Well I just went out and purchased a new 2610 for my ST. Not mounted yet but should be working on it this weekend.

Anyway, how may people out there with 2610's have a remote antenna installed as well? I've seen some people use them (as I could see the antenna on pictures they have), but I've never really seen anyone comment about it.

Comments?

I just got my 2610 last week I have been using it in my car to get used to it. And I haven't had the time to install the powerlet yet. Maybe this weekend. I love it I think it will be awsome on the bike, I can't wait to get it installed. I am using a ram mount from cyclegadgets.

I have an external GPS antenna mounted on one shoulder of the black plastic "dash" and the antenna for my SkyFi on the other shoulder. They do not interfere with each other. Without the external antenna I have 2D mapping and about 5 bars of signal. With the external, I have at least 9 bars, 3D mapping, and ground station-satellite differential.

Sorry -- don't have access to the name of the external at the moment. I think that it is "Nilson".

Do you have a part number for the Ram mount? Is it the type that goes on to the steering stem nut?

The name is actually "Gilsson" -- I looked when I got home.

If you are asking me for RAM part numbers, I'd be happy to share them with you. You need to know, though, that I have mounted my GPS and XM radio to the old style (two mounting hole) Heli adapter cover, not the new, single hole (Optional) riser cover. The new Heli cover, the NPT cover, or no cover will be done differently.

RAM-11M
You can find the RAM-11M at:
http://www.cyclegadgets.com/Products/product.asp?item=RAM-BA
It is the fourth item from the top of the page. These attach to the Heli riser. One required per device to be mounted.

RAM-BA 3" RAM arms
See bottom of http://www.cyclegadgets.com/Products/product.asp?item=RAM-BA. These attach to the two RAM-11M mounts now bolted onto the Heli riser.

Attach the 3" RAM arms to a GPS, XM radio, or other mount. Very clean, adjustable, and strong mounting.

Contact me offline for several photos of this if you like.

I have had no problem with mine getting signals without an external antenna, both in my car and on the bike. I guess those that have satillite radios have a need for them because of interference

I just mounted my 2610 on my 05 ST/A. I'm not using an external antenna and it works fine in the Tampa area with the internal setup. I added the Heli Riser first (HC0303G with Aux hole). The hole on the riser accommodates the RAM Compact Base/Ball Adapter (RAM-COMP @ $8). From there I added the RAM 3" Standard Arm (RAM-STDARM @ $12), the Ram Cradle for the 2610 (RAM-SP26 @ $10), and the RAM Small Base (RAM-SMALL @ $11) to the back of the cradle. The RAM mounts were purchased from CycleGadgets for a total of $41.00. I've put a couple of hundred miles on the system and really like it. My power source is a 12v power receptacle in the right cargo compartment.

Ride safe, Bob

Quick question on the power source ...

My 12v receptacle only has a 2amp fuse (Honda) Is this what you have? I was wondering if this was going to be enough to power the 2610 - (I'm shopping for one now)

How do others power these units?

Thanks

Jeff,

I have the standard Honda 12V receptacle installed by the dealer before I picked up my bike. I'm not sure of the amperage, and when I called the dealer they didn't know either. In any case, my 2610 has been running fine--about 250 miles thus far.
