WOTL, question at the end of this. TIA.

Got mine back from Portland today. The new (third one!) plug is red. I'm assuming it's an upgrade. Mike says this is only the second time he's had one melt. My thought is it ought'a be able to take full current 24/7. Maybe that ain't true.

So, checking thoughts here. Anyone else have warm/hot plugs on their electric gear? Used to get that on my Widder. In fact, I burned my belly once when plug at the vest-to-cord connector got hot. Those old white Brit style plugs weren't up to the task. Actually melted one of those housings once because of a loose connetor.

The Warm And Safe plugs are molded after the metal parts are soldered on so there's nothing to come loose. If the unit is capable of handling the normal current load, the only possible problem is high current due to, possibly a high resistance ground?

Can't answer the question; but, I would like to know what you think of the w&s products...

I have a Gerbing vest which did great for my torso; but, not for my arms... so it will be for sale soon.

The heated sleeves are great, Mike stands behind his products, and (read his web site) he claims the _original_ Heatroller.

Mine has been fixed twice, cost me two days on my August trip, and cost me $8 shipping this time plus the loss of the jacket for 9 days in January.

I still have both my Widder and my Gerbing vests. Gerbing has the tall heated collar, Widder packs smaller. _Neither_ are as good when needed as the W&S, when it's working!

Someone else is selling these products under their name. Don't know who.

Mark, I found some heated Gear on Motogearoutlets web site that was called First Gear Warm and Safe for good prices but if you register on Warm and Safes site as a club member you will get a 20% discount which is slightly better.

Thanks PB.

I have a window open on the W&S site right now... used STOC for my club and the discount shows just fine. :D

I've not noticed any significant heating on my warm'n'safe liner plugs. Excessive heat is generally a sign of too high resistence. If the connectors are dirty, or don't fit snugly in whatever you're plugging them in to, I guess you could get some localized heating, but probably not enough to melt them. I'd have to guess manufacturing issue.

I think highly of my w'n's liner, btw. I'd buy another if something happened to mine, and I'll recommend them to everyone.

Marc Coan (the owner of warm'n'safe) can be a bit crotchety, but he's always stood behind his products for me.

The First Gear heated stuff is sourced from warm'n' safe. First Gear's liner is the Gen 3. From the warm'n'safe sight you can get both Gen 2 and Gen 3. The differences are explained on the web site. Powerlet is also selling rebranded warm'n'safe gear.

With my W&S liner the plug comes out from under the seat just below where the cord dangles out of the side of the liner and is pretty much hanging out there in the cool air. I've never noticed this connetor getting warm but then I've always got my gloves on when I'm handling it.

Don't know if you're attaching other items but the addition of gloves or pants or whatever might possibly increase the current to the point of it all getting hot. I don't know though. Should be designed to handle it, you'd think.
