View Full Version : Ride-On Group Buy!!

For those of you that use Ride-On or want to try Ride-On, I worked out a group buy to get 10% off your order. I'd put up a thread a few weeks ago about splitting a case but this ends up being cheaper for folks. So, here's how it works:
Click on THIS LINK (https://www.ride-onshop.com/link.cgi?affiliateID=54) and then when you order and it asks for a promotional code type in ridingworkshop
So here's my little testimonial YMMV:
I really like the Ride-On, I've used it for coming on eight years now. I know it works on punctures, which saves all kinds of head-ache on a trip, because I've picked up nails and been able to keep on riding.
I first bought Ride-On because I was planning a big solo trip and was worried about flats. On that trip I picked up a nail. I did my tire check each morning and one morning I'd lost 2 pounds of air. I checked out the tire and found the nail, aired it back up and it kept pressure the rest of the trip (another 1000 miles) with only Ride-On - no patches or plugs. BTW, that was a tubed tire and it sealed the tube - that was pretty impressive and from then on I was convinced that it's good stuff.
I also think it improves tire balance, wear and mileage. The few times when I've put on new tires and not used it (because I didn't have any on hand and didn't get around to ordering it), I've found that the tires wear much less evenly and much more quickly. With the Ride-On, I get about 1/3 more wear out of a tire. That makes the extra $$ per change worth it right there. Plus, b/c Ride-On stays liquid, it works as a dynamic balancer for a smoother ride as well.
Finally, I've had no problems with Ride-On being in any way corrosive (unlike Slime - bad stuff, stay away) and it handles high speeds with no problems (trust me, I've pushed it). It's not even terribly messy when you pull off the tire and washes right out with a quick spray of the hose.
So, I like the stuff 'cause it works for me.

I've never used this in a m/c tire ...but in my mtn bike tires I use this stuff called Slime and it works to seal punctures and prevent flats out in the wilds...be it forest or in the desert...it works really good for me:D

DO NOT USE SLIME IN MOTORCYCLE TIRES!
Slime is yucky stuff. It was designed to be used in low speed bicycle tubes. It was NOT designed for high speed applications. It can also interact negatively with your rims and cause corrosion.
Ride-On is NOT Slime. It IS designed for use in high speed applications and will NOT corrode your rims.
Here's a link to a review of the product by Larry Grodsky in Rider Magazine.

I never advocated using slime in your m/c tires...only that I used it with good results on my mtn bike...no implication of using it on a m/c was intended...:) or inferred

A question for Raven: Is it possible to use ride on by deflating the tire and adding it without breaking the tire seal? In other words, can it be appliedwith a couple of pounds of air to hold the bead?

Yep, I usually put it in after the new tires are mounted and the wheels are back on the bike because I never seem to have ordered it in time to have it when I change tires. Just be sure the gas station (or wherever you get air) has the right type of chuck on their air hose - more and more have the double-headed truck chuck which doesn't work well on the ST especially the ones with the long wand. (Yes, I know, get the angled valve stems - just haven't done it yet.)

Drats.
I just ordered a couple of bottles Friday. I did not see this post. Anyway I think ride on works great. It seals and balances. The claims of better tire wear make sense when you read why.
I used to carry slime only as an option once I had a flat and I had tube tires. Never used it.
Thanks

Greetings from the North East
Just reading about this ride on sealant.
I have a new set of B21 on my St, this summer got a nail in the rear, with only 50 miles on it. Took the chance and had it repaired by a well known motorcycle mechanic.
No problems since, can this sealant be used with this repair? Will it help in not having a leak in the repaired area?
Also living in the North East the bike gets put away for 5 months. How will the sealant affect the tire?
Thanks Sir William
Thanks Raven, ordered my three cans today, however I will hold off until I get the next set of tires to use it.

According to their website, you can use Ride-On with a patch.
Don't know about the sitting for 5 months since my bike doesn't sit that long but I'd be amazed if it was in any way detrimental.

Raven,
Is the Ride-on product a mess to clean up between tire changes? If so how much of a mess is it? Is much product left on the wheel or is it all on the old tire being removed?
I posted this in the wrong discussion earlier.

It's very clean when you change tires. It's adhered in an even layer to the inside of the tire and has kind of an elastic feel to it.

I have a set of tires loaded with Ride -On with about 3000 -4000 miles left on them, not enough for my next trip. I plan on taking them off and put them back on for local riding after the trip.
Ride-On advised that their product will stay in the tire, as long as the tire is stored vertically. Product life is quasy unlimited, which means the tire can then be then re-mounted with the original load of Ride-On. Couldn't ask for more!

How will Ride -On affect your tires?
There is no chemical interaction.
What you might notice, is that your tires will actually hold pressure for a longer time.
What I've noticed after a few weeks of the bike sitting, is that the product slowly flows down to the bottom of the tire and you will need a few miles to spread it around again. You might feel a slight inbalance for the first few miles.

Pretty good deal.I put in the "ridersworkshop"code and got 6 bottles for $87 including shipping.Great stuff.Seems I've never had a flat near any place.Always at least 40 miles out of civilization.I carry compressor and plugs but with this stuff I can plug it at my leisure.Just gotta check tires once in a while to see if I picked up a nail, otherwise I'd never know it....:D

A followup note; I changed out the rear tire on the DL1000 the other day. Just lined up the dot on the tire at the valve. Took all the wheel weights off the wheel, dumped in the bottle of Ride-on.
Found out it goes in easier if you set it out in the sun to warm up awhile.
Went out for a ride, no vibration detected from the rear wheel, seems smooth as it could be. I'll reserve judgment until I get enough miles on the tire to see if there seems to be any imbalance wear, but for now it seems to be fine.
I saved $15 by not having the shop balance the tire (they charge $15 ea for mounting and $15 for balancing) which is about what the ride-on cost.
If it does what it advertises, I'm sold on it.

Raven,
Thanks for arranging this. I just ordered the MC Kit for myself and also set up as an affiliate because I want to resell this at our shop. Looking forward to getting new tires installed with the Ride-On to see if it helps with the notorious 1100 head shake.
Will update later.

So, when you use this stuff you don't need to balance your tires - pull the weights off, ride it for a few miles and it's done?

Joe, I don't know about that as mine were balanced already and the addition of Ride-On did not upset the balance. As a matter of fact I want to say that they are smoother.

Well add me to the list. I just ordered 3 cans and will use them on my Avons......on back order until the 25th. I hope that the Dealer will put it in for me, but nice to hear that it can be added later as well.
I liked this product right away after reading about it. I use my 95 ST1100 as a commuter about 75-80 miles a day plus I have to use it at work sometimes as well. Many things at a shipping port that can do bad things to tires!
Raven, thank for taking the time to do this.

I've used this stuff on my previous bike with tubed tires. Ran it in two sets of tires. Never picked up a nail so no opinion on the effectiveness of Ride-On.
One caution note, though: When you go for a new set of tubed tires, the dealer doesn't always replace the tubes, especially if they contain Ride-On. My instructions were to replace the tires and the tubes. When I got my bike back, the dealer told me he had trouble balancing my wheels after the new tries were installed. That was a clue to me that the tubes were not replaced and still contained Ride-On.
Did I heed this warning? Nooo. :( I added more Ride-On so now my tires have a double-dose. It didn't cause any problems but I could have saved the $40. :o:
Anyhow, I just placed an order for Ride-On for my ST1300. Like others have said, it is cheap insurance. I imagine that the issue I had with tubes on my previous bike won't be with the ST1300. When I go for a set of new tires, by defualt the old Ride-On will be removed. And thanks to Raven, I saved about $4.

regarding tire sealant. i just read what raven said about slime being corrosive and gasped because i have a bottle on my desk ready to go in my tires. i called slime, they say there is a difference between the inner tube sealant and the tubeless tire sealant. apparently the tube sealant corrodes, the tire sealant dozn't , according to them. i'm not trying to rain on anyones' group buy, just want to avoid any global-warming type hysteria. - ooxx stuude

I've had friends who've used the Slime tubeless formula and had problems with corrosion as well as developing a wicked vibration. Even if Slime has got that corrosion issue worked, I'd still be worried about using it in high-speed applications and their website even states:
http://www.slime.com/images/slime_p_detail_43.gif
http://www.slime.com/category_3_Tire_Sealant.html
Unlike Slime, Ride-On was designed for high speed applications and can be used as a flat preventative with no worries.

:bow1:thanks raven , for posting the small print warning label from the back- bottom of the ''slime'' bottle. i stand corrected, and won't be ''slimed '' again. ride-on says 8oz for average motorcycle tire ,st1100 - 8oz rear / 5oz front. they show 16oz bottles in a case of 4 . do we have to buy 2- 8oz bottles ? i'll call ride-on mon. morning. thanks again stuude:bow1:

I took Raven's advice and bought Ride-On for my 08 ST1300. Installation was a piece of cake! Took about 20 minutes total, then went for a 30 minute ride to make sure the distribution was complete and the balance was not affected at all!! Now I'm going to treat my '71 Triumph Bonneville's Avons. Great stuff! Thanks Raven

As far as dosage goes, I typically run one bottle in the front and a bottle and a half in the back so used to buy 3 bottles (one motorcycle kit) until I started just buying the case.
