With the help of Little John here on the forum, I got the Motorcycle Larry Risers on my 1300 today. Holy Smokes! These things are the cat's behind. Not much riding with them, but the little I've done makes me really appreciate Larry's work.

Thanks Larry.:biker:

I will agree. I just this weekend added the risers and the peg lowering brackets.

Man, I am not sure what yours were like, but getting those handlebars off the stock riser was $(@*(#&! tough! I actually broke am allen key on it! Man those guys at honda put them on REAL tight! (I would smack them if I knew who it was).

We used a cheater bar tog et them off, and man did they ever "POP" when they broke. Scared the bejeezers out of me. Didn't bother Little John. After all, it was my bike we were working on. LOL

Be careful with those peg lowering brackets, as a member here just this weekend laid his down due to the peg lowering brackets. Just be aware of the new clearance.

Hey Rebel.

I had noted from previous posters that they had clearance issues with the pegs once they lowered them. Since adding mine, I've taken a few good curves (for me maybe?), and all seems fine. Add to that, they do bend up as the stock pegs did as well. From your post I have to assume you dropped it going into a curve or? What happened?

I rode to school and back today. Man, do I like these risers. They really make the ride much better. Next comes the evaluation of the stock seat.

Check your mail, I got another visit from the guy in the brown suit. I think he's buddies with Santa. :ups1: LOL

I installed MCL risers this past weekend also and they are great. I did a 250 mile ride with them and no more pressure/discomfort on my wrists/hands. The allen screws on mine were extremely tight also, had to use a box wrench near the base of the allen wrench to get enough force to break the screws loose.

How did that happen? I drag mine all the time, including the black plastic lowers, brake pedal, etc. In fact, I like it so much I put titanium hero nuts on so they spark a LOT. I've actually had drivers coming from the other direction stop to see what I was dragging. ;)

Ooooooh, where'd you get the Ti hero nuts??

Does anyone have a picture of a rider with these risers, side view of course, that illustrates the riding position? I am interested in seeing how upright the posture is. BTW, I am 5'9".

Give me a few days and I'll take some for you. I just received my MCL risers yesterday and will put them on early next week. I'm also 5'9" and I'll have the missus take some photos of before (Stock bars) and after.

I will say, so far I am very impresses with the service and price from MCL. I received the rises in two days. Amazing.

I put mine on this evening and took it out for about a 25 mile ride and what a difference!

Thanks to who ever mentioned using masking tape on the washer and nut. The hardest part was getting the allen screws loose. Used a cheater on the wrench and after a loud pop they came out.

The biggest difference I noticed was how much less pressure there was on my wrists when stopping and the over all comfort of having the bars higher. I'm 5'9' and think I'm now setting at a much better riding position than I was before.

The service from MCL was great. I ordered them last Sunday evening and there arrived on Wed. :-D

I finally had some time to put the MCL risers on my bike. Overall the installation was very easy and the installation instructions that come with the risers are excellent. Two of the 14mm bolts that hold the mounting plate down are hard to get to, but after I finally changed tactics I was able to tighten everything up nicely.

Here are some photos of before and after to give you an idea of the geometry changes. For reference I'm 5'9" tall. I had to move my tank bag back about an inch after the risers were added.

Thanks very much Pete for taking the pictures. This helps me understand how much the risers change a persons riding position.

Pete,
Thanks so much for taking the time to take those great comparison photos. They are very helpful, in fact, they may well have convinced me to lean towards the purchase of an ST rather than an RT. I am a Honda guy from way back and have yet to test ride one but my impression from the forums was that the ST, even with risers, would give a very forward leaning ride with pressure on the wrists. Since I am looking for an upright riding position that is comfortable for touring, I thought I was going to be limited to the BMW RT. From what I see in the photos the ST should be fine for me. Let us know how you like the bars after you have had a chance to give them a day long test ride.

I've recently received my MCL Riser package and concerned to see there are no fasteners included.

Should there be or do the original fasteners do the job?

The MCL web site refers to 'stainless steel fasteners not shown'. I've e-mailed Larry but no reply.

When I installed my MCL risers I coated the bolts with anti seize, hopefully if they ever have to be removed they will come out easier. I try to antiseize any fastner that goes into aluminum.

Installed the MCL riser plate two weeks ago. Piece of cake. The hex head cap bolts are easily removed with a 3/8" allen driver. Enormous difference in ride position and ergos. Removes 70% of weight from the wrists. Here's a pic of the risers and mount for the V1 installed on my STeed.

Hello all,

I currently have GenMars on my '04 but would appreciate a little more pullback. I understand the NPT riser plate brings the bars back 2 full inches. How does the bar angle change. Do the grips point more toward your belly? I would like to bring the bars back, but not by having the grips point more towards my belly. I like the grips to be as perpendicular to my arms as possible.

Thanks, Brian

Also, do the handlebars with MCL risers interfere with raising the tank?

Thanks, Brian

The angle does pull the grip angle in a bit, but also moves them farter apart at the base, so you get a similar feel to stock, but closer to you. I thought the angle would bother me as well, but Ive really been happy with mine (NPT riser plate). I have also lifted the tank with it on. It just needs a little more wiggling than with stock setup.

Thanks John. That's exactly what I needed to know. The angle thing doesn't scare me as much knowing they were moved slightly farther apart at the base. Hopefully, the end result is a similar feel, just closer to me.
