stay for more but uncle sam said NO! We are looking forward to meeting all of you as well. I hope next week flies. I just looked at the long range forcast it is calling for rain on the 3rd. I hope they are wrong. But will be riding no matter what.
See you all in a week. :03biker: :D

Rain??? Hope they are wrong, we've had enough. The mountains look better in the sunshine.
I went riding tonight between rain periods. Met the groups of deer crossing the road, otherwise a good time.
There is one change to the route sheet I sent you all. After we get on SR 30 and then West Fulton Rd. Cross out Sawyer Hollow Road and SR 10. the side trip is not worth the extra time. While I haven't ridden West Fulton to the end by 7 past Sawyer Hollow, the first part was an OK road, so it should be good.

You ARE the man John! That's a cool forecast even if it turns out BS. The weatherman occasionally gets it wrong on the same day, often failing to bother looking out of his window as a backup. Anything more than a day or two in the future is quadrupley suspect. However it jives with the Farmer's Almanac, so that's two sources...YAY! :clap2:

Hi Tom, Peter Crilley here, if you're interested, I have a room booked at the Best Western for the 3rd and 4th, there are 2 double beds, one is yours if you want it.
Also, I and a few others are hooking up to ride to Cobleskill on the morning of the 3rd, we are probably meeting in Oshawa, I've been in contact with Brian Rogers and will be calling him for the final details on the 2nd, why not give him a shout and see if it's OK to tag along. His e-mail address is on the NESTOC site.

Thanks for the offer Peter but I wouldn't dare subject anyone to my sporadic snoring. I don't mind staying at a different hotel, it's just a place to sleep. I'll be doing all my socializing at the Best Western.
I noticed your post earlier and seeing you ride from the Maritimes for NESTOC gave me that needed nudge to clear my schedule and get it in gear. I think I'm going to leave on the 2nd and check out the Finger Lakes area and take my time. It's been almost 6 yrs since my last ride over 5 hrs duration so I want to start off easy. I'm the opposite of an IronButt rider, lots of stretch stops (every 60-90 mins.) :(

Carl, just sent you my first (OK second) attempt with MS Streets and Trips. It has a nice user interface which was simple to pick up. I can see where this will come in real handy. :1st:
I called up the dealer servicing my ST and told him to hold off on the recall work if he can't do it by Thursday. The Z6's are there so baby will be sporting new sneakers. :D
Two more days to go!! :hotpepper :hotpepper :hotpepper

AgST,.. you're going to love those Z6's! I put Z6 in the front & ME880 rear a couple weeks ago... I love em. Nice traction & oh so quiet compared to the OEM cupped Dunlops. Great in the rain too.... sorry... I won't mention rain in this forum for now.
Looks great for neSToc... catch you & bones on friday morning. ....

Ditto on the new ST sneakers. I put Z6's fore and aft last summer.
So, John and Eddie, is the idea to arrive at Farmington River Country Store on Friday 9:00 or soon thereafter so we are riding again (all rest-roomed and re-caffeinated) for 9:30? Then we just follow the smoke signals to Carl's.

I'll be there a little before 9:00, just my anal personality. No caffeine for me or we'll be taking too many potty stops (trees work) :D . OJ is good though.
Eddie bite your tongue!! Don't even think think that 4-letter r-word. Got a map and directions to Carl's place. Trip time is about 1hr 45mins. If we leave at 9:15 and keep to the speed limits we arrive at 11:00. Everyone OK with this plan.
