Denial doesn't make mean last year didn't exist. Several people who had reservations at that motel had their reservations cancelled by the motel. The owner said it was because the motel was unable to contact them at the last minute to verify their reservations, but the reservations were covered by creditcards. That is not an honorable way to do business. Will it be more of the same this year?

Coop my reply was an attempt at a joke, if your dealings with the motel last year were so distasteful stay some where else or stay at home. The Legends is only a suggestion stay where ever you want. I get no discount or free room no matter where people stay.

This sounds like a cool trip, About 5 hours from Ft. Worth? I noticed the Two Wheel Texans are planing for Junction the week prior to on dual sports. I have a dual sport as well, just don't think it would be as fun and fast as my ST.

I am going to be riding in the TWT dual sport ride with my KLR ,and then will try to make it back down for CheapSToc with the ST. Not sure if I can, but will try.You should try the TWT Dual sport ride also. The Ride book is worth the entry fee by it's self. I really have to earn alot of Kitchen Pass points to pull off back to back weekends. in Junction. If I can get back down for CheapSToc, anybody willing to share a room :D

I have marked out the weekend on the calendar and got my kitchen pass. Hope I behave and do not get it revoked before then. This was the first STOC event I attended with Fred (Medicine Bear) and J Reviere- neither on 2 wheels this year (unless Fred is making unannounced plans) - 2 years ago. Maybe not "the mother of all STOC events" but it's certainly the mother of my connection with many of the folks who have been at this for a long time, and got me going to later events. Highly recommended!

Cheap is good!

This is a Friday and Saturday, right? Just wondering. I expected it to be a Saturday/Sunday, but then I checked my calendar...

This sounds like fun - I like that area, too. I doubt my wife would be up for a two-day trip that far, but maybe I can talk my way out of the house for a few days on my own.

In defense of COOP, it seems to me he was just giving a heads up to people. It would be more than a little disheartening to have a credit card hold and then find the room not available, patricularly after a long ride.:03biker:

I believe Dave again squandered the entire logistics budget with his initial post.

My experience has been: Meeting point is Legends Inn, and possibly a named place for dinner if anyone wants to. Maps - BYO, or tag along with someone else.

Very friendly bunch, but no rules. A margarita machine draws some attendees like moths to a flame; so that's a sure-fire ice breaker, if you like *that* kind of crowd :).

Rob here is itinerary for cheapSTOC.
Great riding in a cheap location having a good time with some great people .
The central meeting location is the Legends Inn
Some are arriving Thursday but most on Friday with most leaving Sunday.
cheapSTOC is very informal I will have some suggestions about routes, eating places, and an interesting place or two that people can visit.
There will be a Saturday night group dinner with some wearing their obnoxious loud shirts.

Some of the interesting attractions that can be visited during cheapSTOC are
Fort McKavett, Fort Lancaster, Caverns of Sonora, Devils River, Devils Sinkhole, Lantry home of Judge Roy Bean, Lone Star Motorcycle Mus. and the newly added attraction the Polygamist Compound in Eldorado .

I'm in Junction several times a year. When I go, I stay at the Day's Inn, 111 Martinez Street, Junction TX 76849, 325-446-3730. They are at the other end of town from Cooper's BBQ and the DQ. Nice view of the Llano River from the back-side rooms, and easy access to US 10.

The bridge into town is still being repaired but traffic is permitted to cross, single file.

Have a good CheapSTOC.

It was great seeing everyone - wish I could have stayed another day. But, since I shifted my stay there one day earlier, I can say that riding around there on a Friday is a lot more fun that a Saturday (if you've only got one day). I may try to do that next time I get out that way.

Just to let everyone know that I am home safe and sound. Left at 7:00 and rolled into my garage at 11:30. 288 miles in 4.5 hours. Ran most of the open road at about 85 to 90. Hit a couple of triple digits a time or two. Had a real nice tail wind and the bike ran smooth as glass. Top speed for this trip was 111 mph. Had a great time and will be looking forward to seeing every one at WESTOC next month.

The loud shirt winner was an FJR rider from Conroe who also sported some flashy shoes. Granted he didn't have much competition this year. Fred's shirt looked a little reserved to be called loud and Mollie tried to win dressed as a duck hunter. I forgot to bring mine.....it's an old age thing....you'll understand someday Michael. Of course, Dave wore the same shirt he's worn for the past two years and that's going nowhere. LOL!!

PS..On the way home I stopped at a bakery to pick up a roll. As I was leaving a lady said,"It is nice to see a gentleman your age still enjoying riding." OUCH!!

CheapSToc was a great weekend as always. Dave's low key approach makes for a fun but relaxing weekend for Linda and I.

We left about 8:30 Friday morning and routed through Hico for Linda to pick up some coffee at the store across the street from the Coffee Kup. Our next stop was in Llano at the DQ up the street from Coopers. Coopers was out as there were about 200 Harley's in the parking lot and we didn't want to be there all afternoon for lunch. We arrived in Junction at the Legends around 3:30pm.

it was around 2 as I wandered around on the way there,.
I got a room and its not bad the people are nice people.
someone was complaining about the lack of wireless on the end but it is not the hilton LOL
not bad rooms for 40 through,
ride safe all

True, it is not the Hilton, but when I checked their website they claimed that they had wireless internet connection. They also claimed to have wireless internet on the sign outside where they welcomed us to Cheapstoc.

When I made my reservation, they did not tell me that the room they were giving me did not have wireless in it. If they would have told me that my room did not have wireless when I made my reservation, I would have gladly paid more for a room that did have wireless or I would have stayed at a hotel that did have wireless. I have an aircard and since Junction is out in the middle of no where, that did not work either.

I needed wireless for my job, not for random surfing. I brought my laptop because I had to do work over the weekend that required the use of the internet. Since the hotel claimed to have a wireless internet connection, I depended on them to be able to provide it. I got some of what I had to do sitting outside the office, where the internet connection was OK, but the lack of internet connection really put me in a bind and I was finishing up the work I had to do late on Sunday night.

When I asked on Saturday to be moved into a room that had wireless, the hotel said that I would have to pay for an additional room. Since I had already paid for a room with a wireless connection, I did not feel it was right to have to pay for another room just to get what had already been paid for.

It is not an honorable way to do business to advertise that your hotel has a service, in this case a wireless internet connection, and then take a reservation without mentioning that the room does not have that service.

I will be staying at the Day's End hotel up on the other side of I-10, if I stay in Junction again.

I dont think I will stay there for anything other than cheapstoc either I just dont expect much from small town hotels and there for are not disapointed.
I spoke with them about getting a booster as their wireless was weak even in the office.
I also was sitting out by the office for a little bit to send emails.
I have found data service out that way I put my phone in airplane mode to save battery life for when I stop in a towns

I left Junction about 7:30 and had a easy ride to Uvalde then highway 90 back to the house. Stopped in Gonzales for some $3.25 a gallon gas and looked at the pirates on their harleys. Stopped in Eagle Lake for a large but mediocre BBQ sandwich.Rolled the ST into the garage unloaded stuff cleaned most of the bugs off and started getting it ready for the Nevada trip at the end of the month.
Thanks to all that showed up and made this a fun weekend for me.
