CT-STOC 2008 is ON!! So I'll open this thread for any discussions.

I don't know about you guys, but this morning it was very difficult for me to get off the road and pull into the parking lot at work.

I used to live in Long Island also when I was a kid. Lake Grove.
I remember ice skating on Lake Ronkokomo when I was about 9 years old.

My Mom lives near Atlantic City. I'll probably be riding down there in late June. We should try to hook up. My brother has a VTX and I'll be riding with him.

The Delaware Water Gap is a great place to ride. I remember it well. One of the only two times (so far) that I've been down at speed (we don't count the innumerable parking lot stuff)

Bennie, is that Captain Scarlet peaking out behind Red Queen in your avatar ?

If it were me and I was going to run it up here without slab, I'd find some nice PA roads north and east of Philly and run those up into the adirondacks and then over into Mass. and then down into CT. It IS going to take much longer, but you'll find there are some nice roads through PA and NY.

Thats a good one MAC:crackup careful we dont want to bash HD:rolleyes:Its funny ...I am a member of the XS/XJ1100 forum...and when they have a rally there is an award given out to the person that trailered their ride to the event...they call this...The Harley Award. Its a wooden plaque with the HD metal logo that says Ride to Live...Live to Ride on the top part and below it gives recognition to the member who traveled the most miles with the bike not touching the ground...then there are the names of all the winners...its kinda funny...since in our group there were some actual HD's at the event.

Ben, here's your options for cabins...
#1 at $120/night..... all the options... plumbing, air, heat, microwave, stove...you name it.

OR

#4 or #5 at $80/night... these are the bare cabins you stayed in last year.. no plumbing, no heat, they have air and a tv.

With either option you'll get to take 25% off the price. You can get some other guys to stay with you to split the cost, but if you reserve it you'll be resposible for making the reservation and payment. Anyway, whatever you decide, call the office between 9:30AM and 8:00PM at 1-800-828-6478 to make the reservation for the cabin.

Anyone tenting needs no reservation.

Brian, for those of us planning to tent that have not been to your campground before... do we need to stop and check in? Or just roll in to a specific area for the ST campers?

georgeorge
08-11-2008, 12:04 PM
If you'll be doing the ride in with the rest of us who meet for breakfast in Danbury, then you'll just roll in with us right up to the safari field. If you get here by yourself and don't know your way to the safari field, then just stop at the office and get directions, but there's no need to actually check-in. I'll check us in as a group. If you go to the website you can get and print out a site map of the campground. If you do that then you can just come in and go right to the safari field. As you enter the campground, there is a security gate. To the right of the security gate is a pole then an opening big enough for a bike. Use that opening. Don't try to use the gate with a motorcycle. It has closed early and hit someone in the head before, so we no longer allow motorcycles to use the gate. Just go around it.

The website is www.watersedgecampground.com

Breakfast in Danbury? I must have missed that detail. Is that on Friday? If yes, then I will not see you there. I'll be rolling in Friday evening (after leaving work a little early). I plan to burn the wind and get there before sundown.

Right of the gate. Safari Field. Got the campground map printed out. Thanks!

I'm still seasonal Bones and my campsight is still willing an able...

Now should it sell and I don't have the camper by the time CT STOC is held than there is a fire pit right in between where you set up the tents and the pavilion..

Dave,
It will be easy to find us. When you get through the gate, just take a right (2 of them) at each road/opportunity and you will come right up on us.

Time to start doing some planning and darn it all if we are able to get to Castle Craig this time!

CT STOC 1 Friday ride in was a good one..maybe we can relive that one?...
John had point from the Diner as it was his hood and then I took over at some point in through Middlefield etc...

Time to kick start this one..

Also everyone don't forget to sign up at the CT STOC website...
Spaghetti dinner and beer fest on Friday night?
Michele's Chili at Guayabito's at end of ride on Saturday?...

Don't forget for anything that is willing and brave enough, this thing unofficially starts at my house on Thursday afternoon/evening with some of you house crashers....You can stay under the roof or tent on the lawn..all are welcome...

Either closest to Lebanon or easiest ride to Lebanon or same for the Fri breakfast rendezvous.

I could see if I had a good "catchy" handle (as I do on other forums) to put that there, but to just put my name on my t-shirt kinda seems like 5th grade dorkdom. Then on the other hand, none of you know me so having my name on me might make it a bit less awkward as I am getting to know you all....But three years down the road I am still stuck with a t-shirt with my name on it. Tis a dilemma of epic proportions for sure! So what are the "cool kids" doing?

I always put my name on the shirts, just so people know what to call me. I really don't want them calling me 'georgeorge'.... so 'Brian' goes on the shirts. But you don't need to put your name on it. I'm sure we can remember the names of a few women. I'm not so sure I even need to put my name on it but I do anyway.

PS... and if you really want to blow some minds, do a search at shirtznthingz for 'stoc' and all the shirts from previous years are still available. Get one and then ask everyone why they don't remember you from last year.

I like the way you think! Better yet... mine for this year with some random name "susan" or something ... and last year's for my husband, also with a random name.

There is someone who will remember me from last year. Although I don't know who it is. I met some one leaving CT STOC last year at the corner of Rts 3 and 138 in Hope Valley. I think their bike was black, but it might have been blue, I can't remember. I was just shocked to see another ST on the road. They told me they were leaving your event and on their way home.

I'll make it a priority to get the official CT-STOC website up and running with updated info. I should be able to get a couple hours in tonight. We're in full swing here right now with the holiday weekend so no promises but I'll try. If not tonight then definitely by Tuesday. Sorry it's taken me so long, but this year has been very busy for me.

If anyone wants the last open cabin you need to move quick. I'll keep it available till 9/8 then I have to open it up to the public.

It is a bare cabin that sleeps 5. Has air, TV, fridge, table, 1 double bunk and 3 twin bunks. No heat or plumbing. It is located across the road from a bathhouse. Price with the discount is $60/night.

Well heck, no problems if you can get a projector. I've got a sheet, a converter and an ST that generates lots of power. Converter ought to be able to handle a projector, ya think? Someone else chip in a line to hang the sheet on, and maybe someone brings some popcorn and then it's slide night. Right? :toot1:

Yes and on that note let us know if you are planning to do something OTHER than the planned meals..which are:

Friday at my place for Burgers, Dogs, Chili..
Best guess for time will be between 5:30 and 7pm.
On the way back from my house, we will make the obligatory stop at the package store, people can buy what they need and throw it in Brian's truck.
We will aim to leave my house at 7 and will allow us time to stop and be back at the CG before nightfall...

Saturday
Spaghetti dinner around 6 ish I think..

Like I said, it's important to let us know if you are NOT going to be at the food deals becuase Brian and I both need buy enough food accordingly..

Also one other side,
Pizza at my house Thursday evening sometime for those planning on being there early...

When I first moved to CT I was totally surprised. I used to live in NJ. 24 hour a day, anything.
I went to go to the liquor store for some beer on the 4th of July. Big holiday. Beer galore. THe store was closed. Seems it's illegal to buy beer here on the 4th. Totally weird.
I'm surprised they haven't outlawed pancakes on Sunday.

Trecker when I fist moved here from Hilton I couldn't fathom why anyone wanted to go to a "package store". Why couldn't we just get beer at the grocery store and be done with it? Its a New England thing I have found..... RI/CT/NH and MA all call the liquor store a "packy" Not sure about Maine and VT but I wouldn't be surprised.

MA had a huge debate last November on a referendum that went to state vote about allowing the sale of beer at convenience stores. The advertisements and propaganda leading up to election day for this particular question was ridiculous....Having grown up in NY where beer can be purchased almost anywhere and any time I thought the adds were hilarious.

The rest of the population is fine 'cause they be drinking the hard to get beer instead. Yeah man I thought I was clandestinely teleported back to the time of the Pilgrims or something. Where do you guys have to go to find condoms? Probably the package store too, only to be purchased between 10AM and 11AM so as not to encourage excessive overuse. Wait till you see the Ads on that one when convenience stores are proposed.

That will take no one less than "TROJAN MAN" to set the State right when that happens :D (reference to the '05 CTSTOC). Hey Todd will that photo be in the slide show???? If my red Cardinal's robe flying up gets in, then that one should get in too :p: :crackup

Depending on the weather we might just have them play right up there in the safari pavillion!! If it rains we'll have them play in the rec-hall.

All this AND a spaghetti dinner too!!!! Woo!!!! :eat1::bannana

Here is the planned Friday ride in various formats. I left out a road which was very sweet, freshly paved with a terrific hairpin turn. It added another 10 miles of slab to an already slab rich day due to the tight schedule we have. The first photo op was lifted from the first CTSTOC at the Shepaug River. The Second is at Kent Falls, the third is the covered bridge in West Cornwall and the last is at the Barkhamsted reservoir. I haven't picked a spot for lunch. Breakfast is about 10 AM, perhaps we can grab a snack on the road. Winsted has a Dairy Queen:D and numerous other restaurants. We should be there about 2:30.
Suggestions are welcomed.

Just over 200 miles, but a few miles of slab and 5 1/5 hours of riding time. sounds nice to me. good job, John.

Major problem......

My ST just took its first ride ever in a trailer. I need to go start a "what does this noise mean?" thread. It was bad. Its late and I am just getting home, the bike won't even get unloaded from the trailer until tomorrow.

Oh please let it be something my wonderful husband can fix.... oh please. I rode some 200+ miles today, I am glad it died where it did. It was in a pretty good spot for retrieving. Its a drive train/transmission related problem, and it sounds really major. Diagnostics to start tomorrow.

If needed I will show up riding pillion on the BMW. It hurts to even say that....

Here's the route I'll be leading on Saturday. It's 171 miles and 5 1/2 hours of nice roads. It's basically the same route I lead at the first CT-STOC event, but many of you where not here, so it's all new to you. It goes through Devil Hopyard state park, and to Stonington Point, The Vanilla Bean for lunch, cycle gear for a quick stop and then back to the campground.

Brian, how do you view those files? Not familiar with those extensions. Probably have something to do with GPS instead of maps ?

Yeah if you have a garmin GPS you can upload these files directly to the unit or you can use Mapsource software to open it and look at it. I'll edit that post tomorrow and upload some pdf's of the route.

FYI
Not sure what the PC procedure is, but from my MAC I just double clicked on your thumbnail map in post #214 which opened the original jpg. Then I selected "SAVE AS" from the File menu and saved it to my hard drive. Great map with 1280 x 1024 resolution and only 312K. :D

Here's a CT-STOC route through west/central Mass. It follows secondary and winding back roads. Breakfast at the Vanilla Bean, a cool stop on the town green in West Brookfield, winding roads in forest lands, an early lunch option (Rooster's Bistro, nice small diner) and late lunch option (Bub's BBQ) and optional stops at the Summit Tower (highest point in Quabbin Reservoir reservation) and along Quabog River.

This route will take you all day...no slab anywhere, typical speed limit 40 or 45, but fun for those of us who like winding roads. Those of you from out of the area, this route will give you a feel for inland southern New England, away from the coast. Less traffic and more curves than the coastal runs.

Not on my route, Benny. But CT isn't so big that you can't go there if you like.

FWIW, Torrington would put you on CT8, which if you go far enough north, becomes a nice road, especially when you hit Mass.

No not on Saturday, Ben... sorry. Friday we will be, but not saturday.

BTW, FWIW.... I've consolidated all routes in a seperate page from the CT-STOC website. They can all be found here: http://ctstoc.fateback.com/2008routes.html

FWIW,
My group for the Saturday ride I have planned is set.
My thought was to take some folks who are new to the area and show them around. Much more relaxed pace and it will allow the other brudda's to go out do their thing with other people who they have shared miles with..
You are certainly welcome to my route but the "Kempo Klan" is in lockdown..

By doing this I am avoiding looking around Saturday morning and not knowing who I am headed out with..8 Bikes is max IMO.

The Kempo Klan is confirmed..

I remember that Etch-a Sketch story !!

Ben, just save it on your computer and then view it full size from there. Can't help ya with the color.
I was also hoping to at least wave at all the XSs but it looks like it probably won't be in the cards this time.

You guys are making my job more and more difficult. I can't possible zoom in so close as to see details of every turn, otherwise I would have 10 different maps for each route. I'm trying to run the campground, too.

I will put the detailed turn by turns into .doc files and post them asap.

I haven't tried opening these routs yet.... but any rout that doesn't include a stop at Clydes Cider mill (Old Mystic, CT) is woefully inadequate. The oldest and only still running steam cider press this side of the Mississippi. They press before 11:00 7 days a week this time of year. Its totally worth it to stop and spend 15 min watching. And they cell the cider by the cup for those that just need a cup after watching that.
