It all started last summer with a Rick Mayer seat. I put it on the bike in the end of November 04. After 1000 miles now it is phenominal. Then last week I installed Heli Risers. I'll enclose a pic also of the nut/washer that installs on the underside of the riser. That is adherred to the masking tape to get it started. :) This worked well for me being that was a blind install and I gat reall big hands. It made the bike that much more comfortable. I also believe it handles better with the risers which was even more of a suprise. :D
(I can't believe Honda doesn't offer this as an option). Anyhow I ordered the Hondaline Topbox Yesterday for Cruiserbackrest. Like will have it by the end of this week.

In viewing previous posts it states that the topbox has some movement??? This doesn't make sense, this should be rock solid shouldn't it? Anyhow I was also looking for feedback on the install from those of you that have done it. Any insights you could share would be appreciated.

If the OEM topbox is installed without any play, there's a good chance of high speed instability. The movement in the box is designed in to spill the air it traps. It works.

The instructions pretty much suck. Look at the picture as to where the spacers, grommets, washers and such go. Lay it out before you start bolting it on and it will come to you.
If you drop the nuts that are behind the seat/above the computer, there are two, well too bad their gone. The go to wherever it is dropped hardware goes, the same place that Elvis hangs out, out there some place never to be seen again.
The black plastic caps will fall out. A small dab of RTV on the sides will keep them in place.

Paul

Thanks Paul. What is RTV? Also would it be helpful to utilize Duct Tape as in the above pics to hold the nuts? Or is there anyway to place a sheet under there to catch whatever?

:biker: Ok. I installed my top box last month. 1-DO hold onto the spacers and nuts that hold the stock rack on. As i was told -they will fall out and go into a black hole inside your bike! 2-After your read the instructions several times--it all makes sense. The box-you will see and understand as you are installing the top plastic box mount is designed to slide side to side a few cm. This is to keep the bike stable. LAPD motors had a similar system on thier bikes in the 80's where the radio box was mounted (same as our top box) and was sucessful. And  :o: :o: even though the instructions aren't clear  after you get out the orig bolt/spacer/nut/ re-install the orig blk plastic rack (if you took it off) FIRST. If you don't, the box will move up n down. Side to side-good, up-down bad. Dont' ask me how I know about this ;) .
Now a question 4 u. I'm getting heli risers soon. Were there any mods that had to be done? Did all the cables and wireing harnesses have enuf play in the new higher/back position? Marin Phil. :biker:

Phil,

The risers go right on without any alteration. In the search section above type in Heli Bar Installation. It will bring up multiple past links on the subject. Two very good ones for me were to make sure the tank is covered and I used duct tape to hold the nut/washer in place on both the removal and install riser plate. You will like the Heli's. It made a world of difference for me.

For any like me who have a spacer go into the black hole, I rooted in the black hole with a magnet tool and whallaaa... retrieved spacer in 5 seconds flat. :) That would be a good thing compared to what my imagination was telling me.

About this movement business, does the amount of movement compromise the ability of the box to serve as a passenger backrest? I will be in serious need of a passenger packrest if I get an ST

There is no comprimise at all. The movement referred to is minimal, maybe 3/16" side to side and tight and smooth though. The plastic and rubber washers to assemble the rack are all held by spaced grommets that your hex head bolts fit into.

I just installed mine yesterday and the box is tremendously stable. The movement being spoke of will have no effect at all on the stability of the box and leaning on it. :D

Lots of us like to carry air compressors with us that run off the Cigarette/BMW cord we have installed... I have 1 that I took a Walmart compressor and took all the stuff off of it and it fits back in the cavity behind the seat along with a super small pair of Jumper Cables...

Small Compressor you can hide

But this,,, is a Manditory thingy to have!!! I use this thing all the time!!! You set it at 42 psi,,, attach it to your tire,,, turn it on,,, and it clicks off at 42.5 psi... The one I have is from the original company who now makes these for Sears and,,, it is easier to just buy it at Sears,,, and know IF,,, you ever have a problem you can walk in and twist an arm to get it right... But,,, believe me,,, you buy this,,, and you will use it EVERYWHERE!!! Every year when I go off on my 20 day tour,,, the guys I meet up with DEMAND,,, that I bring this with me...
