I went looking at cold weather gloves and found a couple I like, both by olympia. One pair is thick and warm, but apparently not waterproof as they come with a waterproof mitten that goes over the glove. The glove itself looks to be leather. The other glove is thinner, but says waterproof and windproof and it looks like some type of nylon. The odds are I won't be riding in the rain when its cold so I don't think waterproof is that important, but I'm wondering which would be warmer in normal wear. Any ideas?

It's been my experience that insulation without windproofing is useless in a cold-weather motorcycle glove. Even my most heavily insulated gloves my finger-tips get cold because wind comes in the seams. Silk glove liners help, but not perfect. I'm not sure I could do more than about 30 minutes in the saddle at 20 degrees with any combination of gloves and liners that I have. :(

leather :p
that way, if your finger tips get cold, you can grab a cylinder.

For $3 Aerostich will sell you some big, admittedly goofy looking, blue rubber overgloves that are waterproof. Toss them in your jacket pocket and you've solved the waterproof issue.
Heated grips will keep your hands warmer than gloves because they put heat into your hands rather than just attempt to retain your body's own heat through insulation. You can put heated grips on your bike for less cost than heavy gloves.
Consider also that heavy gloves substract for your feel of the bike's controls. With heated grips you can use the gloves you have and stay warm.
My $.02.
Would that be an agape-glove question?

I need good gloves because I ride six different bikes and putting heated grips on all of them is not an option. I think I'll go with the waterproof/windproof gloves. Thanks.
