I just had the recalls done on my 03 and while I was there I got the dealership to install my Honda Heated Grips for a reduced charge. (can you tell that I am in sales). The grips are well worth the investment. They are easy to use and allow me to use lighter gloves even in cold weather. If there are any of you on the bubble about whether or not to install heated grips, I strongly recommend them. :clap2: :03biker:

I agree 100% with the heated grips for the same reason. I have small hands and a bulky glove makes it hard to hold on. Now I can wear a lighter glove and stick keep a comfortable grip.

However, the lack of padding in them wears on my throttle hand. After a solid day of riding the area between my thumb and index finger is almost raw.

I've also installed the Hondaline heated grips. I'm very pleased. The only dissatisfaction is a lack of backlighting in the controller. It's difficult to find at night when turned off. I combined the grips with a Throttlemeister. Very slick install.

Thanks RC. I did think about those but the rain soak did occur to me. Maybe I'll try some things on my own and then if the mood strikes me I'll order a set. It's nice that they will ship them for free via USPS otherwise it probably wouldn't be worth it.

Thanks,
Curt

I use a www.throttlerocker.com and never get hand fatigue. With your palm leaning on the rocker, the rest of your hand only needs to gently hold the grip.

And yes the heated grips still work good for me with the rocker on. YMMV

I've been considering getting a Throttlemeister, how difficult is it to install and operate on the ST?

Are the heated grips fatter, bigger than the stockers? I want a fatter grip, wouldn't mind heated... but don't want to shell out $$$ for heated if they are the same size as stockers.

TIA,
Robert

Thanks Charlie. I was lacking confidence in the install and operation enough not to put the money down. I think I'll go ahead and get it. I have a serious issue with impact bumps through the suspension causing throttle jerk. My old bike's throttle lock was set to be slippable for throttle adjustment, and hold that setting through suspension bumps. Can the TM be set that way?

Hi Guys.

Speaking of the throttlemeister, they seem to have a version specifically for the Honda Heated Grips now. Anyone now why? I was going to buy them as I'm just getting the grips installed now.

Another question who be the standard versus heavy. From reading I would assume you would go the the heavy but??? Any comments?

I have the Hondaline grips on my '03. I wanted them installed when I bought it new but they weren't yet available in 12/02. I ended up getting them from a dealer in Miami...why they had heated grips in south Florida but not Massachusetts still befuddles me. Installed them with the help of friend (a former Honda tech). They worked great two seasons then abruptly died. I called Honda and they said they'd pay for a new set and for my dealer to do the install as long as they could have the set back so they could examine them to see why they failed. Anyway, new ones work great.

Bought my heated grip from Linc at: http://www.2wheelinnovations.com/Heated%20Grips.htm

I put a nice soft set of motocross grips over the top of the heaters.
Total cost for heat kit and grips: $45.

Also have Brakeaway Products throttle lock installed. Though it took a fair amount of 'figgerin', it works just fine even with the heater wire.

Don't see why one would buy the Hondaline heated grips over the heater foils that go under the grips, they seem to have several disadvantages with respect to cost (a big one), locking you in to the grip type, and several reports of failures. The heater control seems to be an advantage, but not at that cost. I guess they may be easier to install and can be included in the warrantee I suppose but with alternative approaches costing less than $30, who needs to warrantee them?

I never had heated grips but I do have Gebring heated gloves and love them. That might be an alternative since the gloves heat your whole hand and not just the palms.
