The '97 ST1100 that I'll soon have currently has the Honda backrest/little pouch. Does having one of these get in the way of installing a Givi trunk? Are they mutually exclusive?

... the 4 bolts need to be used by the Givi 'base' upon which your trunk will mount ... but, the Givi trunks offers a 'backrest' option so your S.O. should be happy either way. Unless she's used to Gold Wing comfort ... :D

As Horst said, the HONDA backrest has to be removed. You can use the Corbin backrest (with the seat of course) or as mentionned the GIVI backrest, mounted to the case.
However, I'd wait with the backrest installation, till the case is on the bike.
Not every one likes the position of the backrest, some bags are comfy without it and if the passengers jacket has a backpad built in, the backrest may not be neccessary.
On other hand many people like them a lot.
You can always add the backrest later, but if you put it on first and don't like it.....you'll have two holes in the case !
Are you going to Americade ? That's the first coming up rally where GIVI will have their display. You can always try different configurations at shows like this..... (Also Daytona, Honda Hoot, BMW National and Ohio Vintage Days this year...)
Which case are you getting ?
There are two backrests available for the E52 and the V46 cases. One is harder one is softer. One is $52 one is $68 (MSRP)
If you concider the E460 (price went down to $205 - plain black), it's backrest is quite soft.

Doug - if you are considering selling your stock back rest. I would be interested in it. Shoot me an email or message and maybe we could work something out?
