Barry,

Got the clear near OEM size Rifle and can tell a big improvement in noise and buffeting at interstate speeds. Looks much better than the Honda clown-style shield. Don't have to raise the shield near as much to to get quite air behind the shield. I guess those tuning blocks or the shape of the Rifle or both really work. Too bad the Rifle is constructed of lucite vs, lexan which has more impact resistance.

Is this the "S" model and did you get the stock size or larger?

"Rifle"? You'll have to explain that one for me (us Kiwis must live sheltered lives).

Also, what's the black stuff around the mirrors and what's its purpose?

Hitcher,

"Rifle" is a US company that makes windscreens for a variety of motorcycles. Check the link: http://www.rifle.com/. I purchased the standard S-version which is similar to the OEM screen except does a better job with wind deflection and in my opinion looks much better than Honda's. One of my post-retirement plans is to spend at least a month down on your end of the planet to ride the roads w/o the wife on the back. Only dreaming, she'll likely be with me! Best wishes and ride safe.

Hitcher, the black stuff around the mirrors is a Honda accessory (Mirror Deflector Set) to assist in deflecting the wind around the rider. Check out the Honda web page

Looking at the picture I'd say they have lifted the bottom of the windshield away from the nose of the bike..aloows more wind to come up under windshield...reducing back pressure behind screen...air movement but not buffeting..hhmmmmm....Bet person could do that with stock screen...I have a Cee-Bailey coming but I may look at making some blocks to go under shield on base plates to do that...........gotta be away to get clean air :confused:

Thanks for this. Sheesh, it gets hot enough riding an ST anyway without deflecting any more breeze!

DID YOU MAKE THE CUTOUT AT THE BOTTOM OR DID IT COME THAT WAY? MY RIFLE COMES TO A POINT AT THE BOTTOM TO MATCH THE LINE IN THE FAIRING. I AM GETTING READY TO MAKE A CUT AND YOURS LOOKS GOOD;

Rifle will make any size windshield you like, within reason. This one is 3" narrower than stock and 4" shorter. I seldom if ever use the shield and I like the way the smaller one looks. The cut out in the bottom of the windshield came from rifle, I am not that talented.

I've been experimenting with this for the last couple of rides. Even with the standard non adjustable screen, if you remove the screen mounts and replace them using the top nut only you can tip the screen back increasing the gap under the front edge. It does make a hell of a difference.
I'm now playing with the actual height adjustment of the screen with it in this shallower position.

I did not like the point of the fullsize (+4) Rifle shield and it was hard to clean backside and front of fairing underneath. So I took stock shield and laid on top and drew the outline of the stock shield bottom. I cut bottom of Rifle to match outline of stock with jigsaw and tape over cut area. Then sanded smooth and rounded cut. Back on and it has helped in air flow some, but looks more stock and allows cleaning of backside of shield in lower area. I have '03 standard and have not added motorized conversion. The tilt by the "tuning blocks" I think is the big difference in air flow along with the larger top of shield. I have little buffeting in lowest position. See right over top (5'10" frame) for unobstructed view of road. I see no need to have adjustability. Been through big rain coming from last years Hoot and shield performed very well. I am satisfied with this modification. I :03biker: t looks like short Rifle but with fullsize upper protection.
