This is kind of dorky, but works well so I wanted to share. When working in the shop, lighting is always an issue. I have a portable light, but it never stays where I want it. Well during an extended power outage a few weeks ago, we hit the camping gear for lanterns n such. We also ran across those LED lights on a head band. You can angle them to where you need the light, plus it has like three different light intensity settings. These really saved the day when trying to do something in a dark house. Then I figured why not use the LED head light in the shop instead of fighting that darned shop light.

Kids really had a good laugh, but it worked great. I wired up an aux fuse block for a friend and was in all kinds of positions. Never once did I wish for more light. After a while, you forget you have it on. Then walk into the house and the kids start making fun all over again. It's worth the ribbing.

Dorky or not, I NEVER do any work around the house (wiring, building a computer, installing stereo equipment, oil changes, etc.) without my headlight. For the money, you just can't beat it and it is ALWAYS pointed where you want it. PLUS, your head never gets in the way of the light. Couldn't live without one.

They ARE great. You're not weird -- you're ahead of the curve!

My beautiful and brilliant wife, Diane, have an agreement; the garage, the basement, and my office are mine, and the rest of the house is hers. There's no, "What do you think of this colour/sofa/curtains?"

"I don't care, dear."

"Gotcha!"

She teases me about my garage (my world, my haven, my universe). Being in my late youth -- I'm fifty-one -- my vision isn't what it once was. So I have twenty-four florescent lamps in there. Diane claims she could get a suntan, and I'm not sure that she couldn't.

Light isn't useful unless it is where you needed it!

You obviously found a good solution, kudos to you!

I have 4 or 5 different head lights around the house that I use quite frequently. Some are all LED. Some are LED plus a Xenon bulb. I always carry one in my saddlebag. If I ever have to repair a flat at night, these lights are just the ticket.

Function over fashion any day.

I think it was Mellow who put me on to them a while back in one of the camping threads. I went out and bought one and on the way home I discovered I had lost my signal lights. I'm telling you that it was just the ticket for digging around under the dash of an old Chevy truck!:)

Prolly ought'a use these instea of incadescent 110V lights when I'm home alone. Why not? Deba's in Jamaica and the only lights in the house right now are the TV and the 'puter.

Headlights work great inside a tent, too...lots easier when you have both hands free to organize.

Also handy when grilling after dark.

I just bought one at Costco that has a dimmer. It also goes from white to red. When trying to look into a dark area to work on something, they're invaluable.

+1 on the Costco one. I bought one of those a couple weeks ago too. It's extra-powerful, has 5 white LED's and one red one, a dimmer and runs on 3 AAA batteries. Puts out waaaayyyy more light than the other one I paid 3 times as much for a few years ago. Also has a handy neoprene belt case. A real bargain at under $20.
