600 miles, changed the engine oil and final drive oil. All appeared to be normal. That oil filter was on way too tight though. Had a heck of a time getting it off. And it took 4.5 qts to get it to the upper fill line on center stand/level ground after running for 5 min and letting sit for over 3 min. With just the 4 qts it was not even making it to the min line. By the way, I drained the engine oil on the side stand.

Also, has anyone ever paid attention if there is any oil in the window with the engine running?

Yeah, if you turn the bike on the oil in the window goes away as it's being circulated in the engine. You can see it splash on the window now and then if you look hard enough.

Honda always puts the original filter on too tight. I think it's to discourage people from changing their own oil. I never tighten a filter with a wrench. You can tighten it as tight as is needed with your hand.

I don't like the oil at the top line. And isn't 3 minutes longer than specified to wait after warm-up? 'Cause if you wait longer it will read higher. I hope you are checking the level on the center stand???

Had a ***** of a time getting the filter off the first time. Think your right about Honda wanting the dealer to do this. Way to tight. Hand tight is all they need to stay put.

My manual STates after 3-5 min run time, wait 2-3 min to read the level in the window.

And yes I was on center STand and level ground doing the readings. Like I said though I had let it drain while on side STand, possible I drained more that way than on center?

Same here had a heck of a time getting the filter off (made it all the more difficult when the ratchet somehow switched from loosen to tighten :-(. The first time I put oil in it I filled it (at the 100 mile point) up to the top line, but after taking it for a ride it the oil level completely filled the window up about 4.5 qts - ended up draining some out. At the 600 mile point I put in 4 qts and it filled it up to the top line. I saw this type of issue before

There is a torque spec for the filter. I always properly torque the filter and drain bolt. It never comes loose on it's own nor does it come off hard.

How do you torque the filter? ( ... he says thinking this may be a stupid question)

To get the filter off the 1st time I had to drive a big screwdriver thru the SOB.

I now hand tighten the filter then add a snitch more with my filter wrench.

I changed the oil on my 05 yesterday, first time and the filter came off with no problem at all. I was expecting to have to fight with it but a simple twist with the wratchet and filter wrench and it was loose? I also noticed a oil leak at the front of the left cylinder valve cover, will have to check the valve cover bolt torque, first oil leak I have ever had on a Honda. Looks like it was coming from the gasket on the very front only.

Oil leak fixed, was coming from the 2 knuckles in the gasket on the front left valve cover, end of the cams, when I pulled the cover off there wasn't any sealant on these 2 parts where the shop manual says to put it. Used some permatex sealant and rode it for a 100 miles, no leak now. Also added 4qts and 6 oz. to bring the oil level to almost the full mark.
