Accommodations Updated Reservation List - See Post #150!

Reservations made early (in my name) to get what we want to include cabin space for non-campers (e.g. me). Already paid for.

Campsites 14, 15 (same as 2007) and 16 have been reserved.
Pull up to the gate, "Hi ya, I'm with the ST-Owners group camping. They'll take your name, give you a pass and a park map and tell you where to go (camp site, that is!). Pay me $5/night (exact change, please). We can "legally" put 4 on each site (12) but if a "visitor" or two show up and get "stuck" for the night - I don't think anyone will be counting.

Cabins 2 and 3 have been reserved
(across the main road from campsites)
(Sleep 4-6: 1 BR w/queen OR double, 1BR w/2 singles, 1 Queen pull-out; full bath)
Pull up to the gate, "Hi ya, I'm with the ST-Owners group in cabins 2 & 3. They'll take your name, give you a pass and a park map and tell you where to go (cabin, that is!). Pay me $20/night (exact change, please). Again, if we have an extra "visitor" or two who just want some floor space - I think it won't be a problem.

Hotels: Lots in the area.
There are hotels within a mile or two, the closest is the Holiday Inn Express, less than 1 mile away (352) 304-6111; 5360 E Silver Springs Blvd., Silver Springs, FL, 34488. Last year I (and several others) stayed at the Inn & Spa, 1/8th mile East of HI Express and about 1/2 the price, 5751 E Silver Springs Blvd, Silver Springs, FL 34488, (although it had had some bad press, it was fully renovated, with new management by the time we got there - stay was great).

Note: Places I'll be eating may change depending on the Shuttle Launch schedule!
Meeting places and times where I'll be, all in Silver Springs:
Breakfast, Thur, Fri, Sat & Sun at Bob Evans. 9am. (4985 E Silver Springs Blvd) They treated us great last year.
Dinner, Thur at El Toreo. 6pm'ish (3790 E Silver Springs Blvd)
Dinner, Fri Dogs'R Us? near Titusville
If shuttle launch canceled - Dinner, Fri at Pronto Pizza. 6pm'ish (4920 E Silver Springs Blvd)
Dinner, Sat at Denny's, 6pm'ish - Prizes (5751 E Silver Springs Blvd)

That's all I have for today. Come one, come all and have a ball.

Hey Shuey,
The dates for next year work fine for me. I'm not real particular about the place, but I'll give it some thought and see if I can suggest anything, although I'm sure all of you who are native or at least long-term Floridians probably have much better ideas for locations than I would come up with.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Yeah.. glad they didn't spot motomac aka Paul Bunyan when he was downing trees... that campground had a lot of rules but they didn't really hassle us at all and we probably made more noise then we needed to.. LOL

The real funny part was saying buy to egar then saying hello again after he got turned around in the trees trying to find his bike.. LOL:cf1:

Just checked, and for those of us who prefer climate control to camping, there are 10 cabins across the main road from the campsites. They were all booked up for this year but cannot be reserved for our dates until Dec 13, 2007 at 8am - they're all available! $100/night, have 3 beds and a pull-out coach - split 4 ways is $25/person, cheaper than a hotel.

I'm thinking 3 campsites on one side of the road and 1 or 2 cabins on the other and we're all together to share the blame for creating the Silver Springs Desert!

Plenty of time to fine tune the ride route, maybe shorten the longer routes a little and add on the other curve in Florida - go back to Ozell and Sugarloaf Mountain . . . Sounds like the start of another plan for a great event!

What do ya'll think? If dates and location are good, let's put it on the schedule. :D

My next long trip is probably Death Valley in January 25-28; a very SToc'ish BMW get together. My wife has actually shovelled and chipped ice to get me out the Missouri driveway (won't have that problem this year) and on my way to Death Valley Daze......

I will be; always interested in company - planned stops on the way out are - Lafayette, San Antonio, Tucson, Death Valley. 500-900 miles a day, camping.

Then probably a couple days in LA and San Diego and return cannonballing (2/1200 mile days; mid point arountd Abilene).

Nothing's in concrete and might take 3 days on return. :D

Hi Everyone,

Since I am a newbie to the world of ST's, I am kind of ignorant about the STOC events.I purchased an 05' a few months ago, I live in Bryceville, Fl. and would like to attend, make it a day trip.

Do I need to sign up? Or just show up? What else do I need to know to attend????

Thanks Vern

So Shuey... you reserved the sites already? So what do we do this year, just show up and we'll split up the costs? I know last year I had reserved the site myself, but if you've already reserved the sites thats great too. I just want to make sure there's a spot for me, so let me know if I need to call silver river to get a site, or are we all set.

Wow, stuff is start'in to happen.

Vern, look'in forward to meeting you. If you're (or anyone else) just coming in for the day, like Mellow responded, just show up. When we get closer to the event start, I'll be posting some gathering spots for breakfast (where we had the biggest assemblies last year.) Join us there or at the campground. I don't think anyone had a problem getting in to the park during the day who was just there to visit. I think you'll have a great day, but, if you can stay a night, gathering around the campfire and not needing to head home late at night is certainly something I recommend as worth some thought. It'll help my planning if you could indicate in the Poll when you might be there - even if plans change.

Everyone, I've got 3 camp sites and 2 houses already reserved. If you're coming, or think you're coming - sign up. I'll keep an eye on the sign-ups, first come first served. When the date gets a LOT closer, if there are lots of spots left, I'll adjust downward and save a few dollars.

Anyone remember how many bikes they let on a site last year? 2 or 4? They allow two cars per site, so that's 8 wheels - same as 4 bikes (12 total). I'll check with them latter this week to confirm. If it's only 2 per (6 total), I'll pick-up a couple more spots, hopefully in the same area. I'll find out and put the answer in Post #1 for all to see.

Brian (et al), just pay me; and no Canadian coins! Sites and houses are already paid for. My goal this year was to have more of the group at the park instead of spread around town heading back from the campfire late at night or missing out on the most excellent stand-up comedy. (Can you say "corn snake?")

I'll be making several trips to work on some routes and maybe a new place or two to gather for food - maybe have some kind of a cookout at the park.

Anyone has some time to ride, maybe we can get together to explore and share notes to come up with some interesting routes that show off what Florida has to offer.

Nov 13th, Thursday, launch at noon? I can be there, then head down to Silver River SP. If anyone else is interested, maybe someone who knows that area can suggest a good eating spot with a launch view, if there is such a place.

Thanks for the 4/site note Brian. That's what I remember also, but I'll check with the park rangers to be sure before I update post #1.

I'm up in Cashiers, NC, for the week with wife in our van. Checking out waterfalls and finding some new places to eat, first time I've been in this area and not on "Wolf." These curves are darn tough when you can't lean into them!

The launch is about 25 miles from my house. I'll be driving up US1 to get to FLSTOC. I'd be willing to meet for lunch. I'll have to check on eating establishments in that area.

Wait, this is a Delta and not a Shuttle launch. I would recommend Cocoanuts on the Beach in Cocoa Beach FL. You can sit outside and have a good view of the launch facilities. You won't be right on top of the launch, but the scenery is good on the beach.

There are a couple of places at Port Canaveral which are closer, but I'd have to check on the view of the launch from there. No beach babes, but it's always fun watching people put their boat in the water there.

Shuey, do you have me down for a camp site?

On my screen while viewing the "Poll" I can select one of the numbers showing the response count for any of the questions and it refreshes showing, by user name, who responded. You're on the list to arrive on Thursday! :)

I've never seen a launch and am excited about the possibility. I'll be there. Anyplace with a good view and photo opportunity would be great - thanks for the help.

The Delta launches go off further South than the Shuttle launches. I think the best place to watch and eat would be Port Canaveral. Grills would be a good choice. A little further down the coast is Cocoanuts on the Beach. Both places have outside eating areas. If it's a warm day, there can be plenty of scenery at Cocoanuts on the Beach. I think both locations would be good for viewing. I used Google Earth and tried to create a map of locations of the launch and viewing areas.

I'll have to take a ride up to the Cape and have lunch one day and check out the launch view. I know Cocoanuts has a good view (I perfer the wild life up there) but the Port is a lot closer. There are a couple of silos there but it's always a fun time watching the boaters put in and take out at the park. Weekday probably isn't as good as the weekend when everyone is trying to get in and out quickly.

Yes. I attended last year and am trying to figure out which days I can attend this year. I may convince a buddy in Satellite Beach (who rides and RT) to join me for the adventure. It shouldn't require too much coaxing as we rode 2,150 miles through five states in June.

Lodging information:

I checked in with "Walter the bearded ranger" yesterday at Silver River State Park to clarify cabin and campsite limits. I've already reserved 3 campsites and 2 cabins (for we non-campers).

Campsites: "You can put as many people in each one as you like!" Limit is 4 tents per site. I have sites 14 and 15 (ones we had last year) as well as 16 (backs up to 14 and 15 through the woods). That's 12 tents. (Then again, who's counting?) ;)

Cabins: "Sleep 6" well . . . there's one BR with a double bed, one BR with 2 single beds and a pull-out double couch in the LR. There's plenty of paved parking out front (4 lined spaces) and plenty of floor space. Plenty of room. :)

There'll be a sign-in list at the front gate. Pull up, provide name ("I'm with the ST group"), get gate code and pass then head on in. Pay me later. How much? I'll have some pics and prices in another update.

So . . . if Winter time is down time where you live, make plans for an end-of-year ride!

You're welcome Mac. Looking forward to seeing you there, if not sooner! :D

I'm working on shifting the focus from the roads to locations of interest. Still searching and was led to a great motorhead place in Frostproof, FL, yesterday. A nice sized shop where the owner refurbs old cars, ones he's collected up from behind old barns, that kind of thing. Does good work, then sets them out for sale. Old DeSoto's, Packards, Model ? Ford, Rambler . . . you get the idea, stuff from the 30s to 70s. Finished ones are for sale - most for between $7k-$8k. I couldn't believe it! There's a great place to eat on the edge of town also, so will explore routes to get there and back. Have a couple more in mind, we'll see what shakes out.

If you get down early enough, there's a noon satalite launch planned for Thur from Cape Canaveral that we can view from "Grills." Great food also. If the schedule keeps I've never seen a launch, so will go there for lunch then head over to Silver Springs.

Time's just flying by. Look'in forward to hearing about your travels.

Just looked at the Shuttle schedule and there is a launch scheduled for Nov 10th which could easily slip since they are having trouble rolling out the next launch due to tropical activity. I don't see them rolling out this shuttle until some time next week which could put a delay of a couple of days in the next launch. Also, this launch is scheduled for a night launch which are breath taking. We can only hope for a three day slip.

Bill, I'm psyched; never seen a launch much less a night launch. Plan on riding over on Wed and spending the night on the coast then head over to FLSTOC on Thursday. Is the area around Grills (if I can get a room nearby) a good viewing spot for shuttle launches also?

BlaSTr - want to split a room?

For those coming to FLSTOC who have never seen a Shuttle launch, the launch date is 12 Nov at 8:43pm. If you've never seen a Shuttle launch, night launches are the best. They light up the whole sky. Here is a link to keep up to date on the launch. Link (http://www.kennedyspacecenter.com/launches/scheduleStatus.asp)

Anything on the coast in that area is a good spot to view a Shuttle launch. Also, the Titusville area is also good.

I am curious abt this event so I did a google map for directions and came up with 2 Silver Springs locations...one is in the Panhandle near Pensacola the other near Ocala(sp?)...so which is it.This would be the longest trip to be attempted on any bike I've owned in the past 32 yrs.I seriously doubt I am going...time is just not available to me this year.Jeez I know alot of folks from the NE i could hook up with to get there...too bad I didnt think abt doing this earlier.:(

So Bennie, you want me to come up and escort you down?
We'd have to leave on Tue to make it down in time for the shuttle launch on Wed evening! Then on to Silver Springs, just East of Ocala for a great weekend with friends.
Then again you could just pop some stay-awake pills and follow Brian and Kempo down.

Because of the hurricane and delay in training, the next two Shuttle launches have slipped 4 days. The Shuttle launch is currently scheduled for Sunday, 16 Nov @ 7:07pm. I think the launch orginally scheduled for the 13th has been moved up to the 7th to accomidate the Shuttle launch.

I'll post prices for camping and cabin (neither is filled up yet), eat times/spots (mostly the same as last year - which were great) and activities. Regardless of what the activities are, they'll be great people there and evenings around the campfire are "worth it." Plus, where else are you going to see so many really cool bikes in one place? Vern and I rode a new route yesterday I laid out for FLSTOC 2008. I wanted to check and see if I have gotten better at using Mapsource and creating GPS friendly routes. I'm pleased that this one did not cause Jill to recalculate even one time. It's a 95 miler that I think some of you will find interesting. There are several other routes on the sticky from FLSTOC 2007. I plan on cleaning them up for 2008. The riding will be better than you ever imagined in Florida if riding is what you might want to do while you are here in 2008.

Hey Shuey, put me down for one XL. Unfortunately, I have a niece getting married in Las Vegas (of all places) and my wife is going out for the wedding. I'll just be coming off vacation from an elk hunt in Colorado, so I am not going, but I do have to be home to take are of the dog and parrot. Thus I am not going to be able to spend any nights, but I will be riding over probably Friday evening to enjoy the campfire, then back home that night, then come back over early Saturday morning for most of the day. It's only about 45-60 minutes from my home in Palm Coast, thank goodness. I've been looking forward to FL-STOC for a year and I'm bummed out that I won't be able to camp! I live in central Brevard and only have to take a short drive to the coast. I know it can get pretty crazy in north Brevard. I would recommend watching from Titusville. If we go the the beach, it will take a long time. If we go north on US1 and stay off 528 I95, and other major roads, the traffic shouldn't be too bad. It will be a late night getting back to the camp. Now that I'm back from a trip to PA, I'll try to plan a route to and from the camp grounds.

Anyone in the Titusville or north Brevard area have a recommendation on a place to eat. I was thinking Dixie Crossroads. However, we won't be able to watch the launch from there, we would have to get out to US1 to watch the launch. If we get there early enough for dinner, we can get out to a site to watch the launch.

Roy, glad to have you. Have plenty of cabin room so far, so you're in for 2. You can click on the numbers in the poll and it'll show who's signed in for what. Cabins have 1 BR with queen or double, 1 BR with 2 singles, and a pull out couch in the living room.

Poll doesn't indicate if someone is signing up just for themselves or more than one. I'll look through the thread and update the count on Tuesday.

Don, your signed up, no problem. I count 9 in the cabins as of Fri, room for 10 if there's a couple for each cabin in the "private" bedroom with the large bed.

The Shuttle launch is still scheduled for 14 Nov at 7:55pm. I've attached a recommended route from Silver Springs to Titusville and back. I kept the route off the interstate but it will take a little longer. If you want to make time, you can just take I95 to SR40. The route takes you to http://www.dixiecrossroads.com/. If we get there early enough we can eat and leave in time to watch the Shuttle Launch. This is just a recommendation. I understand that traffic can be pretty heavy after a launch so expect to have a slow ride back. If you've never seen a night launch, you won't be dissapointed.

Joe Sears at SpoiledBiker.com has volunteered as a sponsor for FLSTOC this year. He's been a long time supporter of our group and really treated me right as a customer and as a friend. He's providing several discount certificates that'll be given away on Saturday (I think depending on the shuttle schedule on Friday).

He has good products at the right price AND he really supports what he sells. Check out his site, I think you'll like what you see.

Thanks Joe!

I got my MC Cruise from Joe several years ago(when the price dropped from $575 to $475) and was amazed at how quickly he got it drop shipped from Australia. He sent me an e-mail explaining it had to come from Australia and probably wouldn't be at my place until the following week and it was at my door the next day!!!

mitch96 and SilverSTreak and all interested,

Thursday night I've only got one cabins worth of people and two cabins, so there's plenty of room that night if you want it.

Friday night looks full, although there's plenty of floor space if you've got an air mattress and sleeping bag. I'm checking to see if can reserve one more cabin a for Fri and Sat nights. Will update tomorrow.

Roy,
The space is yours for one night, and that fills up one cabin for Thur. Sign up on the "poll" please. Glad to have you.

There's still one cabin empty on Thursday if anyone wants a night. Fri and Sat are full for both cabins (tried and couldn't get another for Fri and Sat).

Thank you, Roy

If you both want a place, WITH SEPARATE ROOMS on Thursday, there's cabin space available. No space for Fri, but it'd reduce your cost for one night at least. You'd be welcome. Then again, might be easier to just check-in to a hotel and not move stuff around. Up to you. Either way, looking forward to seeing you both!

Hey George, look'in forward to whenever you get here. If you're early or staying later, you'll need a campsite when you check in. I expect that Wed. night and Sun. night shouldn't be a big draw at the park, or be any problem planting yourself on Site 14, or 15 so you don't need to move.

Have fun and ride safe. I DON'T recommend a high mph on the BRP!

If you are going to watch the Shuttle on Friday, I wouldn't expect to be back to Silver Springs until 11:00pm. I've never watched a launch from the Titusville area, so I'm not sure how heavy the traffic will be. If you want to get back quickly, I'd recommend taking I95 to SR40.

Bill,
I'm heading down tomorrow (Thur, 6Nov) for some more recon and coordination. If the launch schedule holds, I definitely want to go watch. Watching the shuttle and, if possible, being where food is available would be the ideal. If not Titusville (maybe Dixie Crossroads), is Grills still a good choice? Other suggestions?

I'm thinking the blast-off is big enough that we don't need to be right on top of the pad to get a good view . . . but how close is close enough? :)

I've got my bosses boss coming to visit tomorrow so I can't get off work to meet you. I can meet you after work (wife and kids will be doing something tomorrow night anyway)

If you watch from Titusville, you would be looking to the east and the launch would be closer and across the Indian River. If we go to the Grill, the launch would be to the north and but the flight path will take it over the ocean. Both locations would be good. I actually perfer the beach, the Shuttle will light up the whole ocean, it's a beautiful sight.

Due to traffic, travel from the Grill would take longer. I actually perfer the beach. Either way, we should get there early to eat. I recommend we fill up before we eat. Depending upon traffic, the trip back could take a while.

I've seen one from Plan City once, it was not close but you could still see it which was cool.

I see the long range forecast has rain in the campground on Thur so there's a chance they'll cancel due to weather on Fri but I hope not, it would be cool to see.

Either way I'm good.. watch the shuttle w/friends or sit around a campfire w/friends.

We are entering our typically dry season in Florida, but as cold fronts come through we can get rain. Hopefully, we will have chamber of commerce weather for FLStoc. If the weather is good, we'll get a lot closer than Plant City.

OK...John and I have a plan now so we know we'll be arriving at Silver River on Thurday early afternoon. We're gonna spend an extra night in the Deals Gap area to take in some of the nicest roads on the east coast. We leave this Saturday at 0500 and we'll spend the first night at Longs Campground in Lexington, VA. Then we'll ride about 275 miles of the BRP and spend the night at Grandfather Mountain Campground. Then we'll do the next 230 or so miles to Ironhorse Motorcycle Campground for Monday and Tuesday nights giving us Tuesday to ride the area. Then on Wednesday we have a long 10 hour day to get to Gulf View Campground in Eastpoint, FL... Just west of Carrabelle. And then on Thursday we'll have an easy 4-5 hour day to get over to Silver River. I'm ready!

There is an unabstructed view across the Indian River Lagoon of the Kenedy Space Center. A couple of things you should know. It's $10 to park on launch day but you get $10 off at Dogs R Us. Since two bikes can fit in one spot, it might only be $5/bike but we couldn't confirm. Also, the place doesn't take checks or credit cards so bring cash.

Just got back from a little recon trip to the area with "BluesRider" and it was a beautiful day.

If anyone has area routes they'd like to share I know they'll be appreciated. Some riders are already on their way.

Bob Evans is across the street from Wal-Mart in Silver Springs, a hundred years or so West of the Rt 35/40 intersection - very easy to find (IMHO). 9am Fri, Sat and Sun is where I'll be eating breakfast.

CAMPERS NOTE: are you interested in having some firewood delivered to the campsite? I'm going down on Wed and can probably arrange something if ya'll want to chip in. Wood at the park ranger station is $5 for 10 pieces of split pine - probably burn up in an hour (or less). I found another guy selling a "stack" of split oak for $10 that'd probably be good for an evening for most folks. He's going to check on what it'll cost to get some delivered to the site and will give me a call. Chime in if interested.

I'm in St Augustine right now and it is 72 degrees. Carole's in an Outlet Mall and I may have to set up camp in one of the grassy areas. We still have to go to the other half on the east side of the interstate.

I think I got it correct, this is the route to Dogs R Us. Just across A1A is a good spot to watch the launch or just from the parking lot itself. Ride back will probably slow until the traffic thins out. Hope I got the mapping thing down.

OK Gang,

Here's some routes that are guaranteed to please...

The routes are from the State Park to a nice seafood joint out at the end of Ozello Trail (AKA Florida's Dragon) and back an entirely different way. Total riding time for the round trip loop (not including stops/lunch) is approx. 6 hours covering just over 300 miles of some of the twistiest back roads central Florida has to offer...

See y'all there!

Bill,

That is a good route there, we did parts of this ride last year FL STOC 2007and I made up some other routes that took in some other parts of it as well. Perhaps Mellow or Shuey can move the routes posted at the top of FL STOC 2007 to FL STOC 2008. I also made up a new 95 mile route for this year. It's posted below. Besides what elevation changes this area has and the curves, you might see million dollar horses next to zebra, gazelle, and water buffalo.

Alas, I won't be able to ride this year as my collar bone isn't healed enough yet at 3 weeks after the break. I might drive the car down for one meal though!

Yeah it suks down here, Todd..... We did the entire length of the BRP then we did the Smokey Mountain Pass then we made our way over to the Foothills Parkway then the Dragon and 28 into Ironhorse. Me and John are exhausted and this suks cus there's so many more roads to ride out here.... Oh well, there's always tomorrow:D

Trying to scratch my way over there to meet up with y'all.

Does anybody have any tent space available on a campsite for Friday and Saturday night if I can break loose? I'll be coming in very late and will need the gate code and site number so I won't have to wake anybody up.

I know this is late notice but there's a very slender chance I might be able to pull this off.

give me a call if you've got space available...251-709-8200

I arrived in the Sunshine State on Saturday to visit my son in Winter Park and cousin in Orlando. Yesterday I relocated to Jacksonville where it's always a good week at the Hyatt. Darn the luck !!

Looks like the weather is turning wet later in the week. Oh well . . .

LOL..We can always share a virtual beer LOL..

Reminds of this year's Ontario STOC when my family was in the car heading to Saratoga for Horsey Racin and Bones made sure to call so I could join in on Oh Canada around the campfire...
So picture an idiot in a 97 Corolla, singing oh Canada at the top of his lungs into the speaker phone with a family that wanted to jump out of the car at 70 mph...FUNNY

Book me for next year though, and make sure you give Mr Sandman and Company LOTS OF CRAP for not coming to CT STOC...wait a minute, you weren't there either! (Shuey gets a "Bear Pass" :p:).. There is always Campstoc though..

Yeah, sure was, Joe. The ambient temp gauge on my ST read 34 dg F that Saturday morning. See the attached picture!

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again. As I said in an earlier post, I can't spend any nights, but I will be at Bob Evans in time for breakfast Saturday morning (if all goes according to my plan) and plan to spend the day and maybe attend the prize dinner (after all I did win the Spencer modification last year :D ), then ride back home, get in the Grand Cherokee and drive down to the Orlando airport in time to pick my wife and MIL up at 11:00 PM.

Kemp--we'll sure miss you, bud!! Shuey, you will have me an XL t-shirt there Saturday, right??? How much are they anyway? I must have missed that somewhere.

Ride safe!

Yea it was cold last year. I went to Wallyworld and bought a heater and extension cord so I could keep the tent warm. Us FL boys can't handle the cold. At the camp ground it was freezing in the AM. I had to clear the frost off the seat. Attached is the picture I took of the temp on my bike.

FYI on the Wx..

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) -- An approaching cold front could thwart NASA's plans to launch space shuttle Endeavour on Friday on a flight to the international space station.

The front was moving across the central part of the nation Tuesday and was expected to bring rain and thick clouds to the launch site by week's end.

Shuttle weather officer Kathy Winters said there was a 60 percent chance of acceptable conditions at the 7:55 p.m. Friday liftoff time and only a 40 percent chance on Saturday.
