Anybody have a good mounting scheme? I have an Ezpass and am using the supplied plastic velcro (not light duty hook and loop) in the inside lower center of the windscreen. Because of the curve it doesn't engage securely.
Transponder doesn't seem to work in the fairing pocket or jacket pocket.
Needs to be removeable to use in the cage.

I have mine on the dash way down under the windscreen and installed with velcro on the entire bottom. I also painted it black so thee is no annoying white glare in the screen. you can get an extra transponder and leave it on the bike, I have4 all together.

Thanks, that sounds like something to try. Can't use a second transponder with the same commuter discount plan here. 75 cents for a 3$ toll on the commute is a deal.

Transponders for Florida roads come with 3 built in suction cups. I mount it smack center and on the low side of windshield...

Slight hijack - In Houston (Harris Co.) they're tied to a vehicle and tag, and we can't move them around - well, I suppose you'd be Ok so long as it always read Ok, but on a mis-read they check tags from photo, and if they don't match, you get a letter.

Mine's in the tankbag and works fine.

Here (deleware) you can register the transponder with 3 or 4 vehicles.
You can also get multiple transponders on the same account. Removable type and hard mounted type with the license plate.

What you can't do is get multiple transponders and put them on the same commuter plan. IOW I could put a 2nd one on the bike but it would not get the same discount as my commute route transponder even though they are registed to the same person and the same account number.

The plan means I have to use 22 days a month over the same bridge. If I don't I still get charged. The upside is its .75 not the $3 for each crossing.

I tried it in my jacket and a fairing pocket and got the "letter" with my picture at the toll both. :)

I have mine mounted to the inside-top of my top box.
Pros - It's out of the weather and I don't have to worry about loosing it.
Cons - I keep forgetting to transfer it back to my car when I'm done and get caught on the tollway without it.
Out of sight - Out of mind !

Been there done that I'm usually about 10' from the toll both when the light bulb goes on. Obviously this only happens on a day when I don't have cash.

I have an 1100... use the heavy duty velcro to put mine on the dash down close by where the base of the windscreen.

Pro's is that I see it so I remember to put it back on my car when I'm done.
Con's is that it gets absolutely filthy when I get stuck in the rain.

I need to get another and mount it permanently, but since I don't know where I'd mount it, it doesn't really matter that much. Once I get a topbox I'll do what Highrider's done.

One of the auto accessory places makes a suction cup bracket for the Mark IV transponders used by EZ-Pass; should be easy to find one with Goooooogle.

Not removable, but I have mine installed under the upper cowl. There are some pictures and general guidance on how best to place it here (http://stwiki.notonthe.net/twiki/bin/view/General/TollTransponders).

In Dallas, the Tolltags work from your pocket. I just keep one in my riding jacket left chest pocket and haven't had a problem. I'd hate to leave it on the bike by mistake - it'd grow legs.

Well... I thought they worked from your pocket! That's what the NTTA Toll Tag guy told me to do! I recently discovered, by going through the cash lane, that the tag doesn't work at all unless held up to the sensor. I have since attached heavy duty Velcro to my dash. I hope that works better.

every one is so complicated. I throw mine in the right hand front pocket. as long as there is no metal in there it works fine. For the few times it doesn't work I have easy access to hand it to the attendent. NO metal can be in that front hand pocket or it won't work. I had a small screwdriver in the pocket and it interupted the signal

I had my transponder in the left pocket. It always beeped as I went through.

I have my e-z pass in my tank bag. It has never failed to work while there.

I also had no luck with it in my jacket pocket.

Friend on mine has his mounted in the trunk of his BMW RT1100, I might try that too in the future as I got the Pan trunk for my ST now.

Joe rocket has a jacket with a clear pockek on the sleeve down near the wrist. The pass works great there.

Me too. I tried it in the topbox and had problems with it not reading when I pulled up to the booth so I had to pay the toll, and then when I got the bill, finding that the transponder registered after the back end of the bike passed through the booth.

I wound up getting multiple transponders for multiple vehicles, but I'm not on any commuter plan. I do know that the NJ pass can register the motorcycle separately, in the event you're eligible for an MC discount at the toll.

I put mine in the console pocket and when approaching the toll booth I open the lid to expose the transponder. Works every time and I just close the lid while leaving.

Here in Illinois (land of I-PASS), I went out and bought two of those rubber-like wristbands that the kids wear (black). Then I went to Wal-Mart and bought a little jar of mini bungee cords.

I slipped the two wristbands onto the transponder "vertically" and then slipped two mini bungees under the wristbands "horizontally", positioning one bungee across the top of the transponder and the other across the bottom. Moving the rubber wristbands out toward the left and right edges of the transponder, but not close enough to slip off, what you wind up with at this point is a transponder with a bungee hook coming off of each corner. With me so far?

The dash on the ST1300 has two diagonal vent holes toward the front/bottom, beneath the windshield. The bottom bungee hooks into the tops of each of those vents. The top bungee wraps over the top of the dash and hooks into the two vents that sort of face upward, just above the two speaker grilles in the cockpit. Are you still with me?

The transponder is now laying flat under the windshield, on the top of the black plastic dash part. The I-PASS is slim enough that in this configuration, it does not interfere with the windshield in any position. Whenever I park in public, removing the transponder is as easy as raising the windshield and slipping the hooks out of their anchor points. I can then lock the transponder in my trunk, one of the side bags or the locking front pocket (aka the mini oven) or I can take it into the hotel, restaurant, etc.with me.

For added protection of the dash plastic, I dipped my bungee hooks in liquid plastic (and let them dry) before using them for this purpose. Thus no metal touches my plastic parts. The rubber wristbands also prevent the transponder itself from touching the dash assembly.

If a mini bungee wears out, I get another one out of the jar. If a wristband deteriorates (think rubber bands in the sun), I pick up another one the next time I go to a mall.

No drilling, no screwing, no gluing and no velcro. My set-up is also simple, secure and cheap. Works for me!

Okay, here are the pics. It actually takes longer to describe this rig-up than to do it. The most time-consuming steps are coating the metal bungee hooks (i.e. waiting for them to dry) and finding black wristbands (I just didn't think pink would do the trick).

No charge. I don't travel the tollways much, plus I need to transfer my transponder between my bike and my cage. Also, I hate gluing and taping things to vehicles, especially if said things will not outlast said vehicles. The cage has a suction cup holder. For the bike, this was the best solution I've had so far.

I have the EZ Pass mounted on my V-Stream shield on the inside. Actually drilled 2 small holes through the shiield and mounted an EZ pass holder with zip ties. The shield moves up and down without affecting the holder. Unfortunately, I was told by the toll collector at the New Hope bridge that they were just informed by the State that EZ pass does not work on bikes (?). I can't imagine. It does not work consistently on mine which makes it a PIA.

They probably don't "officially" support motorcycles (VA doesn't either) because it's a lot harder to develop good mounting instructions and your toll collector misunderstood. I've been using mine on a bike in for almost ten years and haven't had it fail to read yet, so clearly they do work.

It does not work consistently on mine which makes it a PIA.

You may have it mounted improperly, or if you have an old transponder, it might be time to swap it for one with a fresh battery. Post a picture.

From DE Ezpass web (http://www.ezpassdrba.com/static/faq/faq_6.shtml#5) site..

Are motorcycles eligible for an E-ZPass account?
Yes. Motorcyclists are eligible to participate in the E-ZPass program.

Mounted on the wind screen I have never had it fail. Maybe you battery is going. (I have had it take flight when the velcro let loose) :)

Here's a cute one.
Under what conditions can I get a violation?
There are three situations in which you can receive a violation:

snip...
Equipment Malfunction: When you drive through a lane and your E-ZPass Transponder is defective.

I had a common device that held the pass then used three suction cups to attach it to the windscreen. Works like glue in warm temps but as the mercury drops the suction cups need attention. This past Sunday AM, 35F, on a long sweeper ramp on to 95N I caught a blurr of black and white shoot across in front of me and launch across the dash on to 95. There goes my EZPass less than 10 miles into a 300+ mile trip across about $14.00 worth of bridges and toll roads. Way over to the right shoulder I go, 4 ways on, park the bike and run 100 yards south to see what I can find. Device holder shattered but EZPass on edge of right lane intact externally, internally who knows? Anyway I am going to use it but where to put it? Under plastic map holder, with map and index cards on top of it, of my tank bag, directly behind the GPS. Worked great, was invisible to the naked eye but also provides easy access. It is still there as I write write this and will remain there for as long as the tank bag magnets hold...

Getting a transponder to work on a motorcycle is always difficult. There is no good place to mount it and currently no transponder is made specifically for a motorcycle. In addition, each toll lane has a slightly different read zone, so where it may read in one lane, it might read in the next lane. It is important to have your motorcycle license plate listed on your E-ZPass account because whenever the transponder does not read, an image of your license plate is captured and the toll is posted to your account in that method. Should the toll post incorrectly or you are charged the full toll of the turnpike, contact us and we will adjust your account.

Dual Lock on the windshield, fast and simple. Resonably safe as you have to raise the windshield to access it easily and I cover the bike and farkles if I'm away from it for long.

+1 for putting it in the left fairing pocket, although here in Texas if the transponder doesn't read they just "video toll" you using their cameras.

I wish I could mount my garage door opener somewhere on the outside but that is too big a security risk.

Doesn't work IN the left fairing pocket around here. Mostly works on top of the fairing pocket. A "no read" gets you a notso glossy photograph and a fine.
So far I've gotten the fines removed with a simple email.

Plus that pocket is were I toast my english muffin in the am.

I just leave mine in my tank bag. Hasn't failed to work so far in there. Had it mounted on the windshiled of my Wing when I had it. Would probably put it there on the ST if it ever fails to work in the tank bag.

I have used one of these on my 1100 for about 7 years now. It was one of the first things I swapped over to the 1300.

Nothing shows on the outside of the bike. It is fully integrated with (I use the high beam switch). Easy to install.
