That's good news! I am sure you and your wife will have a very nice time. The San Diego East County is a very beautiful and fun ride. The restaurant is one of our favs and there is a country store there also that sells local products and bakery goods such as the world famous Julian Apple Pie. Also the tourist town of Julian is nearby and lots of great country roads with twisties and sweepies. Hope you can make it. Look forward to meeting you both.

I'm seriously considering rescheduling this RTE for the following Sunday. Seeing how the weather is not looking favorably; thunderstorms and rain and the fact that sections of Hwy 78 is still down due to the recent fires and flooding from the last rain I think it would be better. Any thoughts? I'll decide tomorrow and have Mellow change the date on the RTE post.

Fred,
It might not be a bad idea. The other thing that will be stopping some from attending is the Long Beach Motorcycle show being this weekend.

True enuff Byron. OK, it's a done deal. I'll change the date on the post and ask Mellow to change the post's title date. I'll also call the restaurant and change the reservation to the following Sunday for lunch.

Good question. I was thinking about 9:00 a.m. That would give us three hours for the two hour trip. How does that look to you? Want to ride down as a group?

Here's an old YouTube video I posted of one of the past RTE's to the Apple Country Restaurant in Santa Ysabel. It'll show you one of the roads in to the restaurant (Highway 78) with Dteel and Walrus riding in front. With other photos of the bikes and buddies at the restaurant. Please forgive the quality of the video; it's was when I was just starting to learn how to edit video. LOL.

Fred et All,
Sorry, it looks like I won't be able to make it after all. I managed the get a mid-week ride in though, so I got my fix. (Lunch in Julian, Cuyumacas over to I-8, back on the Lagunas, 67 to Ramona, 78 down to Escondido, etc.) Temps were still pretty low in the mid to high 30s across the Lagunas with icy spots in the shade. SD County roads rock!
Anyway, enjoy the RTE everyone!

Got off the phone with the restaurant and they are expecting us tomorrow at 12pm NOON! Remember that this lunch is all going on one check and you'll need to bring cash for your meal and tip. Thanks!
The weather is looking great! A bit chilly, but nothing you guys aren't use to. Dress accordingly. As far as I know all the roads are open and passable. I'll be going up Highway 78 from Escondido starting around 9-10am. I'll be heading back home after lunch on Highway 76 to Oceanside (Interstate 5 & Highway 76). I'll have my cellphone on and am able to take calls while riding (Zumo & Bluetooth) 760-420-5921, I'll also have my GRMS radio turned on and tuned to channel 1.
You guys and gals ride safe! Remember it's the holidays and it's a tourist area and a main route to the desert for dirt riders and their RV's and trailers. Give yourself plenty of time and room to get there.
See ya all tomorrow! Woo hoo! :hotpepper

Well that is the longest RTE I've done yet. 2,585 miles for fish and chips. The Lady that came to meet me at the RTE was Carolle. She lives in San Diego and is a long time member of the San Diego Wanderers. For those of you who weren't there when she arrived, the Valkerie Trike with the lion on the back is her ride. I didn't bring this up during the lunch because it would have taken too much time to explain several times. Carolle was the SO of Kent S. He is listed in the memorial section of the board and died on SR341 in AR during CampSToc May 18, 2006.
It was certainly great to meet a bunch of the SoCal folks, and the weather was the best I've seen since early November. Hope everyone makes it home safe and has a Merry Christmas and a Happy and SAFE New Year!!!

That guy rides! He said he left Ohio on Friday morning! That is about 2500 miles in two and half days! Dude!
Here's my photos of the event. Some names I remember, some I don't due to showing my age and being close to buying a Goldwing!
Oh! BTW! Thanks Joe! Got the tracking number! (Inside joke).
Hope to see all you guys and gals at the next California event: TechSTOC at Turbo City on Jan. 19th 2008.
There's Motomac with his spare tire on the rear of his bike. Tommyboy. Chuck and his buddies from the Long Beach area. Motomac's friend came up on a trike. Dan showed up, even with his bum shoulder he came! All the bikes! Some of Byron's friends, etc...

I am very gratified that you all had a good time! Me too! Such good riding in that area, even with all the sad views of the previous horrific fires. I like this restaurant not just for the food which is just OK in my culinary book, but it's perfect central location in San Diego's beautiful East County.
So... Here's my idea I'd like to put forth to you So. Cal and beyond guys and gals; should we make this a regular thing? Every month? Every three months? Let me know what you think. I talked to the restaurant's owner and he was very receptive to having us there, duh! LOL.

I think every 3 months would be a good thing. Make it a "change of the seasons" type of thing. The direction I rode (Hwy 79 South through Warner Springs) had no fire devastation.

I agree Tom, and the seasonal theme is very good! SPRING: time to clean out all the cobwebs and take a ride! SUMMER: Time to change your oil and get the bike ready for those long distance rides! AUTUMN: Time to change tires and change the air filter and take a ride! WINTER: Time to thumb your noses at the poor mid-west and eastern ST riders that we can ride in snow-free sunshine and of course TAKE A RIDE!

I'm off for a five day weekend, work Wed and Thr, then off for another 5 days then work 2 again. Then off for 3 days. After that the old grind starts up again....bah, humbug!
