My dealer does not stock my tires. Since my policy is to replace punctured tires, I am thinking of buying a set and putting them in a closet until needed. That could mean as long as six months. Anybody think this is a bad idea? Would wrapping them up in plastic wrap help? Thanks :)
I agree, they will be fine. STore them Standing up.

Thank you, gentlemen. Sounds like I've got a plan.

Why heck
I think its a good idea, as long as the tires arent exposed to sunlight, temp extremes {hot then cold} and ozone. If you got the extra funds go for it, I do and when its time for a new tire I hate to wait,or if the tire I want gets hard to find....so YEAH

Rule #1 when storing tires, don't store them under florissant lights, over time, the rubber will break down. Rule #2, try to store them flat but with paper or a slightly inflated inner tube to retain shape.

I store tires/tubes in the basement where it's cooler than anywhere else. We had a spare tire for a '29 Olds in our basement for decades and it still looked like brand new.

Motorcycle tires are different from car tires as far as long term storage. I've read on several occasions in different bike mags that m/c tires have about a 2 year shelf life from date of mfg. for being in like-new condition. The articles have always claimed that, over time, m/c tires will begin to harden -- which is bad for us. :)
Obviously, six months is much less than two years, so you shouldn't have any issue. I tend to ride fairly aggressively and probably wouldn't ride on tires that had been sitting around for too long a time.
My current set of Z6's sat in my garage for about six months before I put them on. They stick to the road like hot glue...
